It's always cringe-worthy when two brands that are "so last year" find each other. Witness, Jennifer Lopez 's brand-new single "Louboutins." (Stream it below.) I guess J. Lo has decided she's a singer again - just when she was in danger of being best known for her line of department-store fragrances! In a song that will make its live debut Sunday, on the American Music Awards, Lopez channels Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'" via Beyonce's pop girl-power anthems. Except, well, she just doesn't have the voice to nail it. The track is a miracle [...]
As I mentioned earlier this year, it seems that as a result of the recent times, Brooklyn, New York has become the center of the world for indie rock aficionados. Sure, maybe the Dodgers will never move back east, but Brooklyn has definitely developed into something much larger than their former baseball team could ever compare to. Singer/songwriter Tim Williams certainly feels right at home and well within the walls and camaraderie of Brooklyn. While literally clicking alive on the heels of his third full-length album , Careful Love , Williams channels his personal darkest hours of reconstructive [...]
Nothing like a horror movie music video to start your day off! Dada Life channels the ghost of Chucky in their new video for " Let's Get Bleeped Tonight "!

its friday today and that can only mean one thing. techy tech bangers as far as the eye can see. if i wasnt going to canberra to have a nice civilised dinner, i think the weekend would consist of me sweating it out between some sweaty gurneys in a darkened sweaty, debauched sweat den. ahhhh sweat, tech's closest and strongest ally. if i was to compare this style of eye beast to any sort of animal, it would have to a kangaroo.. bouncing seems to come naturally to this track and it would probably [...]
The Gregg Rolie Band Rain Dance (Limited Edition) Review by Nightwatcher Forty years ago, in a muddy pasture, part of a dairy farm in the rural town of Bethel, New York, the original Santana band performed a show stopping set at the legendary Woodstock Music and Arts Festival. Stunning the 500,000 plus in attendance with their unique, visionary blend of heavy blues based guitar rock melded with Latin rhythms, it was one of the highlights of the event, serving to help catapult the young musical collective to instant stardom. Four decades may have passed [...]
Something about the video for Allison Iraheta's "Friday I'll Be Over U" makes the actual song seem a little less like a Kelly Clarkson leftover from five years ago. Maybe it's the way the clip pays homage to a-ha's classic "Take On Me" vid by employing rotoscoping. Or maybe it's just the fact that Kris Allen and Adam Lambert's latest singles have completely underwhelmed. The short snippets of Allison's forthcoming Just Like You album didn't exactly bust the Wow! scale last week. But as we said then, it could be a grower, [...]
EMI Music, one of the "big four" major labels, became the first label to partner with the web video provider Hulu. Hulu created a channel specifically for EMI artist Norah Jones, and the company says that more exclusive channels for their other artists are on the way. This move seems to be in direct opposition to the new Vevo video service that Sony and Universal are helping to launch, which will provide viewers similarly to Hulu. The Norah Jones Hulu channel provides concert footage, as well as her entire catalog of music videos. There [...]

It's a night of firsts: The first-ever performance by Marvelous Marbles (left, photo by Colin Meney) at the first-ever show held at Bloc 11 in Union Square (Somerville). This blog was born over coffee at Bloc 11 so we have quite a soft spot for the bank-turned-coffee shop. Marvelous Marbles includes two members of One Happy Island and one awesome local music blog comrade. Here's the full roster: Rebecca Mitchell (One Happy Island): vocals, ukulele, stylophone, glockenspiel, percussion Brad San Martin (One Happy Island): vocal, bass, guitar Brad Searles ( [...]

'Tis the season of giving, and today I have another charity project that could use your support. In previous weeks I've written about the Playing For Change project and Funk Aid for Africa . Today I want to share news about a benefit album that just came out today titled Indie Rocks! A Benefit Album For Malaria No More . It's been put together by RED Distribution , and its aim is to raise money for the organization Malaria No More [...]

Somewhere along our last European tour we were in Berlin and our good friend Voitek (spelled Wojchiech, believe it our not) from 3 Channels aka Catz 'n Dogz told us it was time to go to dinner. So to dinner we went, and when we got there we met Jay Shepheard . Jay is from the UK, but recently made the pilgrimage to Berlin along with so many others in search of dance music's holy grail (which we think is actually somewhere in NYC!). Jay is a kick ass DJ and solid producer [...]

After unleashing all that comedy gold on you yesterday, I think I'll keep it low key today. Don't want you to pull a hammy laughing or anything... I always thought that girls who make music (meaning girl producers) were super cool, basically because they combined two of my favorite things... girls and music. Kind of a no-brainer, eh? So, The Angel, aka 60 Channels was a gal from the L.A. scene who made music... so super cool. She did (and apparently still does) Downtempo and Drum [...]

Puddle of Mudd , the Los Angeles quartet known for their hard-rock radio hits, have just released a video for their single "Spaceship." The sci-fi video directed by Petro ( The Academy Is, Rufus Wainwright ) channels the best in space travel with alien strippers and an homage to Star Wars and its scrolling text intro. Rounding out the rockstar antics are the daredevils of Nitro Circus , including Travis Pastrana on his signature [...]

Brodinski - Smokemashine J (Special Mix for Japan) (rapidshare) Brodinski ( who recently 'came out' as Gucci Vump, if you didn't yet know) just dropped a great mix on his blog Smokemashine for you all to enjoy. Alan Fitzpatrick - No Religion 5. Boys Noize [...]

photo source Cuddle Magic - "Expectations" The voice like a trombone solo is back. But the thing you should understand is: there are no actual trombones here. There's a salt of drums, a pepper of strings, a little woodwind and whistle and the guitars that do not let you go. But the trombone thing is a different thing. Remember when you did not know the trombone? Remember when you thought the trombone was just the slide-whistle sound of an ice-cream scoop leaving a cone? [...]

I love driving on the open road. Convertible top down. Wind blowing through my hair . . .er . . . scalp. Whatever. Wind blowing against me, chilling my skin, making me feel alive. With that in mind, I think you can agree that the antithesis of the joyful, freedom abandon of the open road, is being stuck in traffic. And I mean, bumper-to-bumper, flipping-off-the-jerk-who-just -cut-me-off, traffic. So with that thought, today in the Ripple player, I'm only spinning discs that can make anytime on the road a little more joyful and [...]

Many shy away from admitting they enjoy some Duran Duran; the fact they had thousands of teenage girls screaming for them for a few years somehow degrades their pop value (teenage girl fans are apparently credibility-suckers - another argument for another time). As a band, Simon LeBon and Co generally take the flak for the sins of the 80s: excess, commercialist greed, hyperbolic style, etc. I, myself, was a teenager in the 90s when I first heard Duran Duran, and while listening to songs like Planet Earth, Girls on Film, Hungry Like the Wolf, and The Reflex, I became a [...]

I mean, in the Christmas-blogging sense. Those of us who music-blog at Christmas start the day after Thanksgiving. So this is close. As far as that goes, Christmas is in been-here mode at Big Lots, Kroger, CVS, and other sources of Christmas stuff. And I can't believe Big Lots' high prices for its cheap stuff--a new marketing strategy? The less money people have, the more they have to pay for cheap holiday stuff, I guess. Strikes me as an odd policy. Good luck, Lots. Like most people, I love Christmas. [...]
