The Butterfly Explosion are a band from Ireland that blend powerful spiraling music with delicate vocals to form rich soundscapes of beautiful melodies, gliding between moments of ethereal dreampop and explosive sonic bliss. After doing pretty well by themselves, they're finaly preparing their debut full length album for release. Entitled, Lost Trails, the album was produced by Torsten Kinsella (God Is An [...]

Heading off to work for tomorrow morning's 4:39am launch of Endeavour and the STS-130 mission. It's the final night launch of a space shuttle and only four more of these in your manned United States space program, so try and catch the launch if you can. A bunch of readers and co-bloggers have emailed wanting to know how the cancellation of the Constellation program affects me personally and professionally and I appreciate the concern! I'll update everyone a few days after launch and the post-launch business but in short, I'll [...]

Radio Ireland is a brand new online independent radio station which exclusively plays Irish unsigned acts. "We arent interested in making money," explains Radio Ireland's Cris Rorschach. "We just want to support unsigned talent that does'nt get a chance in a very restricted and clicky irish music scene." According to Rorschach, Radio Ireland was launched and created to give exposure and radio airplay to new and unsigned Irish rock bands playing original music, "fresh from the streets and garages of Ireland". "We want to aid and nurture struggling musicians and songwriters to give [...]
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, people of the interweb. Today we have done something incredibly special. We have shown the world that the new wave is here. It is present, and it is ready to explode. You guys are all of it, because I can't follow ME. I don't even count. There are a million people that need to be thanked for this, and they are not me, because I can't follow me. I can't tell you how much I appreciate that you have invested your time and your energy into [...]
A list of gigs that with the greatest intention I shall be at over the next few months! Monday night Upstairs in Whelans is the album launch for Garret Baker's home produced debut album. I'm really looking forward to this because from the little I have heard of Garret's music I think it will be a night of great music. http://www.myspace.com/garretb aker [...]
Nialler has encouraged us all to make a list to help promote the best Irish music out there at the moment. For an hour yesterday and another hour or two this morning I thought about all the Irish artists I like at this moment in time. It's not an easy thing to do a list because I know I'm leaving out far too many good bands. However I'm happy to publish this list today as it defines what this blog is about and let's ya know what I think is great music in Ireland at this moment [...]
I was originally planning to go see the Butterfly Explosion gig in Whelans on St. Patrick's Eve but I'm having a re-think due to the free gig organised in The Lantern Bar in Navan. St. Paddy's Eve is a whole 15 years since I met my future wife so we are thinking a night of singer-songwriters is better than a packed Whelans. I'm sure Whelans will be a sell out for Butterfly Explosion and A Lazarus Soul. Performing on Monday are Joy Booth , Peadar Farrelly , Barry Mc'Auley, Eugene Donegan, Ruairi Coogan with more [...]
