'Khattabi' satte for [...]

The Austin City Limits Festival is this weekend, and while it will unfortunately take place minus Merry Swankster representation, there's no reason to sour an otherwise tremendous month of music in the Lone Star State. But just for fun, here's who'd I see if I were making the trip to Austin: Blitzen Trapper, Avett Brothers, the Walkmen, Phoenix, Los Amigos Invisibles, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Deer Tick, the Ravonettes, !!!, Grizzly Bear, Flogging Molly, …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, Bon Iver, Mos Def, the Decemberists, the Dodos, Heartless Bastards, Arctic Monkeys, Dirty Projectors, [...]

DD/MM/YYYY | JellyNYC's Pool Parties | August 16, 2009 Providing a rock and roll set at an otherwise hip-hop day at the Williamsburg Waterfront, DD/MM/YYYY played a pretty fantastic set at JellyNYC's Pool Parties earlier today. We're excited for the upcoming cassette release on Impose Records from the Canadian act, and it was a great preview. Just in case you missed it, the band promised that they'd be back in September, and there are photos after the jump. www.ddmmyyyy.net | www.impose-records.com

Another week, another early week Ten Tracks You Need. This time it wasn't because of email but because of work, they essentially shifted my entire world last week and I had to move, be trained etc. This left little time for music as I was knee deep in learning how to do things. Anyway, if you're lucky you might just get TWO Ten Tracks You Need this week. One today and one on Friday. I'm slowly catching up and hope to be completely caught up by the end of the week. That just means I'll be collecting track [...]

Here are the first 130 or so bands that will be playing at Whartscape in Baltimore this year. Some of The End of Irony's favs will be playing, including Future Islands , Adventure , and Ear Pwr . Tickets are going on sale at noon on Monday, June 29. Though tickets will be sold to individual shows and days, the Mega Pass will be available for all days for $45 (a fantastic deal and to quote Whartscape, "The strength of the mega-pass is truly mega"). Check out whamcity.com for more info or below for the [...]
Chances are, you have never been to a music festival quite like Whartscape. For the past four years, the festival's organizers, Dan Deacon 's Wham City collective, brought together a wildly diverse group of massively talented Baltimore artists - and likeminded souls from across the nation and around the world - together for a long weekend of drunken, sweat-soaked revelry. As someone who nearly passed out (from heat or too much BYO Mad Dog or whatever) in a cavernous warehouse at the 2007 festival, I heartily recommend it. Anyway, part of the deal with Whartscape is that [...]

A little past the last minute, I went to the Mercury Lounge last night to see this show . I got there late. It was a weird vibe. What was up with the really tall dude in the suit? After listening to a couple talk about what it's like living in Murray Hill, I just felt out of place. Who: Real Estate Comment: Missed 'em. Damn. Listen: Black Lake (mp3) Who: Vampire Hands Comment: Missed 'em. I did buy some merch [...]

Destined for greatness? Anja Plaschg just might well be. To produce an album half as good as this would be an achievement. The fact that she is only 18 years old beggars belief. All the songs are written arranged and produced by her, mostly at her home. There's no need to wax lyrical about her. The music speaks for itself. She is as pure an artist as they come. Her music will not be to the taste of all who listen. It's certainly not influenced by the realms of pop or commercial r&b!. I [...]

Though it was discussed a bit in the comments a couple of posts back, I turn your attention to this article on the "new Richard's." "When I walked into the basement I couldn't believe the size of it and the height of the ceilings," Alvaro said. "Immediately, I thought this would make a perfect bathroom lounge..." Alvaro said the new club will likely book some of the same acts as Richard's. "Maybe being a bit more selective with some of the music," he said, "maybe pertaining more to the sort of image we're trying to project." [...]
