Not pictured are these other kind performers supporting the effort: Broken River Prophet , Kristin Hersh and Bill Janovitz . We were surprised at how much fun an afternoon indie rock show where everyone brought their kids was. We'd like to see more of that happen, if only because it means we could finally blend kid time and rock club time. The short review is that Colin Clary was endearing, Drew O'Doherty 's playing was mesmerizing and voice as killer as always, and Travels were even better than we had hoped. [...]

SENSE OF COMMUNITY & MUSIC - One of the things I like best about music is the sense of community it helps you amass. I think of the people in my life who have come to me through music - in one way or another - and I truly feel gifted. One of these people is our friend Bradley Searles. Brad is the man behind Bradley's Almanac (an incredible music website) - he and his family recently learned that Brad's wife Amie has Breast Cancer. Anyone who has ever been touched [...]

The few of you who follow my spotify-blog OnTheSpot , which now is twitter-based ( http://www.twitter.com/onthesp otify but also readable on onthespot ) may have seen my 100 track best of 2009 -playlist or this smaller Wimp -version. A lot of my favourites are not on Spotify or Wimp, so here is a plain good [...]
This week is Smittens week at the ol' HHBTM blog. Those cute lovable bubble twee poppers the Smittens are hitting the road this month overseas with their second UK tour and their first tour of Sweden. To kick things off here is the new video for " 100 Roses ". It has been around for a bit, but I wanted to wait till close to the tour kick off. SMITTENS UK TOUR JULY 19th - @ The Head of Steam, Newcastle w/ One Happy Island, Pale Man [...]
Just saw this video posted over on Eardrums , and I noticed right away the re-created scenes from Godard's classic, Breathless , which I just happened to watch for the first time last week, along with a couple of his other films on Netflix. According to Knut, My First Days On Junk includes Colin Clary - who's also serves as guitarist/vocalist for The Smittens . Not a bad tune, very My Bloody Valentine-ish. Though, I must admit, it was the video [...]
New video from My First Days On Junk (with Colin Clary of the Smittens):

The world is twee is one of great regression, where grown men wear Thomas the Tank Engine knitted jumpers and grown women cuddle teddy bears. It's Pee Wee Herman and Sesame Street. I hope I haven't tainted SF Popfest's branding with my yellow monotone. In the ever-growing list of popshows and festivals I will NOT be able to attend this year, the San Francisco Popfest remains one of the few that I'm the most broken up about. The lineup is amazing and who wouldn't want to hang out in San Francisco all weekend??? My hopes and dreams of making it this year are all but washed away, but now that it's back, hopefully the SF Popfest will continue to keep going and I'll be able to [...]
As the weather starts to warm up, my heart goes out to all my friends living in cold places. So, in tribute to them, I've included a good number of bands that rock that come from "the cold lands". It's no new big news that Scandinavia has some of the best up and coming indie artists these days. So, another "big surprise" that there are a few bands from Norway and Sweden. Sorry Flint, nothing from Finland this time! *grins* I've made this weeks Friday Fix a bit larger than usual, dedicated to help those folks coping with [...]

SF Popfest 2009 Living in Blighty has its blessings. Mild (if damp) climate and no major problems with earthquakes and mostly the music scene ain't too bad. However we'd happily swap it all for the heat, hills and faultlines of San Francisco if only to attend this year's wonderful indiepop celebration, Popfest 2009 . Popfest has occurred regularly since 1995 when Magnetic Fields were the then obscure headliners. [...]
I've decided to split the Eardrums releases and the Eardrums blog, so from now on everything related to the Eardrums compilations and all future creative projects will be found on the new EARDRUMS POP website . It's here, - http://www.eardrumspop.com . I will still announce all Eardrums releases here on the blog, but Eardrums Pop will be the place to get them and to get the freshest news about them. (All the [...]

Pete and Pete = Springtime. Right? The Springtime Is Killing Us! Well, not really – to be honest, I'm on spring break right now and the entirety of the week here was dreadful and wet, but today just happens to be the nicest day we've seen so far around here! Now, what's a spring break without a new mix celebrating the (late) arrival of Spring?! Why that's no spring break at all! So, since it's just beginning to turn into spring outside and I haven't made a mix since, well, a while, I made a new [...]
The next weeks will not be very active on "the outside" of Eardrums. There will not be many posts, not much going on at all. There WILL be A LOT happening behind the scenes, and that's the reason for the inactivity on the blog. A new Eardrums compilation is coming soon, – in the end of March, – probably around the 25th. It will be a spring release called "Birdsongs, Beesongs" , and it will feature new songs from a lot of bands, including: BMX Bandits, Hari and Aino, The Starfolk [...]

I am not a music-podcast-loving person, – I am often too restless to sit down and listen through a 60 minute mp3-file without the possibility to skip a track if I want to. I listen a lot to other kinds of podcasts, but music podcasts are not me. Two music podcasts I just HAVE to listen to every time, are Bored to hear your heart still breaks /run by Camila from WeePop!) and Hey Hey Honeypop! (run by Marianthi from Spiral Scratch). The newest podcast [...]

Tender Trap London's first ever offical Popfest will be taking place over four days in Feb/March with oodles of indiepop bands performing across the following four venues: Thursday 26th February – Brixton Jamm Friday 27th February – The Buffalo Bar Saturday 28th February – The Macbeth Monday 1st March – Salmon and Compass The bands confirmed so far include: Colin Clary (of the Smittens [...]

Keeping a bit in the theme of the Wayside Waifs CD , but not really going on so much about it in this post, I thought I would make a few themed posts that could tie in to the project and still bring you some cool Christmas music to boot! There are a couple animal related Christmas songs on my CD..."The Cat Who Controls Christmas," "A Horse Is Not Just for Christmas," and "I Will Hold You Until You Sleep." Of course, Larry Garrett's song "Old Dogs" that finishes off the disc is about dogs, but [...]
It seems almost cruel to rave about something that has now long sold out but with its lovely bound handmade sleeve, this double CD release had to be limited to a mere fifty copies. Featuring rarities and specially recorded tributes by twenty nine bands who have performed at the annual New England festival Popfest over the last five years it's a treasure trove of indiepop jewels, ranging from the lush sweeping dreampop of the Icicles ' Regret to the Smiths doing the Mary Chain fuzzy charms of the Pains of Being Pure At Heart 's [...]
News of a rather fantastic looking indie pop comp has reached SoundsXP. Skipping Stones Records celebrates 5 years of Popfest! New England with a 2-CD boxset, in a limited edition of 50, each one lovingly made by hand and one-of-a-kind. Many tracks are rare, previously unreleased or recorded especially as a Popfest tribute. A full-color, 16 page booklet accompanies the CD, with pictures, memorabilia and reminiscences from bands and attendees. The tracks are: *Disc 1* The Fawns "Snow Day" The Specific Heats "Sit and Cry" Surefire Broadcast "Miles Apart" The Up Set "I'm [...]
