So Friday night I got to go to Hub Bub in Spartanburg, SC for the 3rd time and I have to say I love this place. Hub Bub is a non profit venue which seeks to bring art and culture to a city that has been sorely lacking it. Check them out at Hub-Bub.com I went to see Stephanie's id and Heypenny. Both bands have managed to generate a good bit of buzz, but based on the write ups and Myspace
So 2009 has been such a crazy year for The Record Machine. I love this time of year. I feel like personally I start winding down a bit and get to look back over the last year and see how far we have come and start to dream on how much father we can get next year. So first off let me talk about 2009. We released 6 records which is twice as many in a single year then any year in the past. Every one of them are amazing and I believe so much in all of them and [...]

Next Big Nashville 2009 was my crash course in Nashville music. The city is perfect for a music festival because it has a bunch of unique venues all in close proximity to each other. The NBN-provided shuttles were a great way to get around. No one had to worry about designating a driver, finding parking, missing a show, or shelling out cab money. I never had to wait long for a shuttle. Over 140 bands, many of them from Nashville - I didn't know where to start. Being semi-new to the city, and a [...]
It should be blatantly apparent by now that Heypenny are nonstop hustlers. I must tip my hat to the energetic and fervent crew for constantly pouring everything they've got into their performanc... Continue reading "Rock 'n' Roll Homework: Heypenny Wants Your Participation" >

This song strikes me as the perfect way to enter the first days of fall and to say good-bye to summer. Enjoy. Let's take a walk across the Tennessee River / And let our feet feel the Walnut Bridge And as the wind cools down the summer / We'll watch it all fall asleep again Heypenny -- "Walnut St. Bridge" mp3 off Use These Spoons ( buy [...]
Future Sounds is proud to take part in this year's NEXT BIG NASHVILLE conference from October 7th through the 11th in Music City. We're doing 4 nights of showcases with our friends WOXY and the HOT FREAKS and having the first ever RUMBLE: NASHVILLE . What impressed us most about the NBN folks was their quest to really champion the artists in their region of the US and their willingness to take chances on bands that are [...]

THOSE DARLINS - One of the most memorable sets we ever walked into owas Those Darlin's who were visiting Boston - a couple of years back. Ever since then we have done whatever we can to catch them wherever and whenever we can. In the hot " Red Light Love " music video we hear churning rock and go-go dancer beats entwined... And the video, depicting epic heartache and cheap love, was directed and illustrated by Jessi Darlin, herself. [ Additional credits : Teddy Gage - Animation. Some art by Nikki Darlin [...]
I've posted the MP3 for this song a month or two back, but the brand new video for Those Darlins' "Red Light Love" is so cool that it deserves a post of its own. The video was directed and illustrated by Jessi Darlin herself, with additional artwork done by Nikki Darlin and Sheriff Lin. The band has also announced a slew of new live dates that will keep them on the road through a Halloween show in Houston with none other than The Meat Puppets . Not exactly [...]

If you caught this Monday's show (I'll be posting the playlist later today with some mp3s), you already know about the fantastic event going on over at the Mercy Lounge tonight, which I fully expect all of you to attend. Me and My Arrow is both a tribute and a benefit show - a crazy number of fantastic musicians coming together to celebrate the music of Harry Nilsson , all to benefit Terry Price (from Nashville's own Oblio ), who was recently diagnosed with Bell's Palsy and hit with some serious medical bills (if you didn't [...]
Just how did Heypenny win over audience and judges alike in order to punch their ticket to Bonnaroo? Well, they've finished editing together some video that shows you just how they did such a thing.... Continue reading "Heypenny on the Road to Bonnaroo" >
