Death Cab For Cutie forsangeren Ben Gibbards hyggeprojekt The Postal Service rendte med 2. pladsen, blandt andet foran to [...]
Welcome to day two of my favorite albums of the aughts. I should remind everyone that these are MY favorite albums of the past decade, which coincidentally means they might not be the same as yours. Compiling this list was an arduous task and honestly it could be different every single day depending on my mood. It just so happens that this is the final product of months of work and is what goes out on the internets for everyone to see. Anyways I hope you enjoy and maybe even stumble upon something you haven't heard in awhile. [...]

For ramblings on how I came to compile this list go here . And for commentary on previous selections: [ #50-46 ] [ #45-41 ] [ #40-36 ] 35. Ys - Joanna Newsom (2006) I get an amazing number of hits to my site from people googling the phrase " I Hate Joanna Newsom ", simply because the word ' hate ' is in the title of this here blog, and I've talked about Ms Newsom [...]

I first heard Holly Miranda a little over a year and a half ago when she did a cover of the late Elliott Smith's "Between The Bars" with another great vocalist, Scott Matthews. She has a wide range of vocal ability, from her highs to her lows that can be best explained by watching the video yourself. It gave and still continues to give me goosebumps and is simply wonderful and is as good, if not better, than the original Elliott Smith song. Here is the link to the video via Youtube.com ( Holly Miranda and Scott Matthews - Between [...]

GorillavsBear has a great new single from Baltimore's own Beach House . I wouldn't say i'm a super-fan of their previous albums, but always enjoyed them if the mood was right; that said, this sounds great...something i could (and will) listen to on repeat quite often. Can't wait for the new album to come out (jan. 26th). I've been really digging this band Sleigh Bells (along with the rest of blog-land) and Pretty Much Amazing has a thorough post on them with a good number of MP3's. Think: guitars of Yeah Yeah [...]
neil mcsweeney plies his trade in territory that's been radio blighted by every guitar wielding blubbering hormonal sac with a plastic soul to bare, with blanditudes proffered to soft-faced men in shiny cars and bleary-eyed women drinking wine alone in over-decorated apartments. territory that once encompassed a buncha folks from sam cooke to hank williams to bob dylan to tom waits - fella's (and fellettes) that strap on a six string or piano and bash out an honest to god song – now reduced to the sad bit in hollyoaks or the credits montage at the end of some sporting [...]

Kevin Devine is planning a new Christmas-themed single, with no less than nine different physical versions. They explained: To celebrate Kevin Devine's forthcoming appearance on the annual BSM Christmas Tour - and, of course, the fast-approaching festive season - we're re-releasing 'Splitting Up Christmas', a song originally taken from Kevin's 2003 album, 'Make The Clocks Move'. The single will be available as a free MP3 download and [in] nine different CD versions. Each CD will be limited to just 25 copies, available for one night only and feature a different b-side, hand-numbered and signed by Kevin. [...]

After meeting Will Stratton you have to hope that the old saying, "nice guys finish last", is complete and utter garbage. Stratton is the very definition of nice, a cordial young fellow willing to talk to any and all who approach him after a show and it helps that his music is so easy to fall for. With his subtle voice and terrific guitar strumming, Stratton has begun to establish himself as a singer/songwriter for a new generation of indie fans. Earlier this summer we saw Stratton perform acoustic in Prospect Park and it [...]
Last week, I had the opportunity to chat -- and, by chat, I mean "chat via the Internet" -- with a handful of independent record labels' owners and managers. I wanted to discuss the role of the label in a time when fewer people seem to know or care what labels their favorite musicians or bands are on. Furthermore, and perhaps this has always been true, we may not even know what exactly a label does . At the beginning of this decade, record labels were still a way of indexing artists; of positioning them [...]
![Shufflin Cross Country, Day 1 Mix [SFO to SLC]](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2125958_lg.jpg)
Day 1 is complete. Here are the songs the popped up on the iPod on Day 1 of my cross country move (while I was tracking them). This is also why I love using shuffle. I wouldn't have picked out most of these if I were building a playlist from scratch. Wilco - Monday Stephen Malkmus - Gardenia Marah - Wild West Love Song Rolling Stones - Dead Flowers Gogol Bordello - Immigrant Punk Arctic Monkeys - Cornerstone The Beatles - Don't Ever Change Alela Diane - White As Diamonds [...]

Well, boys and ghouls, we are in week three and still running strong with our newest feature here at SubEx. Many thanks to Danny Balis and Taylor Young for contributing so far. Together, we are bringing the world closer together one list at a time! Umm... Did someone say "world peace"? That's right. You heard it here first, world. This week's Guestlist comes from Dallas' own singer/songwriter Madison King. An eccentric, like myself... or Professor Dumbledore, per say... King can light up even the darkest part of the universe with a [...]

I can't believe another 2 months have gone by since I last updated! Not that anyone cares but I've moved AGAIN, hopefully I don't have to move for a while. The end of the year is rapidly approaching, hopefully I can get in a few more posts before the year ends, who knows if any of them will have any substance, but they will have covers. Here are Five covers of "Thirteen" by Big Star for Friday the 13th. [...]

It was all too easy to miss Will Stratton in 2007, as I found recently. I hadn't heard a thing about the guy before a couple weeks ago when I had the opportunity to listen to his superb sophomore effort - No Wonder . Being impressed, I tracked down his 07 debut - What the Night Said (which was - astonishingly - recorded just after his senior year in high school) - and then wondered why much more hadn't been said about this talented singer/songwriter over the past couple years. It's easy to name-drop just about everyone [...]

Prepare yourself. Super producer/genius Jon Brion is probably going to work with Of Montreal on their Skeletal Lamping follow-up. This came to the music world's attention via the band's twitter page where the following message was posted: Just had a rad meeting with sir jon brion.looks like were gonna work together on the new album! Dreams do come true:•) I feel like someone just dunked my head in cold water and if this goes down, I'm going to lose it. I love Jon Brion [...]
