To celebrate its seventh birthday, Paper Bag Records has combined two of our favorite things in music: covers and free stuff. The Seven Year Itch, as Stereogum reports, is a new compilation of cover songs performed by twelve of label's artists, and can be obtained right this very second for free. Just click here . Launched in 2002, Paper Bag Records has emerged as one of he premier indie labels, and for good reason. In its first year, the label released the critically acclaimed You Forgot It In People [...]
Toronto's very own Paper Bag Records are celebrating their 7th anniversary, and what better way to celebrate an anniversary (or anything really) than with a covers record. The Seven Year Itch sees great Paper Bag artists like Winter Gloves and Rock Plaza Central cover a scope of songs ranging from Beck to Bob Dyland to Eddy Grant. Download your FREE copy right here. Here's a look at some of

Two of the best shows MOKB Presents has ever hosted have involved Paper Bag Records bands. Woodhands , of course, brings the crowd and the party every time we bring them back to Indianapolis, but the most criminally underattended show we've ever hosted was for The Acorn . Of course all this was before Kanye West proclaimed their greatness on his blog . Paper Bag is now releasing a [...]

Review to come. Jen at Narratives has a review of the show. Spot The Groove reviews the show as well and has some photos. Photos: Junior Boys, Woodhands @ Lee's Palace in Toronto (November 6, 2009) MySpace: Woodhands MySpace: Junior Boys

Toronto An interesting, exciting double-billing of electro bands, Toronto's Woodhands and Junior Boys , originally from Hamilton, stopped in at Toronto's Lee's Palace Friday night. Woodhands' energetic, in-your-face electro-pop is a guaranteed party starter; Junior Boys are much more about sexy grooviness. To Woodhands, you jump and scream. Junior Boys call for more restrained behaviour (at least in public spaces). I arrived just shy of 10:30pm. A DJ was on stage amid smoke and the place was already buzzing. And then [...]

Seeing as how this is merely an average Monday morning in November, I'm guessing many of you weren't overly psyched to greet the day. Well, let us turn that around quick fast: with a simple email to us you could win yourself 6 beautiful vinyl albums from Paper Bag Records . Yes friend, you read that correctly, not 1, not 2, and not even 3, but 6 lovely vinyl albums. And I do mean lovely (and somewhat rare): All Paper Bag Records vinyl releases are produced in limited quantities on [...]

In January of 2009 five of Canada's top young songwriters locked themselves in the Chemical Sound recording studio in Toronto and vowed not to come out until they had written and recorded a five song EP. This Canadian super group has since given themselves the name NOVELS and features Tokyo Police Club's Graham Wright , Will Currie of Will Currie and The Country French, Luke Lalonde of Born Ruffians, Dean Marino of Tin Star Orphans / EX~PO and Jason Sadlowski . This NOVELS [...]

This past Wednesday I walked over to the Phoenix for the first time to see Say Anything preform. It was an all ages show and when I arrived one of the opening acts Moneen was just going onstage. Moneen was a band I remember hearing about in Middle School but never fell in love with. Moneen had tons of energy and put on a great performance considering I was unfamiliar with all of their songs. The craziest part of their show was when lead singer, Kenny Bridges jumped into the audience and continued to sing as [...]

Junior Boys Lee's Palace is the place to be next Friday night, at least for those who think the square wave is the sexiest sound out there. First you've got Toronto's Woodhands , who favour the extroverted, in-your-face approach, their mating dance consisting of flailing limbs, showers of sweat and thrusting keytars. And at the other side of the spectrum, the smooth electro-soul sounds of Hamilton's Junior Boys , the aural equivalent of the chilled champagne, the casual-but-deliberate brush against the arm and eyebrow arched just so. Two paths; one destination - "where [...]

Recommended Show: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2009 WIZARDRY @ UNION POOL 484 Union Ave Brooklyn, NY 11211 FREE, 9PM There are a whole bunch of parties tonight where the location is secret (thanks, VICE), but there are some shows that are just plain weird. For instance, Deer Tick will be performing as The Sex Pistols at Brooklyn Bowl. But there's one band for whom dressing up is an everyday occurrence. Halloween is simply another day for the band Wizardry , and that may just be the reason I recommend seeing them on a night like tonight. [...]

The same night, Memewar celebrates their 10th issue at the Railway with MT-40 , Wintermitts , and the Creaking Planks Boys Noize is at Celebs [...]
