Best Coast's Bobb Bruno & Bethany Cosentino Hello everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Far too many exceptional shows last week including last night's NO CANCER! As the Music Like Dirt top tracks of the year list returns for a fifth edition, it once again falls short of being the most comprehensive, the most knowledgeable or the most bleedin' edge. It is however consistently the latest and for that I apologise and hold out the hope that as the light fades on January there are still a few hardy souls out there who wish to pick over the embers of 2009. It was compiled from a shortlist of around a 1000 tracks, through a process of demented indecision until I gave up whittling at [...]

NFL Championship WEEKEND! I don't have a horse in this race, but going to New Orleans a couple of months ago has kind of made me like the Saints. The passion behind their fans is burning one. Their team has never been to the "BIG SHOW". On the AFC side, I like the J-E-T-S. Any spawn of Buddy Ryan is OK in my book. Especially the evil spawn named Rex. Toro Y Moi: "Timed Pleasure (Body Language Remix) " (via P4K ) The Antlers - Two [...]

You guys have waited pretty patiently for me to get off my lazy ass and get my best of 2009 lists out to you. I mean it's already 15 days into 2010, I need to get with it! So like I said in my #100-51 list , I didn't include singles that were released in 2009 that have 2010 album release dates (such as Vampire Weekend's Cousins) since I consider them 2010 releases! I did include artists like Local Natives however since I obsessed over them this year and their album did come out in the UK! [...]

I'd love to be able to say I did this list in one shot, fired from the hip, and came out fearlessly and decisively with my rock solid Top 20 Albums list ready for prime time. The truth is, unfortunately filled with scribbles, crumpled paper balls, wishing I had 25 slots, and a few question marks that will inevitably be answered in a year or two from now when I look back on this list and laugh at myself. I must admit my 2008 list held up pretty well for me over time. Even my 2007 [...]
From the inbox: Excuse the grainy, shaky video above. Hey, like a veteran fry cook with splatter burn freckles all over her forearms, it's just my job to get the info out there in short order and it ain't always pretty. And this is the video of the song (Isabel) I like most by BigBang , one of Norway's most popular bands. Their album Edendale will get its official stateside release this coming Tuesday, January the 19th. BigBang have a beautiful, melodramatic, expansive/stadium sound that's rich with a non-ironic passion that [...]
It's 2010; it's officially the future. As a child, John Lithgow promised that this was "The Year We Make Contact", and, while that was a little ambitious, I was at least hoping for flying cars or a robot harem who would peel my grapes and fan me with palm fronds. Instead, we've got smart phones we can watch "The Jersey Shore" on. I'd rather not think about the ramifications. Beyond wishing you a happy year of the tiger, we're chiming in with news, news about a pair of shows and a compilation CDs that's for a good cause [...]

There had been way too many remarkable songs to fit into a top 10, heck, even a top 25 list for me. So here, I'm giving you a peek into the colossal (to exaggerate it a bit) number of songs that shook, ripped and sewn together my year. 2009 bore witness to the influx of exquisitely created music from an expansive and diverse pool of genres. Indie, rap/ hiphop power reigned supreme in the charts and year-end lists. These songs may not be what you'll rank as your best 100, but I guarantee you, these are DEFINITELY worth having in [...]

Now that 2009 has drawn to a close and we're getting into full swing on 2010 Josh and I wanted to put together a list of our favorite tracks from the past year. Here is mine, loosely ordered, with some comments about each track. I won't call this a "best of" list because frankly I don't consider myself almighty enough to rank what songs were the "best" from the year...but these are the tracks that resonated with me the most. (A quick sidenote. We're only linking to 6 of the songs here, and ones that we know are [...]

I found an old iPod while I was at home over the holidays. My favorite playlist was entitled "Blogs," which contained tracks from blogs that I was following at the time: My Old Kentucky Blog, Aquarium Drunkard, I Am Fuel, You Are Friends, Some Velvet Blog, Gorilla Vs. Bear, The Late Greats and Berkeley Place. Good stuff. West Indian Girl - To Die In LA The Black Angels - Black Grease The Ponys - Fall Inn Alela Diane - Pieces Of [...]

( I made this and I approve of the lens flare ) I never really understood why some blogs and music sites put their "best of" lists out before the year was actually over, that might help explain why our Best of 2009 post is coming a bit after the new year. That and waiting on Kid Color to get his list finished (jokin'). But seriously, this past year doesn't really need any kind of special recap, it was just a good year for music. From remixes to albums, there was much to celebrate in our community. I [...]

and here you have it: our favorite 100 songs of 2009. there's not too much more to say. we've blogged about all these songs before, compiled the lists last week, & it's just kind of nice and fancy to see them all in one place like this. follow the links to check out the original posts. cheers, happy new year, and here's to a fantastic 2010!! linus : Lovers' Carvings- Bibio Lisztomania- Phoenix [...]
Hello again friends. Just as last year last year I once again queried Denver's best, brightest and most prolific music writers for their take on the year. While I didn't get replies from everyone, the ones I did were funny, interesting, enlightening and seasoned with all the delicious flavors that each bring to the table. It's long, but great. If you are not familiar with these folks -- shame on you. Links all around so become their friends, you'll be a better person this time next year. [...]
