Brooklyn's Class Actress (once the solo project of singer Elizabeth Harper) debut EP, entitled 'Journal Of Ardency' is out today on Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor Terrible Records. The band pulls from a variety of styles, ranging from the 80's synth pop of Depeche Mode and New Order, the vivaciousness and sexuality of early Madonna, and the bubbly heartbreak of Mazzy Star. Yeah, the track 'Journal Of Ardency' sounds pretty amazing! Class Actress: "Journal of Ardency" [ mp3 ]

First off, this photo set is really great and worth a pass through, compliments in part to Glasslands gallery's new "cloud cover" installation, and in part to the always impressive camera work of Ryan Muir . Bands in post-title listed in order of dominance, although there's no reason to try to try call winners between the morning benders and headliner Class Actress, both of whose sets alone made going out in the hostile cold for the marathon five-band lineup seem like the weekend's smartest decision. the morning benders recently relocated to this neighborhood, and put it on [...]
SIDEWAYS REIGN NOW ON TOUR IN SUPPORT OF 'A STAND FOR ALL AGES' Sideways Reign, based out of Union, Washington, is a band representative of the artistic sensibilities of the masses. They're your local barkeep, the hard-hat wearing construction worker, or the ice cream maker on the corner; on and off stage they remain the approachable, everyday guys you grab a beer with after work. In the same sense, A Stand For All Stages, the band's debut LP, offers something for the broadest of audiences with a genre defying blend of rock, blues, folk, and reggae wrapped in [...]
A sequência inicial com "Careful What You Say", "Journal Of Ardency" e "Let Me Take You Out" deu uma força tremanda pra este Ep, e se lhe resta alguma dúvida da qualidade desta banda, assista o vídeo de "Let Me [...]
There's something extremely decadent about what I'm doing at this very moment: eating strawberries and listening to the liquidy voice of Elizabeth Harper, the songbird from electro-pop trio Class Actress . The Brooklyn band creates the kind of makeout music that's sweet, yet sexy enough for girls to use as their striptease soundtrack for their boyfriends on Valentine's Day. Influenced by early Madonna, but reminiscent of synth-pop 80's bands, Class Actress struts around with their "stalker-pop" sound on "Journal of Ardency" then takes us on a romantic frolic around Harper's dreamy vocals with "Let Me Take You Out." Their [...]

Brooklyn, NY I love everything about you, Elizabeth Harper. "Careful What You Say" Class Actress on MySpace Class Actress on The Hype Machine
hi guys. so. i'm going to file this one under "singer songwriters i was never really into (because that is really, most of the time, not my bag) basically re-inventing themselves into something i like quite a lot." a few years ago Elizabeth Harper was one of these aformentioned singer songwriters. I recall hearing about her here and there, most likely from my friends and fellow bloggers who do really covet the coffee shop corner/living room/rockwood music hall scene more than i particularly do. fast forward to now, and Harper is now lending her vocal and songwriting [...]

Class Actress NY, EUA Myspace Lembra: New Order, Postal Service, Neon Indian, Ouça: "Adolescent Heart" e "Careful What You Say" A atriz de classe que era Elizabeth Harper no início de sua carreira se atinha ao estereótipo de "cantora & compositora" , fazendo o tipo de música que [...]
Last week we brought you the Top 10: New York Bands To Watch In 2010 and everyone seemed to love the list so we thought this week we'd expand it to the rest of the world. Of course there are tons of bands left off this list so feel free to chime in about other bands we should be keeping out eyes on in the comments section. Oh, and really this list only includes 9 bands from outside of New York, we totally brain farted and left a band off from last week's list [...]

It was ladies night at the Highline Ballroom last night, the Chelsea club putting together a bill anchored by relatively longstanding, dreamy keyboard trio Au Revoir Simone, and a launching pad for singer-songwriter Alexa Wilding and the highly promising Class Actress -- a project taking its cues from '80s pop and the sound of its vintage synths, fronted by the memorable presence of Elizabeth Harper's vocals, signed to Chris Taylor's Terrible Records . As Kyle Dean Reinford 's photos show, Au Revoir made it snow -- quite literally -- and as that lead pic captures, ARS [...]

Brooklyn: cesspool of indie creativity and the stomping grounds of a seriously potent pipeline o' talent. Most cities have their day in the musical spotlight and then it moves elsewhere around America, yet Brooklyn could be the focal point of an entire book based on their fixation with remaining in the spotlight. Another outfit jumping from the beloved borough onto my computer and into my ears, Class Actress has my head bobbing. Formerly the solo project of theatre graduate Elizabeth Harper, Class Actress expanded to a trio and further developed their sound into a [...]

As the year winds to an end, we've asked some of our favorite artists to select their five favorite releases of 2009. Class Actress is the brainchild of Brooklyn based artist Elizabeth Harper, and she is poised to breakout in a big way in 2010. Her debut ep Journal of Ardency is scheduled for a February 9th release on Terrible Records, the new offshoot from Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor. If you haven't yet, get the leadoff track "Careful What You Say" below. Harper took time out from her busy schedule to share her [...]

I've long been a fan of conspiracy theories, both the plausible ones and the totally whacked out ones, in fact the more whacked out ones are the best. With the spread of the internet as a means of disseminating information, these theories have grown in popularity. With that in mind, I'd like to go over some of the ones that made the most headlines (or didn't make the headlines, 'cause y'know … "they" control what we see … and by "they," I mean the evil lizard visitors from that TV show V) So pop in the new Muse album or [...]
Last night I headed out in the blizzard to go to see Phantogram for free at Brooklyn Bowl. I have to admit, I was surprised to see how many people showed up despite the weather. It was pretty packed. Opening for Phantogram was Class Actress, locals to Brooklyn. They were very stylish and fun. Very much '80s influenced with their airy synths. The lead singer, Elizabeth Harper, was really high

It's award season! Can you feel it in the air? The Golden Globe nominations are already creating Oscar predictions, Ryan Seacrest is polishing his lifts and red carpets are being shampooed into a glory befitting of Angelina Jolies pumps. The Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominees were announced today and basically the SAG awards are actors patting each other on the back. Regardless, it's a chance to flaunt fashionable creations and I hate to equate it to the prom, but that is pretty much what it is. I am pulling for Meryl Streep for her performance in "Julie [...]
I'm so excited to have my hands on a new electro-pop ground fronted by Elizabeth Harper aka Class Actress . Fans of Glass Candy , Fan Death , and anything that Italians Do It Better puts out will love this. She's got a beautiful low-key voice and the band sure do love their slick bass against ethereal synths. I love the emotion in this song both vocally and lyrically . But don't let me sway you, the EP's juxtaposed simple yet complex lyrics with feel good, driving [...]
Class Actress - "Careful What You Say" Class Actress has been on my radar for quite some time, so needless to say, I'm very excited to be sharing this song with you! Originally consisting of main songstress Elizabeth Harper, Class Actress is now a full fledged trio providing us with some electro/new wave beats that easily compliment Elizabeth's dreamy vocals. Cited as an influence to Brooklyn neighbor Chairlift, Class Actress sound a bit more accessible, focused and genuinely influenced by the 80s, which you really hear in the synth parts. Do yourself a favor and head [...]
