C. D. Harvill trendi10.com This past week I had the opportunity to meet with someone who is, arguably, one of the best guitarists to come out of the Gulf Coast. Many along the Florida-Alabama shore may have heard of Guthrie Trapp. From a young age, Guthrie, was intrigued with music. He grew up listening not to the radio, but his family's collection of bluegrass, folk, and rock and roll records. While hanging around his uncle, who was a self-taught musician, he started playing [...]

Uncle Earl is foot tapping music, no doubt about it. This song comes from Waterloo, Tennessee, their 2007 release. MP3 File yousendit

Have being enjoying the latest offering from the mighty Drive-by Truckers " T he Fine Print " , a collection of rarities, covers and alternate versions that will be the band's final release on New West, it doesn't sound like it should - it somehow manages to remain a pretty cohesive record despite the disparate origin of it parts, the highlights for me, a stellar version of Uncle Frank , the brilliant "George Jones Takin' Cell Phone Blues" and "TVA". Some of the tracks got me going on a little DBT nostalgia trip, [...]

For live/touring bands, New Year's Eve is a key night of the year to really bring out the big guns and party down with hardcore fans. As such, we tend to see lots of bands playing bigger shows to hometown crowds, often mixing in some fun/silly covers and party-time antics, or generally getting a bit crazy for the NYE celebrations. For fans, it's a great time to catch your favorite band and let it all out in one big end-of-the-year catharsis. We've started to see a number of bands announce plans for their New Year's Eve celebrations [...]
This just seemed bright and lively, just the song for a Monday morning. It is the title song from their 2005 release. MP3 File yousendit

Though I consider myself a folk blogger first and foremost, as our masthead notes, coversong has its own appeal, both as kitsch and culture. And I make no apologies for the focus, nor do I regret the readership it brings. After all, even if just a few of you get hooked on a new song or artist each week, we all win in the process. Of course, it's worth noting that, as a coverblogger, I'm somewhat of an anomaly. The community of coverbloggers is a small one, and it tends [...]

Give the Drummer Some's 10 Favorite Downloads from the MP3 Blogosphere (see Comments, below, for helpful info about downloading) Twenty-one years after having his prophetic auditory hallucination of William Blake reading "Ah! Sunflower" and "The Sick Rose" in his East Harlem flat, Allen Ginsberg recorded his own version of Blake's "songs" set to a dreamy score (with loving contributions from Peter Orlovsky, Don Cherry, Bob Dorough, Jon Sholle and others). Today being Ginsberg's 83rd birthday, Mining the Audio Motherlode is celebrating by linking to a download of this 1969 album [...]
O.C. Weekly profiles Black Moth Super Rainbow . Black Moth Super Rainbow's bucolic lo-fi electric meditations evoke visions of a hippie tribe on their own Spahn Ranch, like fellow cult rockers Indian Jewelry, only trading in their fuzzy guitars for fuzzier synthesizers, Ween pushing up a little Kraftwerk with their little daisies, the Polyphonic Spree in all their robed, harmonic glory taking the brown acid and turning into Butthole Surfers, circa Another Man's Sac—that is to say, before the tuba. [...]
I'm checking in from my birthplace of Escanaba, MI. It's a tiny little town in the Upper portion of the state where the majority of my family still lives. I'll be staying here (at my Uncle's) the next two nights before traveling to the city where my parent's live on Friday. I hope this finds all of you well. When our friends at Sub Pop allow us to share a new track from any of their releases, I usually jump at the opportunity when it presents itself. The label is allowing us to share the second song from [...]

Cover Me puts together a list of Police covers, but there are only two that I could stand: John Butler Trio - Message in a Bottle Mika vs. Armand Van Helden - Can't Stand Losing You Uncle Earl - Canary in a Coalmine Limbeck - So Lonely David Lamotte - Walking In Your Footsteps Rabbit Junk - Walking On the Moon Artgeko - The Bed's Too [...]
When The Police reunited in 2007, I was thrilled. I'd loved their two-disc live set ever since "borrowing it" from a friend in high school. To that I'd added their Greatest Hits , and that was basically all I needed. Though ticket prices were outrageous for that reunion tour, I managed to catch 'em at Bonnaroo ( read my review ) and loved every minute of it. Only having the greatest hits and the live set, I knew all the songs but two. They did leave out a couple classics – where [...]

Astronautalis is an expectation-challenging force in the world of rap music. Last year, his album Pomegranate blew listener's minds with an intense and eclectic concoction of savage beats, sentimental melodies, and unique brand of lyrical storytelling that merges historical fiction and hip hop. Certainly not something you hear on an average day. Since the album's release, Astronautalis has been a busy man; embarking on his first European Tour, becoming an Internet mini-sensation with his side project, Boyfriends Inc. [...]
