Back in December of last year, 'The Flaming Lips' were confirmed as the headliners for the 'Green Man Festival 2010' and now, a host more names have been revealed for this years incarnation. Beirut, Field Music, Billy Bragg, Alasdair Roberts, Mathew And The Atlas and Cass McCombs make up half of the ten new names that will all play their part at the Welsh Festival on the weekend of August 20th - 22nd at Glanusk Park.
I honestly never thought I'd see the day where I'd be recommending a gig in Easterhouse, I know I sound like such a snob in saying that so please excuse my middle-class leanings as this a belter of a line up. Platform are launching their new season of music at the The Bridge on Saturday the 27th of February with an excellent line up, boasting James Yorkston and the Athletes, the Alisdair Roberts Trio, The Phantom Band and Remember Remember, all for the bargain price of £5. I am way that weekend, so I'm already a bit gutted [...]

January is nearly over, thank god!As I guess most of you are in a fairly similar boat to my good self, you've been counting down the days until pay day, whilst avoiding checking your bank balance. Or perhaps that's just me. Next weekend should prove to be a relief to most of you, finally you're going to be able actually afford to do something fun with your weekend. Thankfully next weekend sees an abundance of events taking place for you to go and sample some fine music whilst enjoying a couple of shandies (you've earned it). [...]
Ofsted prowls with murderous intent on the doorstep of our beleaguered establishment, causing adults who probably should know better to careen hysterically about the place. It's all a bit hairy really – I hope they come soon… Alasdair Roberts Am currently very keen on this album from Scottish folk singer, Alasdair Roberts. Clearly a kindred spirit with Will Oldham, he manages to fill out some classic (or classic-sounding) old songs with [...]

So here we are at Day 2 of the "Best of 20093 Blogger Crew and today is a monster post from E. over at Das Klienicum . It's a monster because he is posting on his top 50 albums of the year and he even has ratings broken out by number of stars (ranked out of 5 as best)....ummm, top 50 people!! There isn't gushing, there isn't microscopic dissection of each album in order to create some sort of reasoning, there is simply that feeling when you just know that this album is good and [...]

40. Andrew Bird - Tenuousness . Andrew Bird's music has the same strengths and weaknesses as Wes Anderson's movies. Bird is a craftsman who obsesses over every precious detail. When he's at his best you can appreciate all of the nuance and craftsmanship in his songs, and at his worst it can all feel a little airless and claustrophobic - both sides of the coin are at play in this clip, as well as his enormous talent. 39. Small Black - Despicable Dogs Self consciously shitty production was [...]

It´s no big step from Joanna Newsom to Alasdair Roberts. They´re labelmates on Drag City, pals with and championed by Bonnie Will Oldham and they both operate in what some people call the freakfolk genre. The former Appendix Out vocalist is a lot less freaky than Newsom though, preferring a much more traditional approach to folk. And that´s cool, too. On my fave album of his for instance, the Scotsman shows a lot of reverence for ye olde ballads he takes on. Following in the footsteps of Shirley Collins, Planxty and Nic ´Penguin Eggs´ [...]
