No One Can Ever Know .

Album Review: Mark Lanegan Band – Blues Funeral

There are some musicians that have their heyday in their youth, and there are others who are at their best by the time they're middle-aged. Then there are musicians, like Mark Lanegan, who age like fine wine. Although he released Hawk with former Belle & Sebastian member Isobel Campbell in 2010, this is the first solo album Lanegan's released since 2004's Bubblegum . But with his past fame as a solo artist, his time with Screaming Trees and Queens of the Stone Age, he's more than equipped to put out an album that's both musically and lyrically [...]

Album Of The Week: Mark Lanegan Band Blues Funeral

Album Of The Week: Mark Lanegan Band Blues Funeral A year and a half ago, I had a perfectly lovely telephone conversation with Isobel Campbell, the former Belle & Sebastian member who has recorded three ultra-satisfying albums of Nancy Sinatra pastiche with Mark Lanegan. And during that conversation, I learned something about Lanegan that seems to throw this entire career into stark relief: He is a massive fan of the Los Angeles Clippers. More specifically, he is someone who will fly on three separate planes to get to a Clippers game. And given that the Clippers have historically been one of the great lost causes of professional [...]

A Contrast in Styles w/Brown Recluse & Instamatic at MilkBoy Philly Feb. 4

A Contrast in Styles w/Brown Recluse & Instamatic at MilkBoy Philly Feb. 4 Tonight's show at Milkboy Philly is a bit of a contrast in styles, but it will feature somewhat hidden gems of our city. Starting off the evening will be the synthpop assault of Instamatic in the first of two shows in their hometown this month, which they have dubbed "Instamatic Appreciation Month" on their blog. The four man synth army released their latest EP, Three Song EP , which is full of new wave beats that sound like the best 80's dance party you've ever been to. Headlining tonight's show will be the tropicalia/ bossa nova-inspired psychedelic [...]

Dusting Em Off: Mark Lanegan – The Winding Sheet

When most people think of Mark Lanegan , they may think of the Screaming Trees, the psychedelically-infused hard rock band from the Seattle region that Lanegan co-founded and sang for, or of Queens of the Stone Age, the guitar-driven rock and roll outfit led by Josh Homme and Nick Oliveri that featured contributions from Lanegan. In recent years, Lanegan has been showing a softer, more delicate side through his duets with former Belle and Sebastian cellist/vocalist Isobel Cambpell in what may be described as a contemporary Lee Hazelwood-Nancy Sinatra pairing. For those surprised by the soft side of Lanegan, [...]

Gerard Love de Teenage Fanclub estrena proyecto alterno

Lightships - Two Lines

[Pop] Turn Off Your Television – I Just Cleaned The Floor

[Pop] Turn Off Your Television – I Just Cleaned The Floor Swedish trio Turn Off Your Television take their influences from pop across the decades, and create beautifully sweet and twee tunes. 'I Just Cleaned The Floor' is one such track, and sounds like a long-lost Two Door Cinema Club hit (with just a hint of Belle & Sebastian ). One for fans of jangly guitars and bubblegum lyrics, Turn Off Your Television have the potential to be massive this year, and one listen of their back catalogue will have you craving more.

Princeton - Florida

Princeton - Florida Princeton is a California based band that has this new song called Florida. Apparently, they are a fan of locales. Florida is shimmery, keyboard friendly song that talks about different places in Florida. The vocals remind me of Belle and Sebastian's vocals a bit, not overwhelming, but strong nonetheless. The song overall is pleasant and fits the mood of weather we're currently experiencing in Florida -- bright and cheery. Check out the song below and download it (legally!) as well: Download Princeton Florida Download Princeton Florida

"Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me" Screening at SXSW

"Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me" Screening at SXSW Get ready all of you kids who are headed to SXSW this year. Why are we writing about a festival in Austin you ask? Well, it could be for a number of reasons including the fact that Natives, Oh My Me, and Idiot Glee are all performing, or that our sister blog WeListenForYou is throwing a daytime party as they did last year , but, in this particular instance, it's because we're excited about a film from Gill Holland's production company The Group Entertainment (Flow, Con Artist, Beautiful Darling, etc) that is going [...]

Io odio gli anni '80 – The Vaselines, la fotointervista @ indie-eye.it – Roma 25 Gennaio 2012

MP3: Hospitality: Eighth Avenue

MP3: Hospitality: Eighth Avenue You can always count on Merge Records to deliver the goods and they did so this week with the debut record from Hospitality , a band that plays the type of Belle & Sebastian-inspired jangly, wistful indie pop that always seems to hit the sweet spot for me. The first track on Hospitality's self-titled debut is "Eighth Avenue" which opens with all the typical twee-signifiers, gently strummed acoustic guitar and airy vocals, but opens up to become a lush, brilliantly realized track with some quick tempo-changes and rowdy guitar noodling among the memorable melodies. Check it out [...]
