Best Albums of 00 | 01 | 02 | 03 | 04 | 05 | 06 | 07 | 08 | 09 2007 might just be my favorite year for music releases this decade. Unfortunately, many, many great albums were left out of this list. It was pretty hard leave them out, but I couldn't press the little blue "Publish" button without any of the following albums on the list: [...]

Reader's Choice: Artic Monkeys – Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not Was anyone shocked to see Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not win the popular vote for Best of 2006? If you were, you were probably born in 2007… just woke up from a 4 year coma. The album is stunningly simple. Its guitar work and lightening quick vocals are basic, but there's genius in that simplicity. Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not feels rough around the edges, but [...]

Baltimore duo Beach House have revealed details of their forthcoming third record and début on their new label-home, Sub Pop Records. The pair hauled up and moved to a church in New York for an entire month with producer Chris Coady (who's previously twiddled knobs for Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV On The Radio and Blonde Redhead) to produce their new ten-track record Teen Dreams.

In the last week we've gone mental when seeing Muse and Biffy Clyro live and listening to the Pomegranates record. We've gone not so mental listening to Athlete. We also listed our act of the year nominations and decided to stay faithful to music industry out of the kindness of our own hearts . Now a new week begins, JLS are about to release their debut album (we're thrilled) and we're thus celebrating by giving you this week's MFM Playlist. Check out all of the artists listed below if they sound [...]

click image to view artist in itunes Sounds like: Portishead, Blonde Redhead, Yeah Yeah Yeahs what's so good? The amount of sound produced by just two band members can be mind-blowing. When Mr. Gnome released their debut album Deliver This Creature in early 2008, I found myself oddly enraptured by their dark sound. I didn't realize at the time that there were only two members, guitarist Nicole Barille and drummer Sam Meister . All [...]
23 - Blonde Redhead A friend asks: "Is this NY23 thing a big deal? Perhaps more importantly, do we want it to be (I can't tell whether I want the Republicans to implode after a long season of infighting or return to the middle so that elections can be about more reasonable things again, assuming they ever were)?" These are fair questions. I think the best take I've seen so far is from Jonathan Bernstein here and here . The takeaway is that the race does matter, sort [...]

I've decided to create an installment in which I do a recap of my favorite albums of the past ten years now that we're coming up on the turn-of-decade - yes, 2010 is upon us. They key: I do them one at a time. I figure contemplating the weight of albums that have been instituted in my library for the better part (or even just half) of a decade would warrant a skewed opinion when comparing them to those released just this month. And, as these things are all truly opinion-based, well I just couldn't have that. [...]

Bassist Tim Nordwind (right) and his bandmates OK Go has been one of the more underappreciated rock bands of the past several years. Their excellent last release, Oh No , was overshadowed by its equally excellent videos for "A Million Ways" and "Here it Goes Again" (the treadmill video), the latter of which won a Grammy Award. In January, they return with the Of the Blue Colour of the Sky , a record produced by Dave Fridmann (MGMT, Flaming Lips) that channels Prince and shows off the band's funky side. [...]

Blonde Redhead Club Soda Montreal, Canada 10/23/04 Here's a nice recording from Canada during Blonde Redhead's "Misery Is a Butterfly" tour back in 2004. I saw them a couple of times on this tour and I was still amazed how their songs from early records still give me goosebumps when they play them live. Setlist: 1. Falling Man 2. Futurism vs. Passeism Pt. II 3. Pink Love 4. In Particular 5. Melody of Certain Three 6. Misery is a Butterfly 7. [...]
Stars - Warpaint
See more of my CMJ photos on Flickr. Glasser Matador Records/True Panther Sounds Showcase The Suffolk Despite a minimal little stage setup that fused with the trickling-in audience, Glasser aka Cameron Mesirow, lately an LA-NY dual citizen, put on a wonderful, engaged and engaging show of songs from her EP Apply and what I assume to be a forthcoming full-length release on True Panther Sounds (please!!!) Glasser may love effects, but her voice is powerful and original and those little yelps on "Apply" sounded [...]

I am very thankful to have Cahn as a friend for without him i'd be in the dark about a ton of great music. Today he pointed me towards omgvinyl that has introduced me to Glaciers . For fans of Explosions in the Sky and Do Make Say Think, Glaciers wont disappoint. They quote bands like Black Sabbath,Blonde Redhead and Sun 0))) as influences so that's a great start, oh and their debut LP is a vinyl only release. They will have two versions of this album. The first is $10 and [...]

After a summer of hard work, the payoff is here: Flawless Hustle proudly presents Money Isn't Real , our first compilation. If there's one topic that's a constant in Hip-Hop is money. Whether heads are making it, spending it or stealing it, the scene (and our world) is obsessed with money. Hell, one of the reasons people hustle is to get loot, so we ourselves know the power of a dollar, which got us thinking: what the fuck is money, really? It's an interesting concept, and was a great jumping off point for this debut project, so [...]

LCD Soundsystem 's show at Randall's Island with Blonde Redhead and Arcade Fire was almost exactly two years ago. Since then I've been forced to rely on James & Pats excellent Special Disco Version DJ sets as the band has taken an extended break from recording & touring. At long last, things are starting to heat up again. The band just announced the release of a 123 single, "Bye Bye Bayou", a cover of the Alan Vega track from 1980. Check it out below. [...]

so i've just finished the third revision of my top 100 albums list - which to avoid confusion/arguments is a personal selection, not an attempt at a best of all time list - and to build some interest/excitement in the list beyond myself and the 1-2 other people that have traditionally cared about this i've decided to do a ten day countdown leading up to my number 1 album choice, vh1 best [whatever] of [decade] style. [100 - 91] [90-81] [...]
