There were great expectations about Lungs , the debut album by Florence & The Machine . Prior to its release, Florence Welch was being hailed as the next great female singer-songwriter - the person who had the artistic and critical credibility of Kate Bush , but who had the hooks and tunes to appeal to all ages, crucially the younger [...]

I was wondering how long it was going to be before we had an official piece of mail about our dear Mr. Vincent Turner (aka Vincent Frank, aka Frankmusik )... I was trying to avoid posting anything on my own because I recognize the preferential treatment he gets on this blog lol.. ...so I was thrilled to see this message from British musical institution Ninja Tune about an unreleased King Cannibal remix of Frankmusik's classic "3 Little Words"! I was surprised to see this [...]
Sigh. So some motherless goat of a woman decides to trick her infant child into believing he got an XBox 360 as a gift when really it's just clothes. But she doesn't stop there and goes overboard. Way overboard. One has to wonder, why does the kid look like a ghetto Super Saiyan ? If the kid looked in the mirror the day he got that do and didn't realize his mum hated him then, he surely knows now. And that is not a good thing because, although he's still young and easily [...]
![[upfree29] Candlestickmaker - A day in a life](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2110887_lg.jpg)
Upitup.com After his debut album "Seeds" was released here on Upitup back in 2007, our Romanian wunderkind Candelstickmaker is back with us with a new full length album up his sleeve, with the time-defying title "A Life in a Day" - and we're terribly amazed to unleash this shiny new selection of songs to the broadest audience. Featuring 12 brand new electronica tracks wisely crafted with a balanced mix of melodical goodness and enthusiastic bleeps and blips, this album proves us that our initial bet on this very young and very talented dude from [...]

THE GOOD NATURED We are often posturing about who the next big things are going to be. Is it wrong that just the other day someone was stating a new artist as " ...the next Little Boots ", when Victoria's debut album only came out in 2009! It's appreciated that blog's often catch onto these things many months before the wider commercial success comes, so we were aware of Little Boots a long time ago, but there is still this relentless hot pursuit. Will the men's 100 metres always [...]

Strange one Pedro. Sort of IDM folk/jazz but with a difficult edge. Is it called musique concrete? From his MySpace : James Rutledge is a young music producer who lives in London. In the past he has released music on Domino, Melodic, Moshi Moshi, Warp and Wichita and has worked with artists like Dangermouse, Four Tet, Kevin Shields, The Pastels and Prefuse 73. 2007/ 2008 sees the release of his new Pedro album "You, Me & Everyone" with brilliant US label Mush plus a load of remix and production work for bands like Bloc Party, Fever [...]

A few years ago, I was sent a record from an young two-piece from Guelph called Arrows . I liked Knives Are Falling From the Sky ( review ), but thought that they were struggling to find their sound as they sampled from the sounds we all the love ( Pixies, Nirvana and Hey Mercedes were three that I heard). Then they kind of disappeared. It's not unusual for a DIY act to lose steam so when I hadn't heard anything from them in a couple of years I assumed they packed [...]
WILD PALMS We predict that this band are going to split you lot down the middle. It's not that there's anything wrong or that we're not recommending without our usual thorough conviction, but there's a sharp bite and a pair of bollocks that come with this north London four piece. Their daring mix of originality alongside their obvious retro gothic rock influences is precisely what camp dividing is made of. It is similarly their ability to not only take from the old, but add in a key fresh new ingredient, that so many other [...]

A STRATOCASTER designed by Young Knives is to be auctioned off in aid of Oxfam. The root vegetable-themed Fender electric guitar is one of several designed by acts including Glasvegas and Starsailor being sold on Sunday for charity, as part of the Oxjam Kilburn music festival. Organisers hope the guitar will raise £1,000 for the good cause.
Well it's that time of the decade again - eek! Ten years ago we were stocking up on tinned food and preparing for society to melt down after Y2K, as well as stocking up on champagne and party poppers ready for the party of the millennium. Sigh! Time, therefore, to take stock of the musical legacy of the decade. And thanks to blogs, filesharing, streaming, Youtube, the Hype Machine and specialist online radio stations, we've never had so much music at our fingertips before. So the job of distilling all these down to a small(ish) chart is by no means [...]
My mate Diccon from Super Milkmen (along with his partner Joseph) have been kind enough to have a go at the Bass Music Blog & give us a new mix. Have a read bellow and see what their about, then listen to the mix. These guys are defintly stars in the making. Super Milkmen have played with everyone from Calvin Harris to Rusko and SubFocus aswell as touring Asia twice this year! They mix up decks, midi controllers and laptops to create [...]

This is an ever changing and (hopefully) expanding list of some of the songs I have mentioned before in this blog or simply stuff I have found somewhere on the web that I find interesting, but have no time to write about. All files have been found somewhere in cyberspace (and NONE of them have uploaded by me, so I cannot help you with any requests you might have - just keep returning and something new might pop up), so they will be available until the artists, record labels, fans, whatever decide to remove them. Thanks to a few readers, [...]

Having hosted the experimental new music show on the BBC's Radio 1 for over ten years, Mary Anne Hobbs knows her stuff. She wants to know what else is out there, and she wants to share it with you. She is arguably the person who turned the world on to dubstep, in the early hours of January 10th 2006 on a very special Breezeblock entitled Dubstep Warz. Since then, she put together two eclectic compilations for Planet Mu ( Warrior Dubz in 2006 and Evangeline in 2008) and is about to release a third called Wild [...]

I stumbled upon Lauren Doss, a.k.a Mechanical Bride , just the other day while browsing through Transgressive Records' sprawling musical roster. Home to the likes of Graham Coxon, Mystery Jets and The Young Knives, this upcoming songstress was in undoubtedly good company. Turns out that Lauren initially caught the eye of her (then) future record company with a surprising cover of Rihanna's 'Umbrella'. Taking this slice of glistening pop, Doss turned it into a lingering, piano-led number complete with Flo and the Machine quality-like vocals. Transgressive immediately saw the potential and signed Mechanical [...]

There was a huge amount of release information from Palasades/Tartan released recently. Just in time for Halloween, Palisades Tartan is pleased to present THE BUTCHER , a distinctive and bloody treat. Told entirely from POV camera shots, this film is set to shock and scare audiences October 27th in video stores across the country. A small group of people lie battered and bound on the floor of a dirty slaughterhouse covered in blood. Scared and confused, they soon learn their captors are snuff film producers and plan to torture them as [...]

...said Neil Tennant a few years back. I don't normally post new stuff very often (if at all - I can't actually think of any track that's made it onto this site that's been less than a year old*) but I'm making a couple of exceptions tonight. I feel the need to share two hot-off-the-press brand new tracks that have been tickling my fancy the past couple of days. First up, the Flaming Lips . The mid-west psychedelic pioneers have an album out on 13th October and this track has [...]
