Time for yet another episode of the 'What Have I been reading'-lists I've been keeping. I use a little booklet for this, and I'm already dreading the day that the book is full. Most of it is written in pencil, so that I could erase it, but maybe I'll just make a 900 pages long notebook myself, in which I meticulously keep listed what I've read in my life. My children, or my parents, my friends will find this list one day, thinking that I spent too much time reading and too little time living. But They don't know that [...]

A gorgeous slice of ethereal dream pop in the vein of The Innocence Mission and Mazzy Pop for a Friday afternoon, courtesy of Melbourne combo The Fakes. Bloody marvellous. (N.B. Any resemblance to a Del Amitri song title is purely coincidental.) The Fakes - Always The Last To Know mp3 The Fakes on MySpace Buy The Fakes downloads at Klicktrack
![Total Babe: Heatwave EP [Album Review]](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2085147_lg.jpg)
Such a confounding name, Total Babe ; after all, the band is all-out indie pop. Then again, when you were a teenager, a name like Total Babe would have been perfect for your acoustic-garage-pop. But it's highly unlikely your pop songs would have been as... well, freaking amazing as Total Babe's. Heatwave is packed with pop greatness. With airy female vocals, hefty acoustic guitar strums, and a few complex melodies, these songs are both honest and endearing. "Bearbones" immediately snares the listener, but when the [...]

Below you'll find the list of everything that I want to get out of my house as soon as possible. You can Find the rules about how I am trying to do that here . I know this is just a list, so over the next days (or weeks), I'll try to go into further detail and provide you with mp3s and youtube links of the artist. That way, you might get to know some new stuff you like and have the album immediately there for you. You just need something that I want to trade with. [...]

Although I felt like a teenybopper by arriving at the venue an hour before doors were scheduled to open, I suspected that I wouldn't be the only one who didn't mind camping out a little for Sufjan Stevens . I'd never been to a Sufjan show before and, as gruesome as this may sound, he's been on my list of musicians to see before I die. Radiohead was once on this list. I think it'd be accurate to say that I've been waiting several years to see Sufjan Stevens. Perhaps I've encountered [...]
Buddhist monks blessing the crowd in the wee hours of the morn. For the Bon Iver preformance review jump to where is says BON IVER. So I think everyone has a little Goth in them and why not? I mean there is darkness all around in the media in our daily lives in general. Justin Vernon must have a little more than the average Cure fan. Look at his lyrics: "Only love is all maroon Lapping lakes like leery loons Leaving rope [...]

When it was announced that Bon Iver would play a sunrise set at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles I booked a flight pronto. The event ended up being one of the coolest musical experiences I've ever taken part in. We arrived to Hollywood Forever a little after midnight. Armed with sleeping bags, pillows, beers, and various food essentials to help us make it to the 6am set time. When we walked in there was a huge projection screen on the mausoleum that was the only source of light in [...]

Old days, don't come to find me The sun is just about to climb up over there While my heart is sinking I do not want my voice To go out into the air Did you leave the darkness without me? You're always miles ahead And you're standing in tomorrow on the runway Oh be the music in my head The air around my bed, oh [...]
This is my list of my all time top 10 rappers. It's not about who the hottest (Kanye, Lil Wayne) is or Who has been around for the longest (LL Cool J, KRS 1) It's about the rappers I have listened to consistently since they first came onto the scene or when I first heard about them. These are the rappers that I will keep checking for, and will probably (hopefully) never disappoint me. I have only gone for rappers that are still alive to make it easy for myself. No. 10 [...]

Hallelujah the Hills releases their sophomore album, Colonial Drones , today. Almost five years ago I fell in love with Hallelujah the Hills after hearing a couple of songs a friend sent me, then they wowed me with their debut album, Collective Psychosis Begone . Colonial Drones shows one of my favorite bands growing musically and lyrically, I simply cannot stop recommending this album. As a bonus for purchasers of the CD, the band is giving away [...]

You're probably more familiar with the Rachel Flotard (or at least her voice) than you imagine. Rachel has sung background vocals on two of Neko Case's albums ( Fox Confessor Brings The Flood and Middle Cyclone ). Neko returns the favor and appears on five tracks of Rachel's band Visqueen 's new album. Speaking of Visqueen's new album, it's entitled Message To Garcia and is currently one of the albums on heavy rotation at my place. It's impossible to not be immediately won over by Flotard's voice. Her angelic vocals are like [...]
The men slowly toured the perimeter of the house, taking notes and photographs, like archeologists mapping out a ruin. Upon opening the back door, Vasquez observed that there was just enough space to squeeze past the refrigerator blocking the exit. The air smelled of burned rubber and melted wires; a damp ash covered the ground, sticking to their boots. In the kitchen, Vasquez and Fogg discerned only smoke and heat damage—a sign that the fire had not originated there—and so they pushed deeper into the nine-hundred-and-seventy-five- square-foot building. A central corridor led past a utility room and the master bedroom, then [...]

This was a low key and extremely welcome return for my favourite Edinburgh venue, after a hiatus enforced by the Festival cider whores. There's just something nice about the Bowery, probably because it's such an unlikely space. It doesn't actually feel like a bar or a venue in the way that you might have such places in your head, it's a little more accidental than that. Ruth and Jane who run the place have an enduring fascination with all things New York, and their ongoing mission to bring everyone from that city who has ever so much as [...]
Pop Heroism, One Song at a Time
Early Lines in St. Louis, MO 2004. Any music lover can attest to the fact that one of life's great rewards is the discovery of an artist or sound that takes the wind out of you. For me, my introduction to Early Lines was more like a ceaseless series of kicks to the body. Their 2nd full-length album, 2001's Hate The Living, Love The Dead possesses an immediacy and intensity that is quite rare when compared to the modern musical landscape. The band's sounds and messages were inspired [...]

The Innocence Mission - Brotherhood of Man This song always starts playing in my head whenever I'm in an airport. I think this is because airports make my head all funny. My mind moves onto some other level, and starts thinking thoughts that usually seem too heavy for it. It's the waiting, and being surrounded by people you're not talking too, inventing their pasts and futures, wondering who is leaving a loved one, and who is returning to someone else's arms. I sit back and think about how things have changed since I last wandered [...]

Accused of being a "black-caped, black-garbed, death-worshipping church" with ranks of mindless "hooded snuffoids," they believed they were visionaries warning of the coming apocalypse. In the wake of the shootings at Columbine and with cult activity on the increase, this could have been ripped from the mainstream headlines throughout 1999. But at the end of the hippie dream, these were the charges levelled at one of the most controversial cults of the Sixties: the Process Church. In 1963, two people met at the L Ron Hubbard Institute of Scientology on Fitzroy Street, London. They were both studying [...]
Breakfast at Tiffany's hat Audrey Hepburn unsterblich gemacht.
