Last night I had the pleasure of hanging out with some great people and witnessing an incredibly dynamic set of bands at the Middle East Upstairs. Each band set a different mood, showed different sets of musicianship, and rounded out this show line-up quite nicely. Without further ado, let's get to the bands: Opening the show was Borrowe d E y es & the Blood Red Road with a single guitar strumming and a four part vocal harmony. Already quite impressed, [...]

Well. That sucked. Yesterday went about as I feared / expected and our beloved wilderness explorer, urban trail guide and pack leader Shenoa lost her battle with Time, just a few months removed from her 13th birthday. Of course, as her guardians it fell to us to give time itself a nudge, to head to the vet's and make that most incomprehensible request of asking someone to end a dear friend's life. And of course, it's not like that, not really. This most difficult of decisions is The Right Thing. This is What's Done. This is [...]

Mogwai etc., All Tomorrow's Parties, Camber Sands, April 2000 Alphabetical post-rock nostalgia your way comes: Arab Strap typical festival band, rolled out all the hits; sales of The Weekend Never Starts Round Here saw a spike the following week. Bardo Pond failed to live up to a rather high billing as stoner post-rock legends, were but reasonably spooky [...]

I know these are the pics you've been waiting for, so instead of going from early in the day to late, I'm starting with the most important ones first. Oh, and BTW, the eyes in the 2nd photo are not doctored. At all. Danzig Gorilla Biscuits Mission of Burma [...]
Brooklyn indie super group Midnight Masses have delayed the release of their debut EP. Rapture Ready, I Gazed At the Body will now be available digitally on December 8th. The band has a great pedigree, with contributions from members of ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, TV On The Radio, and more. Toss in a cover of Sonic Youth's "Do You Believe In Rapture?" and you're cookin' with

Sup, yawl. So maybe you were at Fun Fun Fun Fest this weekend, that is rad, good work. I spent the weekend with Dark Meat. It was sweet. They had a FFF aftershow at Mohawk (a $15 ticket for them, Trail of Dead and An Albatross) on Sunday that hardly anyone was at, most likely due to the fact that it was wet and nasty as fuck, and I'm assuming people had had their fill after being at FFF all day. I really wish I could have seen Broadcast, and am a bit grumbley that [...]

We couldn't be more excited to know that we will be able to spend the weekend soaking up the sights and sounds of Fun Fun Fun Fest at Waterloo Park. Tickets are still available, the weather is going to be perfect, and this might be the best lineup in the festival's brief history. We will have more coverage after the smoke clears, but for now here are our band picks for each day, along with info on a few after parties. The full festival schedule is here . Mr Curiosity picks: Saturday: [...]

Conrad Keely from ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead isn't the first artist to display his visual work in a gallery, we reported that Ryan Adams had a show recently, and we've seen a few displays from the likes of Rob Corradetti of Mixel Pixel and many others. However, Keely's artwork will be displayed at the opening of the new PerkStreet Lounge in Brooklyn this Friday, November 6 (that's tomorrow, folks). PerkStreet Lounge is located at 303 Grand Street (between Havermeyer & Roebling) in the Williamsburg neighborhood, so pop onto that L [...]

Zechs Marquise's late summer album, Our Delicate Stranded Nightmare, veers off onto trails of soundscape, abrupt and extended acidic noodles, creep, and other digestible sonic bleed. Think of a jammier, stoned and spaced out Mars Volta for starters. Zechs Marquise features Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez and bassist Marfred Rodriguez-Lopez, both siblings to legendary guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. With that in mind, Zechs Marquise and Free Moral Agents will kick off their tour on November 7th in El Paso, Texas. Free Moral Agents is a collective founded by The Mars Volta's keyboardist Isaiah "Ikey" Owens. music: [...]

Do you remember a time when the term "Emo" wasn't a four-letter word? The term was associated with bands that made artistically aware punk rock with emotional underpinnings. That was before the term was stretched to include a wide range of not-quite-punk, not-quite-pop bands like Jimmy Eat World and My Chemical Romance. Bands like Jawbox and ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead who

Just in time for Halloween, I discovered my own grave today. Apparently I died in November 1918, age 31, and am buried in some little town in Pennsylvania. Sluggo and I are planning a road trip to go visit Dead Me very soon. If you'd like to find Dead You, then I recommend searching your own name at FindAGrave.com , one of my favorite websites. (My thanks to Find a Grave Member Beth for locating Dead Me, and to Patty Matthews for the photo of Nanticoke Cemetery.) [...]
