Guess this is the sort of stuff you will find under the tree this Christmas - if you have been bad. I'd rather have a gift card, you know? Anyway - here are some new efforts from Big Superstars who are still trying to get your hard-earned money this holiday season, although you need it way more than they do. Norah Jones has sold a zillion albums but she has really put out only four, and The Fall is certainly her liveliest album to date. She's kinda wanting to [...]
The little-documentary-that-could The Story Of Anvil , about the band that was like a "real life Spinal Tap" right down to having a drummer named Robb Reiner, stole everyone's heart this past year. Except for people whose hearts are made of stone. Or metal. Well if your heart was made of \m/ metal then it probably stole your heart, too. But if your heart is made of Oscar-material precious metal, then it didn't steal your heart, it made your heart snub it from its rightful place on the 15-film Best Documentary Academy Award shortlist (via [...]

HEADS UP U2 @ Angel Stadium Mon 6/7/2010 Good luck. Let us know if you make it into the GA inner circle on the field. Photo by Lindsey from the October 25, 2009 Rose Bowl show .
Not since an early teenage flirtation with Dungeons & Dragons has State ever really embraced the role playing genre with anything even approaching gusto, so it's a testament to just how good Dragon Age: Origins is that we've lost sleep, been late for work and even spent time on a bus worrying about which Dwarven faction for the vacant King-ship we should align ourselves with. You play as one of the last Grey Wardens, a legendary line of dark warriors who have traditionally protected the kingdom of Ferelden from the darkspawn, a race of [...]

Switchfoot Hello Hurricane Atlantic Records [2009] Fire Drill Review: On Hello Hurricane , Switchfoot sound completely comfortable and well settled into their own rock sound, which actually combines U2 like anthems and Coldplay type rock structures to truly create one of their most unique and non-formula following records to date. This is driven by straight ahead rockers that have teeth and catchy soaring choruses that are memorable. Hello Hurricane represents the [...]
"The E.N.D." dei Black Eyed [...]

Hey! I've had a lot of more "laid-back" tracks up on this mothafuckah now for a while, I've been a bit sick of the monotone bangers and the same sounds over and over again. I'm sure that many of you have heard of South Central before, their the British experimental electro act that steamrolls every godamn remix they get a hold of. They've managed to tour as a Dj-set at all the major French festivals this year and are now ready to tour with The Prodigy as a live-act.This horror-fest will be a sight [...]
I was thinking of a few of my NYC pals Kevin & Cindy, who spearhead an '80s cover band called The Fades that played a gig at LES' Fontanas on Thursday. It got me to remembering mainstream 80s music, much of which I have not listened to in a while (exception Billy Idol - never out of style on my record player). In the mid 80s, I was mostly listening to American indie/alt/college rock (REM, dBs, Replacements, Husker Du, Soul Asylum, Talking Heads) or British wave (Bauhaus, New Order, Cure, Smiths, U2, Echo & the [...]
So I'm trying something different right now. I'm going to link to 10 blogposts that I think are particularly good. I'm going to ask you, my readers, to thumb-up or digg or whatever both this post and some of the ones I linked to, if you like them. Then, I'm going to ask the owners of those blogs that I link to to make their own posts, linking to me and to some posts that they like . Then ask their readers/bloggers to do the same. None of those bloggers know I [...]
Since Carl just posted his yearly electronica report, I figured I best chime-in with my techno-suggestion for the year decade-so-far, as my exposure to this genre of music is also rather limited. Case in point: this album was released in 2002. I first heard Alpinestars ' "Carbon Kid" back when Comedy Central aired episodes of the awesome prank show, Trigger Happy TV . The song was used during a skit where people in gorilla costumes raid a grocery store, stealing all the bananas. The song features guest-vocalist Brian Molko of [...]

Tickets go on sale from tomorrow, Friday 20th November, priced €16.50 inclusive of booking fee from all the usual places. State spoke with the band just [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive , Television In more than a quarter of a century of rocking, Jon Bon Jovi has seen all of the music industry's well-publicized changes. So what does he see to be among the biggest differences? "It's very hard. Radio is fragmented," he tells Spinner. "There was Top 40 radio and DJs could be influential and you could make a career out of Philadelphia or Cleveland and you built to Chicago and all points west and north. That doesn't necessarily exist." So are [...]
A growing list of bands unpopular with critics, but genre-defining nevertheless, is impatiently awaiting their admittance into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. As the years progress, the process of getting into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is beginning to look a lot like the process of earning a letter for a high school letter jacket: The superstars (Bruce Springsteen, Prince, Aerosmith) are awarded just for showing up, as are the academic overachievers who are still social enough to get a seat on student council (U2, The Police, Talking Heads). However, the nerds who create the science...

Filed under: News Rock 'n' roll and spirited libations have always gone hand in hand. A new enterprise, Wines That Rock , wants to take things to a new level by creating quality wines named after legendary rock albums. Even better, the company -- created by business and fan club managers of bands like the Rolling Stones , David Bowie , Sting and U2 -- will place original album art on the wine labels. The first three products will be [...]
A live version of 'Cousins', followed then by the recorded version have both been doing the rounds in the blogosphere over the past couple of weeks. Now Vampire Weekend have released the video to accompany the track. The video is a mixture of U2's 'The Sweetest Things' with Bob Dylan's 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' and is two and a half minutes of VW goofing around. The tracks itself is much more upbeat than the previously featured 'Horchata' and I feel is some of Vampire Weekend's best work to date. It's catchy, [...]
U2's 1984 classic gets expanded on its 25th anniversary.
I was given the green-light by Ezra Caraeff to write a little something about Tuesday night's KISS show at the Rose Garden... after, he said, I was done wiping off my Peter Criss makeup. I was a bit miffed by the remark... because I was wearing Gene Simmons makeup... which is not nearly as gay. The Rose Garden was filled up-say to a Blazers vs. Mavericks-like capacity-all there to see Gene, Paul, some dude in Peter Criss makeup (gay) and the guy who used to fetch Gene's coffee wearing Ace Frehley's space-suit and makeup. That guy who [...]
