Since 6:47 AM EST this morning, when Phoenix became the first band to confirm its participation for Bonnaroo 2010 , we have been glued to our computers (literally), waiting the rest of this year's act to take similar action. And while it proved incredibly tedious, maddening, and downright inane (at least for those who endured the 14+ hour affair), in the end, the Manchester, TN festival got what it wanted - attention and lots of it. As for the end result of said attention? An initial lineup announcement headed by Jay-Z, Stevie Wonder, Dave Matthews [...]

Frank Yang If I'm being totally honest, I wasn't that excited for last night's Magnetic Fields show at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. After all, their last few records didn't especially bowl me over and I was feeling somewhat pessimistic about what to expect from a performer who's very much on record as being disdainful of the entire phenomenon of live performance. I had seen them before at their last visit to Toronto in July 2004 and while my memories of that show are fond, I couldn't say it was an especially [...]
Our Toronto based guest blogger, Jordon Chiarelli, shares his review. Did you know that in the Canadian Governmental hierarchy, the Prime Minister is actually third in line? In fact, it is actually the Queen of England who legitimately sits as top ranked head of state (or province) - she even has her mug on all [...]

The Magnetic Fields' newest album, released Jan. 26 on Nonesuch, is a wide-reaching panorama of mystical folk, cerebral hootenanny and lyrical mastery that rides the spectrum from heartache to the spastic imagination of childhood. Strangely enough, the album is titled Realism . It's hard to articulate Stephin Merritt's wonderful capacity for adaptation and renewal. But if you had to encapsulate the philosophy of "Realism" in two lines, it would most likely be a couplet from the album's first track: [...]

Skybox are a local Chicago indie pop outfit comprised of Tim Ellis and Christian Fields, Mike Holtz and Dan Ingenthron. They've made a name for themselves with outlandish live shows and toured in support of artists like Ben Folds, Tilly and The Wall, Tally Hall and The Figurines. Most of our sessions (and content) are admittedly skewed to folk, America and alt-country, but I've spent two weeks visiting and revisiting Skybox's recent release, Morning After Cuts . Unlike our discussion about Midlake yesterday , Skybox keeps you on your toes and varies their sound from one [...]

OH-oo-Oh-oo-Oh We all know how catchy single syllables repeated can be when used in a song. But for Wild Beasts , 'catchy' doesn't do justice to what their dulcet vocals crooning "Oh-oo-oh-oo-ohhhh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh" does in this lengthily named 'We Still Got The Taste Dancin' On Our Tongues'. I gotta say, for some reason the video makes me giggle a little bit, with it's four horizontal protangonists floating into the snow and fields and sky; and the noble steed running in slow motion and all... Don't get me wrong, [...]
![[Recordings] Coast to Coast AM with Art Bell – 1.29.10 and 1.31.10](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2321144_lg.jpg)
Art Bell appeared on Coast to Coast twice last weekend, and I recorded as much as I could to continue with my unofficial project archiving Art's scant appearances. Most of Friday's program (with the total badass theoretical physicist Michio Kaku), save for the first hour because I was out, bro, is below in two parts, as well as most of Sunday's in one part. As a quick caveat, the audio quality on Friday's show is total garbage, and I have no idea why this time. No storms interfering with reception, radio was in working order, [...]
Saw this trailer over the weekend and was genuinely surprised to find out that this documentary about the very private songwriter - or most dubiously known as "the most miserable man in rock" - has been in the works for nearly ten years. Directed by Kerthy Fix and Gail O'Hara, the film seems to primarily focus on the period of Merritt's time between the releases of 69 Love Songs (1999) and Distortion (2008). From the many horror stories I've heard/read in regards to most interviews with The Magnetic Fields [...]
Caged Baby take on Editors with their reworking of the band's current single You Don't Know Love . The remix officially appears as part of a UK digital single bundle and will also appear on the upcoming UK CD single for the track. So I've been sitting on Laurent Bourque 's impressive debut CD for a few months now, trying to come up with the right way to describe it without making it sound like it's a bit on the dull side. You could slide it into the singer/songwriter genre, but that makes it sound boring. You could say it's a rock album, but that conjures up images of bar bands and classic rock, and that's not doing it justice either. And it's certainly hooky enough to be called a pop album, but the sounds are a tad too organic for it [...]
