After a break-neck tour with Biffy Clyro, Leeds quartet Pulled Apart By Horses have decided to finish 2009 off with some headlining dates of their own. There's only five dates in all and surprisingly, London has been left off of their list but they do have a huge night planned in their hometown of Leeds where they'll be curating the Xmas Alldayer Show at the Cockpit on December 5th.
While it doesn't always happen, there is something hugely satisfying about a band's commercial and artistic peak dovetailing. Biffy Clyro took the guts of ten years to reach a mainstream audience but managed it with their best work to date, 2007's fine Puzzle album. The worry now is that, having taken so long to truly find their sound, that instead of continuing on the path of greater things to come they head down the road of perdition to being remembered as a one hit wonder or under the category of 'one decent enough album'. Add the [...]

Gone is the piercing jagged shell that once encased Ayrshire screamster darlings Biffy Clyro , storing them safe away from the sycophantic smoothness of the saccharine-sweet conker that is Radio 1, Goal of the Month backing tracks and the dear old NME; the mainstream. Just as Simon Neil's estranged locks hit the kitchen tiles around the release of critically-acclaimed cross-over behemoth, Puzzle, a few years back, Biffy have fallen from the tree of post-hardcore insanity, smoothing over their once sharpened, glitchy edges and exposing the vulnerable pop sensibilities that perpetually threatened to seep out from day one, back in [...]

○○○○○ ANOTHER band with a pedigree that puts them in the running are Biffy Clyro , as the only act to have two previous Albums Of The Year. 2004's Infinity Land and 2007's Puzzle are both previous selections on Sound Advice, plus the new album, Only Revolutions , was also suggested as a contender on Facebook . And who am I to argue - because this month's release Only Revolutions is, ahem, genius. Sure, the Scottish prog-pop-metal trio know how to hammer the listener with noise - such as [...]

The Llama Farmers were another teenage band that garnered some attention in the music press in the post-Britpop years, they were more indebted to the alternative American scene of the mid-90's, think post 'Nevermind' bands and you are half way there. They released two albums, 'Dead Letter Chorus' and 'El Toppo', and even played with some great Scottish bands including Idlewild and Biffy Clyro, which should give you a good indication of what they sound like. Today's (November 16th) new album releases include: Them Crooked Vultures - 'Them Crooked Vultures' Stereophonics - 'Keep Calm and Carry On' Also worth checking out is the latest Kitsuné Maison Compilation, which I previewed a couple of week back here : Kitsune Maison, Vol. 8 Both releases featured from last week, Biffy Clyro's 'Only Revolutions' and Snow Patrol's 'Up to Now', managed to break into the top 10, at number 8 and 3 [...]

In the last week we finally put our thoughts together and decided on the artists we deemed to have it in them to define the next ten years . Whilst many other publications were still going nuts over the last ten years, this lot made us look forward to the future. Album-wise, Biffy Clyro got a rousing reception and The Antlers finally got their worthy praise from our writers. That and we featured tracks from Hot Chip , Frightened Rabbit and Penguin Prison . Quiet week this was not. So let's [...]

Hail to the power of radio play. Tonight is testament to what remains the number one force for pushing a band around these parts. Following five previous visits to these shores, one album and a considerable radio hit under their belt, The Airborne Toxic Event walk onstage at The Olympia, reaching something of a benchmark of success in this country. They've drawn a sizeable crowd too, though there are very few of the skinny-jeaned posse in attendance tonight. This is not a draw for those who like to think they're on the cusp of things and - at [...]
Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro are in the middle of a tour of Europe in support of their new full-length, Only Revolutions. Manchester Orchestra are along for some of the dates, including the Nov. 2 show at the Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow. Couldn't ...
Atlanta, Georgia indie rockers Manchester Orchestra have just released a brand new video for their upcoming single 'Shake It Out' The video see's frontman Andy Hull playing homage to action films from the 1980's. Think overacting, training montages and testosterone by the bucket load. Manchester Orchestra are currently touring the UK alongside Pulled Apart By Horses and Biffy Clyro in what could be the hairiest tour ever! The band then head to Germany for a select number of headline dates. Manchester Orchestra's second album, 'Mean Everything [...]

ALBUM REVIEW: Biffy Clyro - Only Revolutions words : Gareth O'Malley Everyone is tired of hearing it, but it must be said once again: In the eyes of quite a substantial number of their hardcore fans, Biffy Clyro have skirted dangerously close to abandoning everything that they loved about them. 2007's 'Puzzle' saw the Scottish three-piece moving in a much poppier direction, eschewing the complex song structures (and very nearly, time signatures) that had been developed on [...]
New album releases for this week (November 9th) include: Biffy Clyro - 'Only Revolutions' Snow Patrol - 'Up to Now' A lack of good new album releases this week means I'm having to feature Snow Patrol's greatest hits album. First of all, there is actually demand for a Snow Patrol greatest hits album? Secondly, do Snow Patrol actually have any decent tracks to put on a Snow Patrol greatest hits album? Anyway, end of rant. Somewhat surprisingly none of the albums featured [...]

In a healthily expanding approach to exchanging music for some useful fan info, Brooklyn psych-indie troupe Yeasayer have become the latest to embrace the e-mail for free tune concept. Their newie 'Ambling Alp' - available here - is pulled from the second album Odd Blood , due out in February next year.....actually next decade, but who's counting? Me. In the last week we've gone mental when seeing Muse and Biffy Clyro live and listening to the Pomegranates record. We've gone not so mental listening to Athlete. We also listed our act of the year nominations and decided to stay faithful to music industry out of the kindness of our own hearts . Now a new week begins, JLS are about to release their debut album (we're thrilled) and we're thus celebrating by giving you this week's MFM Playlist. Check out all of the artists listed below if they sound [...]

MANCHESTER ORCHESTRA PREMIERES "SHAKE IT OUT" VIDEO ON MYSPACE TODAY = Columbia Records and Favorite Gentlemen are excited to announce the video premiere for Manchester Orchestra's second single, "Shake It Out," on MySpace. The video is a brilliant homage to 1980's action films (tongue firmly planted in cheek). The powerfully epic "Shake It Out," the second single from Manchester Orchestra's second album, Mean Everything To Nothing, was just sent to Modern Rock radio and was met with great excitement. "I've Got Friends," the first single from Mean Everything To Nothing spent 26 weeks on [...]

I've posted about Biffy Clyro before, where I brought you their quiet-loud-quiet-loud-quiet-lo ud shouty rock masterpiece, "Mountains". Finally, Biffy have decided to release the album containing said quiet-loud-quiet-loud-quiet-lo ud shouty rock masterpiece (from hereon know as QLQLQLSRM) (despite that QLQLQLSRM being released well over a year ago). And....well....Biffy, back in the day, released some very experimental stuff. However, as time (and each album release) passes, Biffy have gone more and more mainstream. More accessible. Less experimental. And do you know what? I love it. "The Captain", the first single [...]
