Name Crush: Ho-Ag

Name Crush: Ho-Ag Once again, I'm on a quest to find out what's behind a band's name. I asked Matt Parish about the origins of the unusual band-name "Ho-Ag" and I got a history of the Space Program, which makes me love the name Ho-Ag all the much more. Matt of Ho-Ag : "The real reason we went with Ho-Ag is a bit of a tangled yarn and the beginning came unraveled a long time ago. The good thing about keeping it around still is that no [...]

The Angus Young We all remember the famed lead guitarist of AC/DC who always wore the black shorts and sports coat, Angus Young . Angus was new, fresh and weird. He danced across the stage [...]

Chad Vangaalen - Red Hot Drops
Friday, September 18, 2009 Today's Quick Mention: You could stay in this weekend, but then you'd miss out on seeing either The Bandulus at Flamingo Cantina tonight, the Daze at Beerland/What Made Milwaukee Famous at Antone's on Saturday and/or the one and only Motorhead at Red 7 on Sunday. You know what to do. Since the clear plan is for you to blow all of your hard earned cash on shows, beer and band t-shirts (in that order) this weekend, I figured I should [...]

Les Paul - R.I.P.

Les Paul - R.I.P. From the LA Times: By MICHAEL WALKER, Michael Walker is a free-lance writer based in New York. NEW YORK -- Les Paul is plowing through the last of his chicken supper at Fat Tuesday's, the tiny basement jazz club in Manhattan where he has performed two shows on Monday nights for the last eight years. It's 15 minutes or so before the start of the first set, and the tables ringing the stage are already filled. As usual, the 76-year-old guitarist and inventor, whose pioneering designs for [...]

Malajube – Labyrinthes Review

Malajube – Labyrinthes Review Malajube 's [ Myspace ] third full-length record, Labyrinthes , scatters pop hooks over prog tendencies, pulling off a trippy yet inoffensive album that delivers on nearly every track. Dismiss your xenoglossophobia, Labyrinthes is an incredibly enjoyable record, even if you don't know just what it is they're singing about. Malajube let the reigns out for the opener, "Ursuline". It is the album's thesis, a four movement mini-opera spanning the pop, rock, and dance elements that follow throughout the rest of the record. Acknowledging your body [...]

Austin Artist 2 Watch: Quiet Company

Austin Artist 2 Watch: Quiet Company Quiet Company is an Austin band led by native Taylor Glen Muse who has been in and out of countless bands over the last several years. After stints in an early form of Eisley and The Connotations, Mr. Muse moved on to record an album mostly on his own under the moniker Quiet Company . That first record, Shine Honesty , received a mostly positive response from critics which lead to new members and a brand new band. Fast forward to 2009 which sees Quiet Company dropping their sophomore effort Everyone You [...]

Weekender There has been so much controversy this week about whether or not we should care about the deaths of famous artists.
