The Dollyrots make their game show debut on The Price is Right on Friday, January 15. Although what their appearance entails remains a mystery, High Wire Daze is reporting that The Dollyrots will perform two songs - their new single, "California Beach Boy", as well as "Because I'm Awesome" from my second favorite CD of 2007 , Because I'm Awesome . The band is working on their third album (with some co-writing help from ex-Letters to Cleo singer Kay Hanley ) which they hope [...]
Vampire Weekend's second album, Contra , is the first highly buzzed release of 2010, which adds Latin American music influences to their mix. If you saw the film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's The Road , you know how effective Nick Cave and Warren Ellis's soundtrack was to the movie. The soundtrack is in stores tomorrow. Other albums I can strongly recommend this week are Owen Pallett's final album under the Final Fantasy moniker, Heartland , Laura Veirs' [...]
I've closed the voting for the Coverville Countdown 2009, and I'm tabulating the results right now. Some old favorites on the list, as well as some new independent stuff that I'm really happy to see made the grade. Starting tomorrow, we'll countdown the top 40 on the last four shows of the decade! And as promised, following the break, see the entire list of nominees: Here is the full list of nominees (minus the songs inducted into the Coverville Hall Of Fame ) '19992 - Red Dirt Rangers [orig. So this is Christmas. No no, please don't scurry away, I promise you: no more John Lennon!! OK? Are we friends again? Have you stopped screaming?? Good. I was looking back at my Chrimbo posts from last year and I was struck by how Grinchian and grumpy they were! My goodness, pre-visitation Scrooge had NOTHING on FiL circa December 2008. Much of that was due to circumstances; I shan't go into details, but it was one of those burdensome Yuletides where I knew no matter what happened it [...]
