Bodies of Work: Flyers Bodies of London formed in London in 2008. Since that type they released their debut single "Better Sorry Than Safe" and now their debut EP Flyers . The band's sound is a mixture of new wave and post-punk. Their synthesizer parts are reminiscent of Hot Fuss -era the Killers but the vocals are more similar to the Bravery . What gives the music a memorable quality are the backing vocals by keyboardist Lizzie Holdforth; when the male/female vocals are at their best they remind me of [...]

Move over JLS - Nicole Jane set to Gatecrash the party with smash "Is It Me" "A beautiful track" - Dev, BBC Radio One "I listen to Is It Me and all I can do is smile" - Hattie Collins, The Observer "Is It Me is getting the biggest response in clubs by MILES. After my last post about the band The Berndt have entrusted me with an exclusive from their upcoming album. That record will be called CBGBG and is due out January 27. "Hurried Feathers" practically throbs and pulses with energy which is fitting from a band that loves doing live shows and getting folks up and dancing. The Berndt has gone the modern route by posting videos of the recording process, photos, and a diary so check out their website for more info about the new record. [...]

I can honestly say I'm a fan of pretty much everything Emily Haines has done so far, musically. There is Metric of course, and there is her solo stuff, but there's also - let's not forget - her many wonderful collaborations. Some, like " Anthems for a 17-year Old Girl ", seem to be universally loved while others, like " Stopwatch Hearts " or " Uptown Girl ", are less well known. From her songs with Stars and The Stills, to her involvement in Crystal Method and even Tiesto projects - it seems that this is one musician who cannot [...]
by john ziegler Blood Feathers is a band from Philly. They're tough dudes. They like rock music and rhythm and blues and that boogie woogie shuggie shuggie and catfish and pie a whole lot. They drink plenty sweet tea, whatever that means, and they once set a piano on fire. Not many folks know them because they cut one Dixie-dynamite sumbuck of a record a few years ago called Curse and Praise [...]

If you're shut out out of the sold-out Them Crooked Vultures show at the Wiltern tonight, there's still plenty of rock music to be consumed: There's a power-packed local bill at the Roxy, with the Outline , Voxhaul Broadcast , Eastern Conference Champions [pictured], Links and Nova Nueva ... It's a big Haden-fest at Disney Hall , where patriarch Charlie will be joined by family and friends (and special guest Jack Black) for a night of country and bluegrass music. ... Lots of pretty folk music on tap at [...]

The holidays are just around the corner. No, really, I'm not messing with you. It's Thanksgiving in just nine days! (please don't try to email me on Black Friday, I'll be passed out in a pile of gravy). So that also means it's time to bust out all your favorite Xmas and Hanukkah sweaters and get ready to rock out with your cello out. For the second straight year, the Portland Cello Project—you might have seen its lively tour blog around these parts—is hosting a big ol' holiday bash. Only instead of an awkward gathering of relatives, this [...]

Drums Play Spaceland Monday Night (and It's Free) Ray Davies put on a fantastic show on Saturday night at the Orpheum. If you get a chance to see him on this tour do not hesitate. More on that later. Another great week this week. If you're into buzz bands you might want to check out Drums tonight, The Big Pink on Wednesday, Tape Deck Mountain on Thursday, Neon Indian on Friday and The XX on Saturday. Some of those will be good, but I'm recommending a variety of [...]

Dave Rawlings Machine: A Friend of a Friend is the solo debut of longtime Gillian Welch sideman Dave Rawlings , and may be the finest folk album I have heard all year. Author Rick Moody's band, the Wingdale Community Singers releases Spirit Duplicator tomorrow. Reissues of note include David Bowie's Space Oddity (with bonus CD) and The Fall's Hex Enduction Hour (with bonus CD). Four Blood Brothers [...]

There's a few bands these days that I'm truly pumped to hear more from. One of them is New York's Dinosaur Feathers. Earlier this year I posted about them regarding their first... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]
