Mailbox just exploded! When I was picking up the pieces and rummaging through the debris I found a few jems I'd like to share with you. [South Central] These producers caught my ear when they remixed a Wombats track way back when. Their mixes are composed of pure adrenaline, testing the output of your sweat glands with every hyper active dance killer they put out. Look for their debut LP. "The Owl of Minerva" in 2010. [Dada Life] By now you should know a little something about Dada Life. They are getting huge support form various [...]

What happens when the rhythm section of a band grows up together and meets with a couple of guys who also grew up together and comprise the melody section? You get a band like Spring Tigers. Add in a pretty talented vocalist (and guitarist and soapbox preacher) and big things are bound to happen. While no one knows for sure why front man Kris Barratt can't go back home ("I can't tell you why, but I'll be kneecapped!") its good for all of us that he was forced to make friends in the Athens, GA music scene. [...]

Yeasayer's debut album was one of my favorite surprises a couple years back, and it left me not only wanting more, but very curious as to where they would take their sound. In February, their sophomore disc Odd Blood will hit stores, but we're already getting the first taste in "Ambling Alp." It's a slice of bizarro pop that has had me hitting the repeat button, with a chorus both ridiculously simple and completely infectious. At the very least, it will help tide us over until next year, when we can hear the rest of [...]

You know that we at PMA love almost any grandiose, orchestral, too-fun-for-its-own-good pop song. Especially if that song has an "ooo" or an "ahh" in it somewhere. That said, it's pretty obvious that we love Fred's "Damn You Hollywood," a dynamic, epic track from a band that seems to have quietly garnered tons of attention and acclaim over the past year. Most of this praise has come from the band's homeland of Ireland, as the album Go God Go has been named best album of 2008 by multiple Irish publications. But with tracks like [...]

The origins of the Blakes are rooted somewhere in the backwoods of central Maine, where brothers Garnet & Snow Keim created a shared ambition to deviate from their seemingly inevitable fates as lifelong paper mill employees (or something of that nature), and try their hands at music. In the spring of 1999, the duo found themselves in Seattle, where they ended their epic search for a drummer in Bob Husak, who was toiling away as a barista. From there, the trio took off for the sunny skies of LA landing at the Days Inn in Glendale and recording [...]

So I've moved to East London, to Queen Mary University. It's good here, I finally feel like I'm not hanging around waiting anymore. And everyone likes good music! I've been to 3 gigs so far - money has stopped me from seeing more, most painfully Biffy Clyro with Manchester Orchestra and Frightened Rabbit, nice one money. Here's the run down of those I did catch. Monday 21st September THE VEILS w/ Swimming, So Say So - London Scala This was an exciting one. 2 days into living in London [...]
While you're probably recovering from various Halloween blowouts and thinking ahead to the holidays, things are just getting heated up in Dubai for SoundCity , the city's first winter music festival. De La Soul, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Futureheads, The Wombats, Super Furry Animals, Ladytron, We Have Band, Beat Antenna, 20 DJs and dozens more will take the stage at various venues across the "City of Gold" this weekend. There will also be CMJ-style panels focusing on topics like music publishing, international touring and the ever-popular debate on downloading, plus plenty [...]
It's Sunday and I really don't have much to post or any promotional stuff. Therefore, I'll post about this band as ever since downloading their EP I've absolutely loved them. The band is Two Door Cinema Club and the EP in question is Four Words to Stand On. It was released last year to a small audience. However having given it a listen it is a really promising start from a band I hope to hear a lot more about in the future. The EP opens with Cigarettes In The Theatre - a rhythm [...]

This post is going to be different than my others. I'm moving in a week, and every waking moment has been filled with either A) Moving, B) Talking about moving or C) Thinking about moving. I haven't been able to listen to any music this week, so I'm going to post videos instead. Next week we might not have internet yet, so there may not be a post next week. If I post anything, it may be more videos. **Also: the podcast show notes are in the post before this one** Thanks for your [...]
Label: 'Er Indoors Records Release date: 28/09/09 Website: MySpace Have you heard The View? Have you heard The Pigeon Detectives? Have you heard The Wombats? If the answer was yes to any of those questions, then you've heard Allegro, and there's really not much more to it. 'City Lights' is just too average. In the wake of all the Libertines' copyists, there lie hundreds of bands who never quite made it, trailing behind the bands including those mentioned above, all of which [...]
