It's not the newest trend in the webiverse. See, for example, Hangin' Out On E Street , the Bruce Springsteen-solicited covers project we noted way back in February of 2009, or The Stand Ins project , which had Bon Iver, The New Pornographers, David Vandervelde, and other indie names taking on the tracks from Okkervil River album The Stand Ins as it was released in 2008. But the songwriter-specific video covers project concept seems to be peaking, with several major collections in process as we speak. Today, we present our [...]

Thursday, December 1, 2011 We're almost to the end! Don't forget that the 50 tracks you'll find this week are all from a pool of nearly 500 tunes I shared throughout 2011. Enjoy. - 20 through 11 - 20) : Phantogram - Don't Move : I've yet to get around to listening to Phantogram's latest EP. That's partly due to me just not having done it yet, but it's mostly because I'm stuck [...]

An old friend from Dr. Dog, Justin Stens, is trying to make a record by traveling on his motorcycle across the country and recording with a few of his famous friends. Our dear friend Drew is also a long for the ride to document the whole thing (we at Static are very proud to be supporting this doc as well on many levels). However, they have hit some road bumps along the way, as I am sure many of us have in these financial times, and they are looking for a little help to finish this project. Here is there [...]

10.13: Netherfriends + Native America + The Jonesbirds - The Saint 10.14: David Vandervelde + Caddywhompus + Carter Tanton - Chickie Wah Wah David Vandervelde was only 20 when he was introduced to ex-Wilco jack-of-all-trades Jay Bennett, who at the time was still putting together a solo career after leaving his former band on less than amicable terms in the aftermath of the Yankee Hotel Foxtrot recording process. Though Bennett was initially signed on for [...]

The Fling's 2010 debut album "When the Madhouses Appear" established the Long Beach quintet as a band that knew its Beatles from its Byrds, and a lot of the animal kingdom in between. The harmony-laden folk rock made by Dustin Lovelis, Graham Lovelis, Justin Ivey, Justin Roeland and Joel Bond expands its scope a bit on the new EP "What I've Seen" (out Nov. 1 on Dangerbird Records), with sharper guitars and bolder textures adding heft to their classic pop sensibilities. ||| Download: After the jump, use the widget to get "Dogpile" [...]

photo by hollis bennett my man david vandervelde is coming to new orleans to play at chickie wah wah on 10.14 along with local boys done good, caddywhompus and carter tanton of lower dens. i, sadly, have never seen vandervelde live, but i hear the guy puts on a helluva show usually pulling out some awesome covers like "cocksucker blues" - one of my favorite songs. his records, are equally as awesome, and cant recommend his 08 release, waiting for the sunrise, enough. pretty sure it was in my top ten from that year. [...]

Tuesday, September 6, 2011 Today's Quick Mention: If you need music tonight, Tim Kasher is playing the Mohawk, and Leatherbag will be at Hole In The Wall. On an unrelated note, a local business called EasyCanvasPrints did me a solid recently, and you should check out some words about it here. I really like David Vandervelde, so it pains me a bit to know that I missed the below single by roughly six eternities (in internet time). Oh well. On [...]

David Vandervelde and Christopher Paul Stelling at Mercury Lounge in New York, NY (August 23, 2011)

Sometimes, as a concert goer, you simply luck into being in the right place at the right time. This was one of those times. When we booked our family vacation back in February, I had no preconceived notions of going to any shows while we were there. I mean, Cape Cod is more known for showcasing bands like Beatlemania (a Beatles cover band) than for being a stop over for top notch indie rock. So earlier this past week, when I learned via Facebook that Deer Tick was [...]

Recommended Show: WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 24, 2011 PEELANDER-Z @ DEATH BY AUDIO 49 S 2nd St Brooklyn, NY 11211 $7, 8PM Seeing a Peelander-Z show is like seeing a comic book come alive before your eyes. The band's punk music is a strange compliment to the colorful live show, but it works in this weird sort of surreal way. Tonight they perform at Death by Audio in Brooklyn. Bebel Gilberto @ City Winery James Chance @ Manhattan Inn Lindbergh Palace @ [...]

Baixe a nova faixa do David Vandervelde , More Than You Can Feel. David é um músico americano, multi instrumentista e já lançou dois álbuns e um EP. O terceiro álbum será Big Lies, ainda sem data para lançamento. Mas já podemos apreciar uma faixa do disco. More Than You Can Feel é rock com bons riffs, na maior estilo Wilco de música. Jay Bennett , mentor e parceiro de David, vai gostar de ouvir isso. MP3: More Than You Can [...]
Common literary and cinematic logic dictates that should the protagonist of the story have a mentor, said mentor will, at some point, be removed from the story. Sadly, as is the case with singer-songwriter David Vandervelde , his story finds him on the verge of releasing his third LP, titled Big Lies, without the guidance of his late mentor and good friend Jay Bennett. As a result, he's offered up the effort as a tribute. The first track to surface is "More Than You Can Feel", which [...]
