Having my blog has introduced me to tons of bands. Sometimes if I am lucky enough, I have been able to become friends with members of bands. It is like a dream come true to chat it out with real artists!! One band that I have stayed in close contact with is Local Natives . I have been addicted to their beautiful tunes every since I received my first email about them. It's all history since then! I couldn't just be there friend though; it was time to do some professional blogging! Matt Frazier, the drummer of [...]
Time for a little underground producer special up in here! First up: Jammer ft. Toddla T. To say that I loved 'Party Animal' with my full body, heart and soul would be to tell a big fat lie. I like the production by Toddla, good energy and works well to dance to, not that crazy bout the girl thou. No no no. Her voice annoys the hell outta me. But with remixes coming from Skepta and Hardhouse Banton, this is just the first small step which will lead up to the release of [...]
I guess I'm just a stubborn kind of fellow. I know that our focus tends to be on Brit-pop and Indie-rock, but I just can't help myself from asking you to free your mind. I remember growing up in Detroit, listening to the Canadian national radio station (CBC) and learning about "new wave/punk". They had a show called Brave New Waves and it aired from midnight to 4am, Monday thru Friday. Whenever anyone disparages Canadian music, I tell them that the entire base of my music knowledge starts with this Canadian radio show. Much to [...]

Forgive me Blogger, for I have sinned. I know I've dismissed, unfairly at times, a lot of music in the past few months--I can't help it, it's in my nature. I also know that I've failed to write about the small amount of music I actually have liked--surely no way for a hobbyist critic with delusions of grandeur to act. So here, without further ado, are some reviews... Mew--No More Stories... Mew have always been a prog rock group--I don't think anybody will dispute that. [...]

Iceland is a curious place, that's for sure. They're not a country with a huge population, yet we seem to have a fair number of noteworthy artists coming from there, be it a Bjork or a Sigur Ros. The best part is that there's very little you might call "traditional" about these artists - they don't seem particularly concerned with adapting to musical trends or even creating music that's less than innovative. I've not yet heard a plain-sounding artist that has come from Iceland. I'm mostly convinced that it has almost everything to do with living in a country of [...]

Billie Carlton A young pretty actress called Billie Carlton had a starring role on stage at the huge Victory Ball held at the Albert Hall on 28th November 1918. Tatler had a few months previously described one of her appearances on a London stage, saying that she had: 'cleverness, temperament and charm. Not enough of the first, and perhaps too much of the latter.' While one newspaper described her appearance at the ball: It seemed that every man there wished to dance with her. Her costume was extraordinary and daring [...]
fools gold - surprise hotel [from prefix mag: Fool's Gold, the side project of Foreign Born hombre numero uno Lewis Pesacov, has too many things going for it to keep it as a side project for long. For one, Fool's Gold are all about Afro-pop, which, as anyone with an RSS full of remixes that can only be described as "tropical" can tell you, is hot shit right now. Second, they have a guy (Luke Top) who sings in Hebrew throughout most of the album. Hebrew! Can you believe it? Fool's Gold is the only band that [...]

Warpaint is a Los Angeles band made up of three girls who all sing together, and they all do it so well. They were first on our radar when we discovered they were opening a few dates for Foreign Born , who is another L.A. band we dig. With only a 6 song EP to their name, we can't wait to hear more from this trio. Check out the video for their dreamy pop "Stars" ( via ). The band will be making a stop here at Emo's in [...]
Lewis Pesacov (Foreign Born) and Luke Top make up the core of Fool's Gold, a Los Angeles-based music collective that blends various world-music influences with good ol' American rock 'n' roll. African beats, Far Eastern hooks and Yiddish vocals bathed in California sunshine and electric guitars—this may be the West Coast's answer to Vampire Weekend. [...]

Sometimes clothes are more than a fashion statement. Sometimes music is more than just what it sounds like. Papa Wemba is that sometimes. I am from New Orleans. I do not speak French., nor Lingala, nor any of the other Congo languages. But I have drummed and danced in Congo Square. So while I do not know, I understand. You feel me? Sometimes our resistance seems like foolishness. Our affirmations seem bizarre. Our humanity seems unnatural. When you are born poor and African (which too often is one and the same), every minute of your life [...]

I arrived at the Moore Theatre last night just in time to get my Will Call tickets right when the doors opened, thankfully – since it was one of the rainiest days of the year in Seattle, which is saying a lot. I stood out in the lobby for a bit before they opened the doors for us to find our seats. I – along with a few other people – trickled into the old theater through the corridors myself in the box seats, the others spread around within the theater. A few guys came and sat in [...]
