![Elucid "Cheap Suit" Cover [preview]](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2127232_lg.jpg)
Gomez previewed his original artwork for the "Cheap Suit" single cover ("Cheap Suit" is taken from Elucid 's The Sub Bass Diet ). I'm not sure when the single drops, but from what Gutta was telling me, the B-side is a sick track.
As if the first part of 2010 wasn't already overfilling with high-profile indie releases, Scotland's Frightened Rabbit has returned, following 2008's The Midnight Organ Fight , with plans for its third full-length effort. It's titled The Winter of Mixed Drinks and promises to showcase a more fully realized Frightened Rabbit sound (as if that was even possible!). 'We've broadened our horizons sonically and it feels like a natural move forward," explains lead singer Scott Hutchison. "Most importantly, it's better than the last one. That's all I wanted, really." Again, [...]

Pitchfork posted a few days ago about a horse named Radiohead that will be racing in today's Breeder's Cup Juvenile race . We'll I was out at the races and decided to find Radiohead (the horse) and throw a few dollars (2) on the long shot. I like my chances. Radiohead is a 15-1 underdog in the 5th race. That's a pic of the (soon to be) winning ticket and the racing form is below. Millionaires Row, here I come! UPDATE: I lost.... BREEDERS' CUP JUVENILE RESULTS Santa Anita Park, Saturday, November 7 [...]

Nor much of a writer either. I've spent a couple of days trying, and failing, to figure out the best way to write about what was a wonderful weekend. I've given up. And decided to let my handy little point and shoot, which spent the weekend in my pocket, tell you instead. Friday: Boy Z came to 'work' with me. On the bus. The bus, apparently, was the best part of the trip. I'm pretty sure he was convinced that I worked as a bus driver, [...]

Nick Cave put his own spin on the oft recorded story about Lee "Stag Lee" Shelton, and called his take "Stagger Lee", on the classic 1996 album Murder Ballads . I say "his take" because other recordings have various versions of the name (and details) likely due to the story spreading across the US orally in the late 1800's (Stagolee, Stack O' Lee, Stackerlee, Stackoo Lee, Stack O' Dollars, etc. are some of the examples used by artists over the years). After listening to quite a few versions of this story in song, [...]
Whoa, it took me the majority of today to get situated, sorry about that. Hey, what's up with this Olivia Newton John version of "If Not For You" smoking the Dylan original and the cover by Harrison ? Craziness. Anyways, I was really pleased that I found this 45 at Recycled recently. Also, this is much better than a lot of similar sounding yet modern, lightweight indie pop. Listen for the great solo that is way too high in the mix around the 1:37 mark. Olivia's terrible gyrations along to [...]

Taken from the lovely folk at NME (yes really, it's like they control all our music press *snark*)... "Frightened Rabbit's third album, The Winter of Mixed Drinks, released on March 1, will include the following tracks: ' Things' 'Swim Until You Can't See Land' The Loneliness & The Scream' 'The Wrestle' 'Skip The Youth' 'Nothing Like You' 'Man/Bag Of Sand' 'Foot Shooter' 'Not Miserable' 'Living In Colour' [...]

This week has been a grueling battle over sleep. On one side, two exhausted parents. On the other, two young boys to whom going to bed is tantamount to defeat. More than once during the hostilities, both Dr. O'C and I have daydreamed about the halcyon days before we had kids. The quiet, the leisurely Sunday mornings, the nights out. The quiet. All of these are things of the past. I can probably count on all my extremities the number of times Dr. O'C and I have been out on our own in the evening since we moved [...]

I'm finally starting to get the odd smile from this young fellow. And vice versa. I feel like we're starting to make friends. Time is tight as the semester comes roaring to an end and I've used up all my blogging time talking shit over at The Greenists . Quite literally. Enjoy . I hope to be back toward the end of the week with a real post. There's a lot to talk about - a rather large cocktail party , a grown up night out with Gomez and my new [...]

Teen Disney star Selena Gomez has been attached to star in the upcoming film, What Boys Want, which " centers on a teenage girl who can hear what men are thinking." Hmm, why does this title and summary sound so familiar? Oh right. Because it's a total rip-off. Why why why can't anyone come up with an original idea anymore? Or at the very least, make [...]
Contrary to popular assumption, there was life before Nevermind . It consisted of a meagre $606.17 recording budget, and a rough, raging, rebellious statement of intent. It's the album that was initially regarded as an amateurish, coarse precursor to what is a seminal popularisation of the Seattle grunge movement. Now, twenty years on and with the benefit of hindsight, Bleach is a fundamental foundation stone, a determining monster of an album in its own right. Re-mastered by original producer Jack Endino, the godfather of grunge, rather than compromising the unrefined, raw noise of [...]

Catch them at: Saturday 7th November 2009 - Aldershot West End Centre Monday 9th November 2009 - Oxford Academy 2 Tuesday 10th November 2009 [...]

Darling New Neighbors: Rocket The people of Austin, TX are lucky to count Darling New Neighbors as one of their children. The trio are an interesting sound of mixed genres, sometimes even in one song, brought together by their love of music. I could hope for nothing more from the recipe of "a classically trained violinist with roots in the Dirty South", a "bluegrasser with a heart of rock and roll", and a drummer "who teaches the children with an actual music degree". Elizabeth Jackson, Amy Moreland, and new bandmate Karl Lundin rock out to the effect of [...]
If the saying is true that the 'unexamined life is not worth living,' then it certainly can be said that the unexamined blog's not worth reading. Or something like that, right? I was pleasantly surprised last week upon taking note of the fact that TVD's closing in on 1,000 posts. ONE THOUSAND. (That's a whole lotta red wine.) But seriously, it's an odd achievement in hindsight. Where did all of this come from? How was all of this cobbled together? I mean, I KNOW...I was there and wrote the stuff alongside [...]
