MP3: Ghostface Killah - Apollo Kids #8 - Ghostface Killah - Supreme Clientele Sony 2000 Matt On Supreme Clientele: The sophomore slump was thrown off Mount Everest on this one. Tony Starks delievered an epic 21 Burroughsesque view of the world barely two months into the decade, and, almost ten years later, the world is still trying to decipher it.

Frank Yang Q: Without a new record to promote - Mr. Love & Justice has been out for close to two years - what reason did Billy Bragg have for staging an ambitious cross-Canada tour ? A: Who cares? Any time you get the opportunity to see Billy Bragg live, you take it, no questions asked. Of course, I say that having missed his last three appearances in Toronto - the September 2006 show at the Music Hall for not one but two weddings, [...]

How Big Star let me down. Look, here's my number one pet peeve in the restaurant business: you do not close your kitchen early. Ever. I've worked in the service industry. I managed a restaurant that was one off the few late night eating destinations in Chicago at the time. Yes, on a slow night the kitchen would start closing up and cleaning everything early, but if we closed at 2 a.m., and someone walked in at 1:59 [...]

St Giles in the Fields, London* Just a quick reminder that Dean & Britta are playing in London for the first time in over two years tomorrow (Wednesday) night. The show takes place at the very lovely St Giles in the Fields church just off Tottenham Court Road. Tickets are £12 and are still available from wegottickets . The promise is that Dean will be raiding the back catalogues of both Galaxie 500 and Luna for this show as well as that of Dean & Britta of course! Support [...]

¿Por qué nadie parece tomarse este disco en serio? Porque es un vacile vale, pero a nadie parece gustarle y es lo más... Que si el "Fishscale", que si el "Supreme Clientele", qué cansinos todos... Por no mencionar ese portadón claro...
Last week, I had the opportunity to chat -- and, by chat, I mean "chat via the Internet" -- with a handful of independent record labels' owners and managers. I wanted to discuss the role of the label in a time when fewer people seem to know or care what labels their favorite musicians or bands are on. Furthermore, and perhaps this has always been true, we may not even know what exactly a label does . At the beginning of this decade, record labels were still a way of indexing artists; of positioning them [...]

Para comemorar o vigésimo aniversário editaram o livro "Our Noise: The Story of Merge Records, The Little Label That Got Big And Stayed Small", com a história da editora, centenas de fotografias das bandas, capas e posters.

In late October Alasdair MacLean , singer-guitarist-composer of the London-based Clientele , crossed the pond for two U.S. appearances—one on WFMU. He was flown transatlantic sans band to promote the new Clientele album, a parlor-pop suite titled Bonfires on the Heath . Bonfires comprises a haunting song cycle graced with falling leaves and foreboding twilight. On his blog, " From Brighton Beach to Santa Monica ," MacLean confesses that his work is shadowed by "mental [...]

I wasn't gonna do this, 'cause I know I'll catch all kinds of shit and lose mad respect just by putting my opinion out here, but here I go anyway. Just to get this out of the way, I have nothing but love for Joe Budden. But he wasn't one of the 10 most important rappers of the decade. With my list, I'm trying to pick the 10 people who I think did the best to move rap forward during this decade. As the 2000s started, many of us thought that rap had seen its [...]

Andy Willsher My trip to London last May yielded no shortage of fond and lasting memories, but one of the most vivid is also one of the most unremarkable and inexplicable. My plan for my first visit to the city was pretty much to pick a particular district or two for each day I was there and just wander - one day, the West End, the next day, Soho, Covent Garden and Westminster, the day after, the East End and Greenwich. Greenwich wasn't a place I had any particular prior affinity for, but I [...]

Band: Megafaun From: Durham, NC Sound: folk-inspired American music that incorporates elements of country/bluegrass, rock, jam band mentality, and sonic exploration Similar Artists: Akron/Family, The Band, Fleet Foxes, Grateful Dead, Bon Iver Listen: "Kaufman's Ballad" Based in Durham, North Carolina, Megafaun was built by brothers Brad and Phil Cook and fellow Eau Claire, Wisconsin native Joe Westerlund. I know this pic has nothing to do with fall; I just liked it. First and foremost the songs on this mix tape really have nothing to do with fall. They are just a compilation of songs I've been enjoying since the leaves started turning. I feel compelled to make this statement because someone will inevitably leave a comment calling bullshit on "Walkabout" being a fall song and demanding that it should be heard under the summer sun. I'm aware of this, but it turns out I also enjoy "Walkabout" in the fall. [...]

Last July, Merge Records celebrated twenty years in the record business. A lot has changed in those twenty years. Tapes were being weeded out by the CD and now future generations will never know what it was like to wait on a Monday night for that ONE release they've been waiting for as dedicated fans. To commemorate this great feat, they held a festival with their artists. Chances are, you probably missed it, but Babelgum was on hand to record the four days of glory. You can check out the many videos, [...]
One of the smarter moves the music industry's made where vinyl is concerned is to realize that those who appreciate the medium also appreciate convenience, which is why we've applauded labels such as Dischord or Merge who've made available a full Mp3 download of a LP with purchase. So, you've got to hand it to FACTORY 25 who taken the medium one step beyond with another unique pairing: DVD and vinyl combos. Quoting their website now, "High and low concept films and music docs have a home at FACTORY 25, the new [...]

On November 6th the Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in Uncasville, CT played host to a rather different set of clientele. In addition to the 21+ crowd the casino normally caters to, on this night the resort was abuzz with thousands of teens who made the trip to this northeast gambling mecca for a chance to see Taking Back Sunday perform live. Performance wise, Taking Back Sunday played a rather entertaining, albeit a bit predictable, set. Although the tour may have been in support of New Again , the band's [...]
In case you didn't know, they're back! The reunited alternative punk band has a bunch of dates worldwide in addition to having their colossal Minotour box set on the brink of release (Nov. 10).
