Watch the trailer for the new Mogwai live concert film, Burning . As mentioned in today's Daily Downloads post, Team B is giving away a free EP, titled The Lost Son . The Lincoln Journal-Star profiles Van Jensen, the cartoonist behind the graphic novel Pinocchio: Vampire Slayer . "P:VS" takes place after Carlo Collodi's original story. Geppetto's been killed by vampires, and Pinocchio, still made of wood, vows vengeance. He's got at least one big advantage. When he lies, his nose grows, leaving him with an endless supply of stakes, which he loves to jab into the hearts of his foes. The Philadelphia Inquirer profiles singer-songwriter [...]
Apparently Joe Satriani's lawsuit over the similarities between his 2004 track and Coldplay's megahit from last year "Viva La Vida" has been settled, as the suit was dismissed earlier this week . A few legal types have suggested to Billboard that money might have changed hands, which I guess will ease Satriani's sting over Coldplay not being forced to apologize for what they've done. Relive the days when lawsuits ruled these two parties' world with John P. Strohm's thoughts on the case , or embeds of the two tracks after the jump. [...]
Chris Pureka has an EP out with some studio tracks and a handful of live tracks that is Americana-tinged singer/songwriter fare. Actually quite good (as in way better than I expected it to be even though I'm not sure why I didn't think it would be good). This song is especially great. RIYL : Indigo Girls, David Gray, Iron & Wine, etc… MP3 | Chris Pureka - Wagon Wheel Chimera I just finished a 3 [...]
A Look Inside A Very Controversial Startup You paid for that mp3 and you don't want it anymore. Why not sell it? Despite a a legal quagmire that suggests that you shouldn't, startup bopaboo.com says you can and they'll help you. Still in private beta, bopaboo provides a simple marketplace to buy and sell mp3's and potentially other digital content. In a test, I was able to upload a random mp3 and have it on sale for 45 cents (a typical price) in seconds. [...]
Can someone explain to me exactly what a Ninja Gun is? I know ninjas can present problems, but is there a special sort of firearm that's been developed specifically for poppin' a cap in a ninja? I dunno, but what I do know is that the band Ninja Gun (from Valdosta, Georgia) are pretty good. They might not be entirely ferocious, but the melodies are memorable, easy and (yes) there's a hint of twang, but it ain't dirty. Tuneful vocals that are anything but gruff along with a little alt-rock guitar crunch, acoustic guitars, [...]
![The Idolawyer Weighs Musicians' Right To Protest The Use Of Their Songs By Politicians [Idolawyer]](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/1310571_lg.jpg)
There are two weeks left to go in the Presidential campaign, and that means one thing: More time for musicians to get annoyed when a politician whose views don't jibe with theirs to get annoyed about what they see as "misuse" of their songs! In anticipation of this happening at least three more times before Nov. 4, we asked our official house counsel, John P. Strohm , for his legally considered opinion on the subject. After the jump, he talks about the nitty-gritty of song licenses, and whether Dave Grohl should have even bothered coming out of retirement [...]
We here at Idolator get all of our legal knowledge from the creative products of Dick Wolf, so it's probably best for us to call in for outside help on thornier issues regarding the law. Which is why we're proud to welcome the new Idolawyer: Please say hello to John P. Strohm , who practices at Johnston, Barton, Proctor, and Rose in Birmingham, Ala. In addition to representing both bands and indie labels, Strohm played with Blake Babies, The Lemonheads, and Antenna; now, he plays music under his own name . Strohm's musings shouldn't be taken as straight-up [...]

Once again please excuse the lack of updates but I'm in the process of moving (again). I've moved more times in my "adult" life than I'd like to remember and this is probably the most difficult of them all. It's my second cross country jaunt (I'm moving back east, hello New York), but this time I have to do it all myself. I'm stressed beyond all belief and probably won't relax (I'm tense person to begin with) until all my things have arrived safely, including myself. Unfortunately I can't find any covers about packing but since I am [...]
