Plumerai- "Electrical Mess" [ download ] When people think of things that count as "electric," they most often will think of wires, machinery, computers and other man-made structures. One thing we don't often rememeber is that electricity occurs naturally, in the sky. Plumerai's "Electrical Mess" is reminiscent of such a storm, all murky and swirling but at the same same illuminated by its own [...]

This has been a long time coming, but today I've got 2 CDs worth of amazing summer music. The first disc is more folk based in keeping with last summer's mix , with the second less folky but just as perfect for the summer afternoons in the sunshine. We have a few of the bands that were on the last mix popping up again, but most on here have not been featured on TBW before. As I've been out of the game for a while, some of these have been around for a few months, and then [...]

I guess this could be considered weekend housecleaning. A few nice folks who listen in on Little Radio every Friday morning have gently reminded me that I've been amiss in posting the Buzz Bands show playlists. (Which, in a manner of speaking, are also the answer to the question I'm most frequently asked: "So, what are you listening to these days?") The hard-workin' Little Radio folks are a little behind in posting the podcasts for these shows, but, after the jump, you'll find the recent recap. Thanks for caring. [...]

In the ABC TV show "Cupid" the episode "Left Of The Dial" is all about a DJ with musical taste looking for love. First, they mentioned and played Future Clouds and Radar song and had Robert Harrison on the show performing (albeit lip synced ) and in the background of a radio station that one of the characters worked at was a poster for Jim Boggia's "Misadventures In Stereo." It was weird hearing the phrase "power pop" sprinkled around the dialogue. Even The Raspberries and Uncle Tupelo were mentioned too. Ended with the poppiest song The [...]

Whereas Thursday started pretty slow and ended much better, Friday was very much the opposite - it started incredibly (back-to-back sets by The Wrens and The Rural Alberta Advantage ) and ended with a very unenjoyable experience with the crowd at the Future Clouds and Radar set. What happened with FC&R? Well, for some reason they got scheduled to play at Wave, which is a pretty cheesy, "island inspired" bar on 6th Street. If you've been to New Orleans, think along the lines of Tropical Isle, but not as [...]

On Friday night, Consequence of Sound celebrated its first annual official South by Southwest official showcase at the Wave. There were gripping rhymes and smashed cellos, empowering melodies and saw playing chords. But you can read all about that here ; we're letting the pictures do the talking in this post. So without further ado, this was CoS' official showcase... Shad: [...]

Before packing our bags and heading back to the day-to-day grind that is real life, we were able to take in a couple more days of fun in the sun/overwhelming amounts of music/drunken record executives. Without further ado, the conclusion of our South by Southwest 2009 coverage: Friday, March 20th: It's hard to cover Friday without sounding self-aggrandizing, so bear with us. Truth be told, CoS had too much going on to really reach out to anything else. With our Brodown Hoedown party taking up the majority of [...]
Killing some time in the Continental airport lounge before flying home and enjoying my first real WiFi access in days. Since I'm still pretty psyched that I hit band 100 last night (in fact, band 103), I figured I'd quickly go over the bands I've seen this month (so far). And, yeah, I think I'm going for 110 now, as I drunkenly mentioned on Twitter a couple days ago. I'll have one or more in-depth posts about the 100 band challenge, and SXSW, in the coming days. For now, here's a list of the [...]

Just because we're down in Austin, doesn't mean we'd forget about you - or your weekly mp3 fix. Below, we've compiled a special SXSW mixtape, chock full of goodies we think are pretty damn, well, neat. Of course, it wouldn't be a CoS influenced mixtape if it didn't have our personal favorites *ahem* who happen to play in our showcase *ahem*. That's not to say there aren't a few other artists outside our proverbial reach/influence, so take what you will. Also, we threw in a baker's dozen (and more!) of new singles, remixes, etc. Oh how we spoil [...]

In just over 36 hours I will be in Austin, Tejas for my first SXSW Music Festival. I may be a bit disoriented from my way early AM flight, blinking the bright Texas sunlight. I'll be planning my musical attack, my strategy for eating BBQ and pacing my drinks. Marathon, not sprint, etc etc. I was up til past 1 last night trying to scrap together some loose semblance of a schedule of bands I would be interested in seeing. Here are five brand new ones that I've not written about before, but that my preliminary scientific midnight [...]

On Friday, March 20, 2009, Consequence of Sound will host its first annual South by Southwest showcase. Entitled simply as Listen! , this year's event is designed to highlight six of music's most talented up-and-comers in one night, under one roof. In the days leading up to the event, we'll be taking a closer look at these acts… Texas musicians often find themselves cursed-or blessed, depending on how you look at it-with a cultural ambiguity surrounding their sound. Because Texas isn't quite southern and it's not quite western, and [...]
