Photo by Samantha Wood After five years of gracing nearly every stage Seattle has to offer, local rock locomotive H is for Hellgate has been finally derailed by the announced departure of another member (amicably, he's off to another country). Going through one line-up change last year was tough, but two in as many years? Hard [...]
Almost doomed by money woes ("must be the economy"), the Georgetown Musicfest was able to escape death this year by teaming up with a Seattle Weekly event known as Artopia . That's a clever name. I'd never heard of it until a few months ago, but apparently they had one last year and it also takes place in South Seattle's industrious enclave. Who knew? . Anyhoo, the joint shindig goes down this Saturday the 27th (74 and partly cloudy, people) with [...]

I hate it when a band falls through the cracks. Or, more accurately, when I fail to give my proper due. So consider this my sincere apology for failing to really say much of anything about How to Kill a King , the new record from Portland's best post-instrumental rockers AristeiA. Everything about "Feedback King"—from the title-that's-so-perfect-you're -shocked-Mogwai-didn't-use-it to the songs' beautiful assault of reverberating guitars, crashing, resistant slo-mo drums and heavenly background synths—screams "EPIC." Yet the song succeeds not because of its resemblance to similar instrumental acts like Explosions in the Sky and Mono but instead [...]

Sound on the Sound has five nights of concerts in a row this week! Usually August and the weeks before Bumbershoot are slim pickings in Seattle, but not this summer. For every night we're already promised to a show, there's at least one, often two other shows that we'd also love to go to. Here's how the week is looking. Tuesday: We already told you we're heading to the Blue Moon for a special night of Acoustic Sets . Bloodhag ::: photo by [...]
