Ambient electronic veterans Groove Armada are returning with a new album. Black Light is scheduled to drop on February 23rd. The album includes a very special guest as Roxy Music's Bryan Ferry appears on the track "Shameless". Empire Of the Sun's Nick Littlemore is among the other guests on the record. We've already got the video for the lead single "I Won't Kneel" for you to enjoy: Groove
"I think even people who've hated everything we've ever made before could absolutely love this record," says Tom Findlay of UK dance-pop duo Groove Armada , and damn if he doesn't seem to be right. Findlay and and his cohort Andy Cato have been banging out a blend of house, downtempo, big-beat, and pop for a dozen years now, but on their new album, Black Light , due out February 23rd, they turn the beat around in a bold new way. Inspired by the spirit of the Lovebox festival they curate in London each year, which [...]

In the Book Notes series, authors create and discuss a music playlist that relates in some way to their recently published book. Lydia Millet is one of my favorite writers, and her first collection of short fiction, Love in Infant Monkeys marries celebrities with animals to great effect. These keenly written interactions of human and animal move these tales forward and offer rare insights into the human psyche as well as our celebrity-obsessed culture. The Los Angeles Times wrote of the book: "Lydia Millet's first [...]

It was solo prodigies galore at night 3 with Marina & The Diamonds + Wolf Gang, Clock Opera, and a special performance by Dragonette. First up (due to a 'scheduling snafu') was Dragonette , who you might remember I'm not a huge fan of. Suffice to say that I was proved wrong in some respects after seeing them live, especially due to Dragonette 's bass, keyboard and laptop player slash backing vocalist [...]

So here we are at the weekend before the holiday season officially begins and everyone's schedule gets really busy, so get your music fixes in now. On Thursday night you can check out the final night of the Jenny Dee & The Deelinquints residency at the Lizard. It's also the first night of the International Pop Overthrow 4 night stint at Church. Via Wiki: The Mighty Boosh is a British comedy troupe featuring comedians Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding . Developed from three stage shows and a six episode radio series , it has since spawned a total of twenty television episodes for BBC Three and two live tours of the UK, as well as two live shows in the United States. I first came across an episode of The Mighty Boosh late one night while tirelessly searching for something of any interest on television. [...]

So many great choices for Thursday. You could start at Toad for the early part of the night and see uke master Melvern Taylor. Afterwards there are many venues that have great line-ups. Gordon Gano, yup the guy from the Violent Femmes, and his his new band is at the Middle East with Sidewalk Driver and Mascara. Also on Thursday there's the Lovewhip cd release at Church or go to TTs for John Powhida International Airport, Logan 5 and the Runners, Weisstronauts and Mercy James (great local line-up!). On Friday, I'll Be at Precinct to see My Own Worst Enemy, [...]

By Pete Donahue I admit I am not too familiar with Devendra Banhart's previous work. I have heard bits and pieces; when his last album, 2007's Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon , was released, I sought it out not because I was intrigued by all the critical praise and blog hype, but because I read Nick Valensi of the Strokes provided guest vocals (in French) on a track called "Shabop Shalom." I still can't tell if I even hear Valensi on the track, but the song was interesting enough [...]
Filed under: News , R.I.P. Bassist Mark Smith was found dead in his London apartment Monday, Nov. 2, when he failed to turn up for a gig. The 49-year-old made a career out of playing as a session and touring musician for popular acts such as Roxy Music , Bryan Ferry , Robbie Williams and David Gray . The cause of death is currently unknown. Born in 1960, Smith got his start with the '70s British band Kokomo when their bassist went on tour [...]

OK. I've seen this Wolf Gang chap floating around the blogs for a couple of months now, pictures of him molesting cats (above) and looking a bit artsy meant I've avoided him, I also read a press release which was well wanky. It contained the following highlight: "He was drawn weekly to the speakeasy glamour of Café Royale's now defunct 1920s night, where he enjoyed swing-dancing A-list actresses into the early hours. His own parties even developed a well-deserved reputation- especially his notorious masked balls." - Penis joke here plz. [...]

Prince Klassen is one of my favorite DJ / Producer / Remixers in the world at the moment. Roxy Music is one of my favorite bands of all time, a master act of the 1970's and 80's who straddled the lines of rock, dance and pop music, led by the inscrutable Bryan Ferry. This re-edit of "Love is the Drug", nearly a perfect song by our standards, just popped fresh into our inbox. And it's impressive - another in a series of outstanding edits that Prince Klassen has given us of classic tracks. Like [...]

Austrian downtempo master Peter Kruder has been waxing cool grooves on his own (and with Richard Dorfmeister) for years. Kruder recently released Private Collection, a cool 17-track compilation which he says "came after I played a series of concerts that were called 'The Listening Sessions.' Bringing people into great sounding venues with an amazing sound [...] http://newsflash.bigshotmag.co m/?p=5705 1. Peter Kruder / "25West 38th St" (Gigolo) 2. Check out this teaser for DJ Hell ft Bryan Ferry. People have been really excited about it, and to be honest I wasn't too fussed until I heard the whole thing which is 9 minutes long and a real slow-burner, an atmospheric collaboration dreams are made of. The remixes from Carl Craig, DFA's Tim Goldsworthy and Simian Mobile Disco will certainly be a treat! The press garb says of the full 9-minute version: ' "U Can Dance," a serpentine Moroder-esque disco burner ' - I wouldn't go that far, Moroder's pretty untouchable in my eyes , I bet the remixes [...]
