As promised in my last post about the Manics show in Toronto, one of this week's mixes will be Manics-themed. It couldn't just be a bunch of Manics album tracks, nor even a bunch of b-sides (frankly, I do enough of those in other mixes and posts, and that would all be too easy). Since they are one of the most dynamic live bands in the world, this mix is comprised of tracks from various bootlegs of Manics gigs. I have nowhere near the amount of bootlegs other Manics fans have, but I delved into what I did have and [...]

The live music highlight of last week was seeing Ross Flournoy at the Little Room at Largo. That's a great little spot to see music. With the future of the Broken West in doubt, it was great to see him perform a couple of new songs along with some Broken West classics. Monday 9/28/09 [Pick of the Night] Leslie and the Badgers / Sian Alice Group / Best Coast / Paperplanes @ The Echo (Free) – Night three of their Monday night residency. [Recommended] [...]
Photos by Kimberly Dawson Rusko absolutely owned the Nocturnal Festival on it's 15th Anniversary. We were fortunate enough to get a few minutes to chat with Rusko before he hopped on stage for his set. Honestly his set on this night was something I will never forget. Dub step's popularity in the USA is growing like wildfire right now and I can't even explain to you what the shows are like if you have never seen one. The best I can do is show you these videos we got. [...]

I'm back from a PERFECT Honeymoon! Although it was a little over a year late it was just as amazing as if we had gone right after the wedding. Let me tell you, people always tell you Jamaica is really dangerous and that's a BUNCH of bullshit. I mean I suppose if you need to score crack at 3am in Kingston you might get robbed but otherwise it's a really a country full of really kind and caring people... Anyway... I have SO much music in my inbox... I can't attempt to post them [...]

So what do you want me to say? Jeffrey Lewis & The Junkyard have a recent album out titled 'Em Are I , stimulating for both plebeian and patrician alike. You won't find that kind of parity anywhere in the real world. Finally, Jeffrey and the band will be teaming up with Akron/Family, with a confirmed run of dates with Dr. Dog in October. audio: Roll Bus Roll dates: Sept 10 - Talking Head, Baltimore, MD* [...]

While folks pay huge ticket prices to see overrated shmucks sing over canned music, somewhere out there a thread of artistic decency still exists. I cannot get this song or this artist out of my head. Joe Pug is a young man from Chicago, with a mop of curly hair and songwriting that injects fire and ache into my veins. Hymn #101 - Joe Pug His whole name is only six letters, pops off the tongue quickly. This 24-year-old carpenter crafts folk songs steeped in stories that stop me in my tracks, and laden with lyrics that feel weightier than your standard fare: " The [...]

More than 1,800 bands will descend (that's right -- descend, as in hordes, like locusts) on Austin, Texas, March 18-22 for the annual South by Southwest Festival. If you've made plans to go, it's hard not to become overwhelmed at the thought of how to figure out who to see and when. Wait. Let me rephrase that: once the tsunami of media, music and beer that is SXSW completely takes you under, only then can you submit to the task of assembling a reasonable schedule of events for yourself. You have to give in [...]
