Since seventh grade, Guster has been one of my favorite bands. Now, it's crucial to note that my music taste has changed a lot since seventh grade. In those days, I was hooked on any band that sang a sad song (Dashboard Confessional, Fall Out Boy, Plain White T's. Ugh.) but somehow my taste led me to Guster and they're one of the few bands I still listen to and love. I've seen Guster twice before in concert, both times at Wolf Trap, a beautiful outdoor venue. Seeing them play there became one of my favorite summer rituals, [...]

Apparently Halloween Weekend means every band in the area is appearing as another band, could be entertaining or just confusing I guess we'll have to check them out to find the answer. On Thursday you can go to TTs and see the Talking Heads, Robert Palmer x 2, The Replacements and The Who. Or you could go to the Plough for the surf band The Trabants and the Middle East has King Khan & the BBQ Show and Downbeat 5. On Friday the Armory in Somerville has a spooky event with the screening of Phantom of the Opera and music [...]
Buy (Itunes) This is the first in a never-ending series of articles that will look back at some of our favorite albums. One day in high school I found myself wandering around the mall aimlessly, which is the only way I can justify stepping foot inside a Sam Goody to peruse a music store with a 75% markup and 98 Degrees thumping in the speakers. Like then, I still don't believe much in portable music. Maybe I'm just a cheapskate or I listen to music too [...]
Like New Year's Eve , Halloween is another holiday that a lot of bands choose to celebrate in style. There's just something about mixing the live concert experience with all the fun and choas of Halloween that really brings out the freaks. While most bands typically play into the Halloween vibe in some way, touring bands often approach Halloween as an opportunity to really create a unique live music event. Just as we did with our New Year's Eve concert round-up , we've compiled a list of Halloween concerts that will be going on this weekend (see below [...]
It's the buzz of the blogs: brand spankin' new Federal Trade Commission guidelines for bloggers now require full disclosure of any personal benefit received gratis . With bloggers on both sides of the fence, it's not yet clear whether that would include those gifts garnered purely as part of the review process, such as passes to shows, and promotional and review materials both digital and tangible of any value whatsoever. Like many culture vultures and blogwatchers, though I recognize the need to create some sort of oversight which would [...]
So what's happening this weekend? I think there are still tix available for Bill Maher at the Wilbur on Thursday (and they now have a liquor license so cheers!). Also on Thursday you have a chance to check out the new project the Port Charles Quintet at the Plough which sounds fun or you could go to the Brattle for the Califone show. But if these don't appeal to you, don't worry, there are many other great choices on Thursday. On Friday, the show at the Cantab looks strong with the Brooklyns, but then there's also Dennis [...]

There's a popular mashup sloshing it's way around the good ol' web right now combining the talents of indie-electronic rocker Miike Snow and rapper Drake . The Hood Internet - Cult Logic Forever (Drake vs Miike Snow) Lemme map out what was changed here. ( Miike Snows 's " Cult Logic " - Vocals) + ( Drake 's " Forever " - Music ) - Eminem = The [...]
Another great week of cool music! On Thursday there are some awesome choices: there's the legendary Al Green at the House of Blues (hopefully you took advantage of reduced tickets thru Live Nation), great indie rock at the Middle East Downstairs with The DoDos and The Ruby Suns, The Ego and the Oracle (aka Jim of Jim's Big Ego) at the Burren, the reclusive cult figure Daniel Johnston at the Paradise and more, how to choose? Friday brings Art Brut to the Middle East, Reverse to Church and the Spendid Nobodies to Toad; all are great choices. On Saturday you [...]
ROcktober continues with another great weekend. On Thursday, you could go to Precinct to check Barrence Whitfield on his second week of his October residency or go to the Alchemist in JP to see Lars Vegas (for Free!). Or maybe you want to revisit the 1980's and see Howard Jones at Scullers. On Friday, not certain if there are still tix available but I'm looking forward to seeing Black Joe Lewis at the Landsdowne Pub and then heading over to Harpers Ferry for the Upper Crust (gotta love their powdered wigs, puffy shirts and beauty marks!). If that's not your thing [...]

Our newest series takes our lucky camera crew into beautiful locales. Once we're out in the wild, we interview great musicians about the natural world and its influence upon their creativity. For our pilot episode... Wil-Dog and Raul from Ozomatli tell us about Los Angeles. Cary Brothers serenades us in Griffith Park with "Blue Eyes." And Adam Gardner from Guster takes us kayaking in [...]

Wow, it's already October. I guess time flies when you're having fun or something like that. On Friday I'm torn about the Dinosaur Jr show at the Middle East for a little Pioneer Valley rock or Jay Retard at Harpers or Jetset and Highland Moore at the Plough, too many choices. Saturday has another good night of music with Ra Ra Riot at the Paradise (I love their Rhumb Line cd but have never seen them live yet), a great local line up at TTs with Sidewalk Driver, The Motion Sick, Aloud and John Powhida's International Airport and yet another [...]

Uncanny magnetism marks Ben Kweller, a man of the people and potent old soul who's been around a while in a young man's body. All you have to do is mention his name and people light up, falling prone to effusiveness. Ben Kweller?! Everybody who's been touched by the young legend has a personal Ben account. That's his magic. Like a spiritual teacher whose physical presence impossibly appears to each seeker awash in assembled throngs, or like Willie Nelson, who's always smiling and looking directly at you (and everyone else in the crowd) when he plays, no matter [...]

This is one of those weekends that I've been looking forward to for a long time and if you have too then yay! It's here. On Thursday, there's free ice cream at Coldstone Creamery which is a good start to any weekend. Also on Thursday, there are good choices for music for exotica/tiki music there's Waitiki at Ryles, there's Moby at the House of Blues, there's Poi Dog Pondering at the Regatta Bar, there's Elizabeth and the Catapult at TTs and Three Day Threshold at Toad. The Friday show that I'm really looking forward to is a big one at [...]
Happy Autumnal Equinox! I can't believe that we are entering the fall season, how did that happen? Fortunately there are many shows to occupy our time and to keep us from thinking about the upcoming cold weather that right around the corner. On Thursday I hope you got you code to see Polyphonic Spree at the Paradise. If you didn't, there's always uke master Melvern Taylor at Toad or you can go to the Middle East to catch Hollywood starlet turned to rocker, Juliette Lewis. On Friday, there are lots of great choices and you can't go wrong with any [...]
It's been a while, I know. I'm keeping a lot more busy than I thought I would. I plan on keeping this blog, but expect the updates to be much less frequent, like they have been recently. Anyway, I wanted to post the latest in my EuroTripping series from my trip this summer, with footage from Amsterdam and Bruges. I've spent the last three weeks wrestling YouTube to get songs on there that didn't get shut down by Warner Media Group (stupid copyright rules...). Thus, I couldn't use "Amsterdam" by Guster, which sucks and I even had to [...]
