Stop Working - The Yolks

- T'as vu ça ? - Quoi ? - Ben le truc là ! La planète HAT-P-7b ! - Hein ? http quoi ? [...]
Benevento/Russo Duo : Another instrumental take here, this one they dedicate to The Slip's Brad Barr. Speaking of which, you can find another great rendition of this song on the LMA that in addition to The Duo, features Andrew Barr & Marc Friedman from The Slip. Source: 7-4-2003 Brothers Past : Most of the covers are pretty to-the-point this week, thankfully we have Brothers Past to extend their take to the 10-minute mark before dropping into their next song. A nice recording of these guys. Source: [...]
What started out a back-to-basics project has turned into one of the coolest, most forward-thinking American metal bands of this decade. Considering the other musical projects of Mick Barr and Colin Marston, it's not much of a surprise that the guitarists are taken aback by all the attention their band Krallice has received over the last year and a half. After all, these guys have never, ever specialized in any kind of music that would remotely fall under the description, "accessible". You've got avant-garde noodler Barr, who has lent his fleet-fingered shredding and tremolo picking to...

photos by Lori Baily , words by BBG Krallice at Union Pool, replete with stage invaders Almost no music is more ripe for renovation than black metal, with its hyper mannerisms, its flamboyant obscurantism, its single-mood monotony. Some recent American bands have been doing just that, without Satanism, face paint or bad aesthetics. Krallice , a New York City band with an excellent new record, "Dimensional Bleedthrough" (Profound Lore), takes some of black metal's conventions - its blast beats and guitar [...]

On Friday longtime favorites Krallice played to a very packed Union Pool, along with the duo Orphan and fellow NYC black metal crews Malkuth and Liturgy. I'd just put on a Halloween show with Krallice and Malkuth, so I timed my arrival to catch Krallice celebrating the release of their great second album Dimensional Bleedthrough . Because of the quartet's endless multi-tasking -- drummer Lev Weinstein's in Bloody Panda, Mick Barr is Mick Barr, Colin Marston plays in Dysrhythmia, Behold... The Arctopus, Gorguts, etc., and is an active producer -- you see the guys out [...]

********** Lundi. Une putain de migraine depuis quelques jours. J'ai pourtant rien bu, chose exceptionnelle. C'est peut-être ça le problème ? Je me sens crevé...

Was In The French Resistance… Now!

Ah, wanderly wagon. A children's show from those days where a vignette about snakes and ladders could prove as terrifyingly existential as a one-act Samuel Beckett play. And, as we all know, life sometimes still feels like a fucked up game of snakes and ladders with a know-it-all prick of a crow cackling 'I told you so' over your shoulder. (Aside - If there was an Irish 'Neon Indian', he'd swipe the theme tune to wanderly wagon and fucking run with it for ever, the chillwave cunt. Hey, wait...I'm just kidding Neon. Come back please, I need [...]

Scotland Barr passed away September 1st after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. His last album with the Slow Drags, All the Aviators Agree , found its way on to many reviewers top album list for 2008 with its combination of Americana, British Invasion, southern rock and West Coast pop. The band was feverishly working on a new double album to be titled (unironically at the time) We Will Be Forgotten . Four stupendous songs have been released and can be found linked below. The band, unable to tour without their leader, [...]

photos by Leia Jospe "When you hear the stories that after Hisham Bharoocha left [ Lightning Bolt ] to form Black Dice , Chippendale took over vocals by jamming the microphone into his mouth, it all seems to make perfect sense. Lightning Bolt concentrate their efforts around the sheer propulsion and energy their music drives off. And while Chippendale has always been an excellent drummer, the vocals he provides here and there open up the sounds in immense manners. On the forever moving [...]

Recommended Show: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2009 LIGHTNING BOLT @ ABOVE THE AUTO PARTS STORE 600 Bushwick Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11206 $12, 8PM In terms of noisier bands, this might not only be the place to be tonight, but could potentially be the most anticipated show of the year. Lightning Bolt are one of those bands from the scene to really break to something bigger, and they're joined by Black Dice, Mick Barr, and TV Ghost. If noise isn't your thing, check out other events after the jump. Sigmund Droid @ Lit Palomar [...]

Olympic Gold Medalist and ten-time World Champion Fighter Oscar de la Hoya officially cut the ribbon on the Oscar de la Hoya Ánimo Charter High School in Boyle Heights today, situated at the location of his former boxing gym. Big congrats and thanks to Oscar; full press release and more photos by Nicholas Alan Cope after the jump. OSCAR DE LA HOYA CELEBRATES [...]
by BBG DOWNLOAD: Megasus - "Paladin Vs. Berserker" (MP3) Although he plays (an oddly outfitted) bass in Lightning Bolt , Brian Gibson is the DRUMMER for Megasus . While Lightning Bolt toils in the outer reaches of spazzy noise, Megasus is an entirely different animal (pun!), resembling something closer to High On Fire than Boredoms. The Providence band self-released their [...]
Back in early 2008, Marco Benevento set-up a Thursday night residency at Sullivan Hall that featured a series of killer combos and collaborations including: Andrew Barr, Billy Martin, Bobby Previte, Brad Barr, DJ Olive, G. Calvin Weston, Reed Mathis, Joe Russo, John Ellis, Kaki King, Marc Friedman, Skerik, Stanton Moore, and Steven Bernstein. Shine A Light Productions captured it all on film and just recently completed a DVD of the events entitled "Marco Benevento (& Friends): Live In NYC: The Sullivan Hall Residency." Here's a little video teaser they put together for the [...]

It's no secret that many of our readers have had plenty of spirited discussions over the last few months, or maybe years, discussing what classic album Phish would cover at the next Halloween show. The concept of this live "Musical Costume" was launched by Phish on Halloween in 1994 when they performed The Beatles White Album in its entirety. Errr, except Good Night which was played over the PA system. And while Phish has done it three additional times - and a fourth if you include Dark Side Of The Moon on November 2nd, 1998 in Utah - they have [...]
