Came across this on twitter today: http://one-track-mind.com/brim -liski-fight/ One Track Mind writes of Brim Liski "...the band themselves are referring to [their sound] as "dance doom," with other suitable orienting points including the gothic guilded electronics of Depeche Mode and Massive Attack or the open skies navigated by Bel Canto and This Mortal Coil". How appealing is that? Thanks, One Track Mind for this excellent find! "Fans of artists such as Ulrich Schnauss or Syntaks will feel at home with the soaring, blissed out textures of Brim Liski".
Ulrich Schnauss ushers me, with slight hesitance, into his East London studio. He fidgets and fusses over inanimate objects that do not need attention. For a figure whose music drips with solitude and melancholy, this is a rare moment of exposure, and he seems uncomfortable, unnerved by the stranger who has entered his lair. He sits surrounded by a cavern of instruments and electronic gadgets, machines that enabled him to create the richly textured melodies and harmonies that brought about the comparisons to Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream in the music press. [ download ] Brim Liski , whose eponymous debut EP was released last week on Latenight Weeknight Records , is a little brief when it comes to biographical information. From their shadowy press photos to their record label's vague history, the duo seems to be cultivating a bit of mystery in regards to their origins. However, given their association with Latenight Weeknight, the Colorado hometown on their Myspace page , and their shoegaze-meets-electronica sound, it's safe to say the band has some connections to Denver neo-shoegazers [...]

On November 2nd 2009, 'Moved By Opposing Forces' will have its first world-wide release on Rocket Girl . Fans of Project Skyward include DJ Sasha, Robin Guthrie from the Cocteau Twins, and leftfield electronic genius Ulrich Schnauss Project Skyward is primarily the vision of singer/ songwriter/ programmer Ryan Field , aka Skyward. After obtaining a degree in holistic science and astronomy, Ryan sought to express ideas about the universe and their relation to human experience through music. Joined [...]

The swirling, electro-gaze of Death in Plains ( Enrico Boccioletti) has itself another believer."Yeah Go" is the kind of gauzy, medicated sound I wish Animal Collective would incorporate into their music. It's hypnotic, but there's also a definite pop structure that's easy to embrace as synths bubble up and melt in your ears. The treated vocals and blasts of digital drums during the chorus are a great addition -- kind of like fireworks going off in your headphones. [...]

One Sunday afternoon late this past summer, my wife, Sara and I were driving down a lightly-populated country road that on one side was separated from the Long Island Sound by a thin barrier of marsh grass and bordered on the other by modest summer homes. As we rounded a curve, we passed two young women walking against the traffic, both holding small, terrier-like dogs. Glimpsed quickly as our car passed, the women, wearing high heels, short dresses and full make up, seemd oddly out of place. "Trashy girls and their trashy dogs," my wife said, and then we were [...]
So a little over a month ago I accepted an invitation to be a part of a blog tour that would list their favorite albums from this decade. I figured why not and take a break to re-listen to some of my favorites over the past ten years. There have already been a couple lists posted as part of this project. Yesterdays featured the top 10 albums from The Album Project and tomorrows list will be provided by Can You See the Sunset? . For anyone wishing to see any of the previous [...]

According to Ticketmaster , Guns are playing 11 dates in Canada this winter (with an earlier December show in SF). Maybe Axl was inspired by the Ulrich Schnauss lawsuit. Because it suggests someone actually listened to Chinese Democracy .
Things are looking hot on the Guns N' Roses camp lately. Between dates in India and Japan laid out and legal mumbo jumbo brought on by Ulrich Schnauss , it's certainly an exciting time to be a GnR fan. Now, there's more! According to Ticketmaster , come the beginning of the new year, Axl & Co. will be hosting a string of dates all across Canada. Starting January 13th in Winnipeg, MB, the band will crack into the rugged, cold Canadian territory, and will stay there until early February. Fans [...]

On the heels of my post about having nightmares , I've decided to follow some good advice a wise friend once gave me and practice "extreme self-care." When you're under a ton of stress and going through difficult times, it's a really good thing to do. For me, it entails making sure I exercise, go to bed at a decent hour, drink plenty of water and breathe. Breathing is very important, did you know that? One of my bad tendencies when I'm stressed is to hold my breath. [...]

Albuquerque, New Mexico's Pollination is Nick Noeding, Jr., a man with a gift for melting layered electronics, sound collages and psychedelic noise into imagery. This Yppah remix of "Some Sun" is taken from his killer 8-song debut EP, Inca Orange . Fans of Caribou and Ulrich Schnauss should find it easy to soak this up. |||Pollination: "Some Sun (Yppah remix)" MP3||| Purchase Inca Orange [...]

Chinese Democracy , Guns 'N Roses ' long (long, long) awaited 2008 studio album, came and went with little fanfare. Chock full of metal sludge, post-industrial mayhem, and massive amounts of hype, the album didn't do as well as the labels expected, and certainly undershot even W. Axl Rose 's expectations. It was supposed to change our lives, and instead, all we're left with is a half-baked record and the sour taste of (free) Dr. Pepper in our mouths. That said, a year after its release, Chinese Democracy is still being discussed. This time, however, everyone's [...]

Come on, dudes. Guns n' Roses have responded to the copy infringement claims made by both Independiente and Domino records that snippets of Chinese Democracy were lifted from work by German electronic artist Ulrich Schnauss. The two labels filed suit for one million dollars in damages, a claim to which Guns n' Roses' manager Irving Azoff responded so: The band believed when the record came out and still believes that there are no unauthorized samples on the track. The snippets of 'ambient noise' in question were provided by a member of the album's production team who [...]

Guns N' Roses are going to "vigorously contest" claims that they ripped off German electro-composer Ulrich Schnauss for the ambient intro to their song "Riad N' The Bedouins," a dispute that's currently the source of a million-dollar lawsuit filed last week. (A million dollars may seem like a lot of cash for an album that had such a soft landing on the retail scene, but then again, the album's production costs were probably way higher than that .) GNR manager Irving Azoff released a denial that's both vehement and somewhat masterful: [...]
Axl Rose's manager, Irving Azoff, has released an official statement regarding his client's alleged rip-off of ambient passages from Ulrich Schnauss, and unsurprisingly, he's claiming there's been no foul here: "The band believed when the record came out and still believes that there are no unauthorized samples on the track. The snippets of 'ambient noise' in question were provided by a member of the album's production team who has assured us that these few seconds of sound were obtained legitimately. Artists these days can't read the minds of those they collaborate with and therefore [...]
