When we first heard onetime BTW Pablo Díaz-Reixa, aka El Guincho, we were drawn in by "Antillas," a song we described as "a five-minute bundle of clattering loops and sunny harmonies." It was from the self-released Alegranza! , before he'd signed to XL, who reissued the collection. Almost two years after being hooked we have an "Antillas" remix by XXXchange . It shows up on one of two double 12"s that feature remixes of the track by the likes of Architecture In Helsinki, Prins Thomas, Banana Clipz, etc. (Mad Decent's releasing one, Young Turks the other.) [...]

Photography "Mojo Rising" by jonmmmayhem To see the photo Mojo shot from atop the couch, go here (Not100%SFW) Well, what do you know.... it's Friday. Huh. Go figure. Whacha doin' this weekend? Me? Besides riding my bicycle on my quest to make to 6,000 miles before the end of the year -- I'm just over 5,000 miles, and with just under 6 weeks left, that means I need to do over 170 miles a week! Oh man... [...]

It's time once again to highlight some the hip, indie music that soundtracks ads from cars, beers, phones, to climate change (you didn't think the indie rock in commercials trend was going away, did you?). So for all you Hulu / DVR watchers that are missing out on all the joys of live television, here's a few of the best songs that creative departments and ad agencies are harvesting for mass consumption. MP3s and link to video included. Cadillac: Watch Commercial I'd be willing to venture a guess that this is the most played [...]
Tracklist: 1. DJ Mehdi – Red, Black & Blue 2. Busy P feat. Murs – To Protect And Entertain (DJ Mehdi Remix) 3. Joakim – Oleg Dans Les Bois (DJ Mehdi Remix) 4. Dj Mehdi feat. Fafi – Lucky Girl 5. Etienne [...]

You know what's better than a Yacht live show? Well not much considering it's like tantric sex on some drug that hasn't even been invented yet while extraterrestrial beings stroke your ears with rabbit tails and hundred dollar bills. If that doesn't make sense, all I'm trying to say is it's really fucking good. If I was pressed however, the one thing that is better than a Yacht live show, is a Yacht live show featuring Architecture In Helsinki spinning mad eclectic beats (but probably mostly Hip Hop) with support from Sydney's Danimals and a super group comprised [...]

Newcastle's Little Comets are quickly coming up the ranks of indie bands going places at the end of 2009, and have been picked to play Topman's CTRL gig this month at Korova in Liverpool, next Thursday November 19th. On CTRL each month a different band edits the blog then curates a live show. This month is Passion Pit , who are live on the site now and have chosen Little Comets, Airship and Bicycle Thieves for their [...]

Soulive is this funky jazz soul trio consisting of two brothers, Alan and Neal Evans, and Eric Krasno. All hail from the great state of NY. I had no idea who they were but my friend guaranteed I'd love them. And so off we went in search of the Bowery Ballroom. Inside lies black leather couches, candle lit tables, and an almost 20's esque ambiance to it. I felt as if everyone should have been wearing beaded dresses and pearls...but alas, we presumed the pretense of the place and fitted in accordingly with all the hipster attire. Drinks were [...]

Q: Can you start by describing your sound? Rob: I think we try and make pretty melodic, percussive music dealing with quite dark subject matter, but with jaunty melodies. It's hard to do! Q: So disguising the dark subject matter? Rob: Yeah, you could say that! Q: The phrase 'Kitchen Sink Indie' has been used to describe you, care to comment? Rob: It might just be lazy journalism, as [...]

Since my absence, I've been living under the rock for the past few months and in effect missed out on a lot of news and tracks coming out. While catching up, I came across these !ack^$*(%) awesome finds I know you and many others will find worth listening to in the long run. Had so much fun making this list so here I am sharing it with everyone. You'll find 30 GREAT TRACKS : Jason Lytle , a couple of songs from Passion Pit , great tracks from Grizzly Bear , [...]
T Mobile + Architecture In Helsinki "Fumble" One of my favorites from the Australian band. Off the excellent In Case We Die . Just saw this during the Yankee game.

Otouto - 'Sushi' ( mp3 ) "I mistook a man eating sushi / for a man putting on a fake moustache." So goes the opening line to this song by Melbourne three-piece Otouto, which is equally quirky in sound as it is in lyrical content. There's just a thin guitar line, some plonking piano, pots-and-pans percussion and an acrobatic vocal melody. It's 'art pop' in the same way as Architecture in Helsinki, invoking a similarly playful atmosphere in its minimalist yet unrestrained arrangement. I heard this track a while back and it didn't exactly [...]
When you run out of money, friends, tolerance of facebook and life in general, Cd's are like the pet that comforts you without asking anything in return or shitting on the carpet. Time poor and without a penny to my name until pay day, I like many turn to my glorious Cd collection for solice. Now Cuthbert & The Nightwalkers are one of those acts that even the cold-fickle kids of Sydney have held close to their heart for sometime now. All the more reason that a full length release can prove to be both an [...]

Boston's Bodega Girls play that off beat Architecture In Helsinki meets Black Kids indie dance funk hip hop that interests me greatly. This style also blends seamlessly when they introduce it... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]
Here, for no apparent reason, is a collection of bands named after places. Architecture in Helsinki I never knew the city was renowned for its flair for buildings. I guess it's catchier than Architecture in Slough. Beirut A New Mexican who named his group after a Lebanese city and plays eastern European, French and Mexican-influenced folk. Somebody has identity issues. [...]

I always pictured Mum as one of those great post-rock groups with leanings toward electronic bleeps and bloops and lightly orchestrated melodies with dark sound-scapes, all of it instrumental. After all, Yesterday Was Dramatic, Today Is Okay was pretty much just that, and it is the only album from Mum of which I've heard. Their new one, Sing Along To Songs You Don't Know is quite different - at least at first. And I just haven't quite gotten over the shock of less electronics and... well, the full inclusion of vocals. [...]
