No real surprises to report. Beyoncé earned a bundle of Grammys. Lady Gaga delivered a rousing - and surprisingly uncontroversial - duet with Elton John . Taylor Swift also cleaned up, though her number with Stevie Nicks sounded a tad off (as did Slash's guitar solo during T-Pain's performance). Best prop goes to Best Comedy Album winner Steven Colbert , who pulled an iPad out of his jacket during his monologue. And kudos to Kings of Leon for admitting they were a tad drunk while accepting the Grammy [...]

Jason Boesel Hustler's Son Team Love Records [2010] Fire Drill Review: You definitely don't know the name but you know the resume of drummer/singer/songwriter and now guitarist Jason Boesel. For the last 15 years, he has played the skins for Rilo Kiley, Bright Eyes, The Elected, and Conor Oberst and The Mystic Valley Band. The style of Hustler's Son keeps in the Americana genre with several nods to the swaying [...]

Jason Boesel's solo debut ' Hustler's Son ' was released via CD and digital on Jan. 12th. The Huffington Post's Sal Nunziato raved in his review that ' Hustler's Son ' is a "smart and much needed fresh slice of Americana... [Boesel] delivers a very strong debut." The song " French Kissing " features Blake Mills , Nik Freitas , The Elected's Mike Bloom, and ' Hustler's Son ' co-producer Jonathan Wilson . Co-produced by Boesel himself, other special guests on ' Hustler's Son' include [...]
Some of the great shows I saw last year were part of the legendary Daytrotter Barnstormer shows - I experienced some very powerful performances in these cozy barn settings. One of the bands that really delivered some transcendent shows was Dawes. And, frankly, most everyone I've talked to who has experienced Dawes' live show says the same thing. It's like a rock and roll revival. Dawes will be back in the area delivering their sermon of multi-part harmonies and Heartbreaker guitars on Monday, February 15th [...]

Jason Boesel is most well known the drummer for such bands as Rilo Kiley , The Elected , and most recently Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band . For the first time, Boesel steps out from behind the drum kit to release his first solo album, Hustler's Son . Boesel gets help from his friends like Nik Freitas , Blake Mills of Band of Horses , and Jonathan Wilson . Hustler's Son is essentially a country record being released by an indie rock label. The album [...]

[I will let the rest of the Internets fill you in on the new albums by OK Go (recommended) and Vampire Weekend (not). Despite his admirable resume, production [...]

Sometimes it feels like a stretch in order to put together a collection of the year's best; this time around, it was difficult to cut it down to a solid 20. The video's I have selected show the full range of moodier music videos, from big-budget successes to the D.I.Y. goofs. Some were picked because they're the work of boundary breaking directors, in each case these are videos I think you'll want to watch on your computer, perhaps over and over. Technical precision matters but entrainment value matters most of all. I hope [...]

Looking for concert trends across our top live picks from this past year, the magic of the live music experience in 2009 seemed inversely proportional to the size of the venue relative to the artist playing there. Whaaa? Let's try that again: the bigger the artist crammed into the smaller the venue made for some of the most mind-blowing shows we've seen in quite some time. Was it a result of the recession? A reflection of our thrifty times? Or simply dumb luck on our part? We're not really sure, but from the world's biggest metal band [...]

Part 1: 30-26 Part 2: 25-21 Part 3: 20-16 15. Bruce Peninsula - A mountain is a mouth (Bruce Trail) Bruce Peninsula make music that's very much informed by long established musical traditions. It just so happens that the traditions that they borrow from aren't really ones that you might expect to go together, okay fair enough you might find an overlap between folk [...]
