Originally inspired by the Bowlie Weekender with Belle and Sebastian in 1999, All Tomorrow's Parties has turned into something of a global phenomenon - albeit in a cult-ish sort of way, an experience like no other, and now an experience that has made it on to the silver screen with ATP: The Film. Those interested in ATP tend to be so in a very dedicated fashion and as such, much of the material in this film has been compiled using footage taken by over 200 musicians, fans and filmmakers; leaving the lucky editor with about 600 hours to sift through [...]

Nick Cave's second novel, The Death of Bunny Monroe, was released in an innovative format, and was somehow completed despite his busy schedule with the Bad Seeds, Grinderman, and his burgeoning soundtrack and screenwriting career. Now, the novel has caught the attention of the annual Bad Sex Award committee, which is presented by the Literary Review magazine. The award is presented for "redundant passages of sexual description," and Cave is joined in the list by some impressive company—Philip Roth and Paul Theroux have both been nominated. "Frankly, we [...]

Recently took in the well-conceived All Tomorrow's Parties documentary- a film incorporating Super8, camcorder and mobile phone footage contributed by filmmakers, fans and musicians from the cult festival's history with major contributions from Jonathan Caouette and Vincent Moon. Featured in the film are performances from Battles, Sonic Youth, Belle And Sebastian, Patti Smith, Animal Collective, Grinderman, Iggy and the Stooges, Portishead, Mogwai, Slint, Grizzly Bear, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Gossip, Daniel Johnston and The Boredoms. The ATP festival is unique for its band and fan curated lineups, lack of corporate sponsorships, and country club [...]

Nick Cave and Warren Ellis have been creating music together for more than fifteen years with The Bad Seeds, Grinderman and The Dirty Three. In addition, they have collaborated on soundtracks for The Proposition (2005) and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007), and released White Lunar, a two CD set (2009) featuring music from the aforementioned films along with rare and previously unavailable material. The duo will release their soundtrack to The Road , a new movie directed by John Hillcoat, through Mute on January 12, 2010. [...]

For all you Nick Cave fans out there, I've got two Caveities to share with you. One to read, one to listen to. The first is something for your nightstand: The Death Of Bunny Munro . It's the second novel by Cave, and came out in September. For those of who familiar with Cave, this novel is everything you'd expect from his twisted mind and so much more. It opens with: "I am damned, thinks Bunny Munro in a sudden moment [...]

Ahh, it's good to be a city girl. What with all this Woodstock hoopla and nostalgia behind us, it's refreshing to know that a documentary about a current music festival that actively (and non-corporately) pursues creativity is getting its day in the sun, and if you live in one of the cities above, you get an early peek at its documentary! All Tomorrow's Parties is a patchwork production made up of mobile phone, Super 8 and camcorder footage from 200+ fans, musicians and filmmakers over the course of the festival's more recent years, both in Europe and the [...]

Yesterday we revealed details of how lucky MOKB readers could win signed copies of Nick Cave's new novel, The Death of Bunny Munro , simply by sending us either pictures of their sleazy uncles, or family pictures incorporating Uncle Nick. We've had some awesome entries, both of Nick-infused photos and just simply sleazy uncles , but I still felt it was necessary to 1.) Lift the veil of shame surrounding this contest, and 2.) Raise the bar; you know, really challenge the readers. With that end in mind, I now [...]
2009 is shaping up to be a particularly productive year for Nick Cave . Between the celebrated release of his second novel, The Death of Bunny Munro , as well as the double-disc instrumental collection White Lunar , I'm amazed Cave has any time for himself, let alone to focus on the next proper Bad Seeds release. I certainly envy the man's productivity, but it doesn't stop there. In 2007, while on tour with Grinderman , Cave lent his voice to an animated short by Eddie White and Ari Gibson . Two [...]

Anyone who witnessed the drooling mass of sub-humanity that was Nick Cave onstage with The Birthday Party back in the early 80s would have been hard pressed to imagine the singer living to see the next sunrise, much less becoming one of the elder statesmen of popular music. And yet, going on 30 years later, Cave continues to surprise and impress. His catalogue of high-quality live and studio releases with The Bad Seeds would be sufficient for most artists, but not Cave, who in recent years has added [...]

Nick Cave Pens New Film Script for John Hillcoat When Nick Cave isn't dropping new Grinderman records, scoring films, writing novels, or erecting gold statues of himself, he likes to dabble in screenwriting. Most notably, Cave wrote the fantastic John Hillcoat-directed film The Proposition and a totally insane sequel to Gladiator, in which Russell Crowe's "Maximus meddles with Roman gods in the afterlife, is reincarnated, defends early Christians, reunites with his son, and ultimately lives forever – leading tanks in the second world war and even mucking around in the modern-day Pentagon." [...]

I've been spending a lot of time recently combing through Pitchfork's list of the top 500 songs of the decade, but one thing that has annoyed me is that I can't find a site that actually lists all 500 songs on one page. I'm tired of having to scroll through page after page. So, I'm doing it myself. Here's the complete list, republished merely as a reference. Go to www.pitchfork.com to see the full presentation with song reviews, artwork, and audio clips. 500. The Big Pink - "Velvet" 499. N.E.R.D. - "Run to the [...]
