So my original plan was to do an elaborate post on Ken Andrews & Brian Reitzell's soundtrack to the film "Shrink", but I could not for the life of me find the music to this film anywhere. Unfortunately I don't think they are planning on releasing the soundtrack, which is a travesty. If [...]

In my honest opinion Jordon Zadorozy is one of the best songwriters out there. If it were up to me there would be a million FM radios out there playing his music from coast to coast. I was introduced to his music through his bands release "August Everywhere" and from that moment I was hooked. The record is heavily influenced by the likes of XTC and the Beach Boys with that Los Angeles delivery. Anyone that knows me will tell you I put this record in my 10 collection. The record is perfect from beginning to end with no filler. [...]
I always find instrumental rock hard to describe. If Sunny Day Real Estate's Jeremy Enigk fronted Pelican , I'd say their style lends itself to the emo genre. Likewise, if the Deftones Chino Moreno lent his screaming pipes to this four piece, I'd be inclined to call them a post-metal band (or something like that). It wasn't until track 7 ("Final Breath") of Pelican's latest album, What We All Come to Need , that everything fell into place for me and I was finally able to categorize Pelican's music (at least in my own [...]

While taking a trip to Southern California to see my buddies Matt, Cahn And Nick, I was on the hunt for an album that I heard Ken Andrews had produced by a band called Blinker The Star . At the time I was a big fan of the engineering Andrews had done on his own bands release Failure's "Fantastic Planet" . So anything with his name attached I was definitely interested in hearing. Luckily one day while listening to radio in the area they played the single " Below The Sliding Doors" which also had Andrews [...]
Let's address the elephant in the room right from the get go - Mute Math is the only rock band I can think of currently that rocks the keytar. Sure, there are a bunch of new wave post-punk bands that use the guitar-shaped keyboard, but none of them sound like an amalgamation of The Police/U2/Ken Andrews the way Mute Math does. The New Orleans-based band hasn't had the benefit of massive radio play or heavy MTV exposure and yet they've built up an amazing following. A few years [...]

Its taken me a very long time to write this, too long. Lost season 5 was epic beyond all proportions. I think if I go on about it too much I will run out of superlatives for one of the, if not the best tv program of our. Season 5 managed to continue the flawless character development that is consistent throughout the show and combine it with fantastic action scenes, twists galore, a surprising amount of answers, and of course an overwhelming number of questions. The acting as usual was outstanding, particular praise should be reserved for Elizabeth Mitchell who [...]
by chuck bell It would seem that in this forum, a band that refers to themselves as Failure would most likely be a case of tragic irony. The term would certainly be appropriate for the band's attempts at mainstream success, yet it is impossible to classify them this way, due to their technical innovation and overall impact on alternative music. Failure formed in 1990, when vocalist/guitarist Ken Andrews and guitarist/bassist Greg Edwards met through classified ads in Los Angeles. After several years of playing local shows [...]
Moby is offering a sneak peak of his brand new record Wait For Me exclusively on NPR. The album is being touted as his best in nearly ten years and will be released officially on June 30th via Mute Records. The album features a series of local NYC collaborators and vocalists, and was recorded in Moby's bedroom studio over the course of a year. The record was also co-mixed by Ken Andrews , who has worked with with Throbbing Gristle, M83, and Sigur Ros, to name a few. According to the man himself, Wait For Me' [...]

Australian quartet the Drones put on one of the best SXSW sets I witnessed, and now they're coming to Spaceland on Saturday (mystifyingly, not as the headliner?) for one of the best non-Coachella shows of the weekend. The foursome's craggly, passionate rock is on full display on their new album, "Havilah," released on ATP Recordings in March. ||| Download: "The Minotaur" (And another song is available over at RCRDLBL.com ) Brooklyn's the Naked Hearts will be familiar [...]

Charlotte Martin has been a busy girl. Not only did she release her new EP Orphans at the end of last year, but she also had a kid. Surprising, then, to find her onstage at Joe's Pub in New York last Saturday. She just can't seem to stay away from the stage, her fans, the music. In actuality, her short three show stint (two in NYC, one in LA) was a test to see if the baby could handle life on the road. Good news: he flies well, cries little, and, apparently, has a fantastic [...]
It would be nice to think that the garlanding of Robert Plant and Alison Krauss's Raising Sand was an attempt by the US recording industry to try and head off any thoughts of a Led Zep resuurection. But it's even nicer to think that a bloody good record has been given prizes. If it was just Alison Krauss, though, would it have picked up so many prizes? Great news for Joe Satriani, as his song picked up Song Of The Year. Oh, or Coldplay's song. We'll see what the judge says on that one. [...]
It was still a year away from Tool's epic offering Aenima. It was a year before Failure's fantastic Fantastic Planet. During the Tool's recording process, Paul D'Amour left the band and joined Ken Andrews and Greg Edwards from Failure, along unknown keyboardist Chris Pittman (who would go on to join GNR). The foursome went on to form the first grunge cover band (unless you you count Pearl
You sense that even the Grammy organisers know that issuing press releases trumpeting that Coldplay and Lil'Wayne are leading the nominations list this year marks a rotten year for the mainstream. Good lord, they've even had to nominate Bleeding Love, a song so old it doesn't even get carded when it buys beer, to make up the numbers. Amongst the sludge, Adele and Duffy both find themselves on the list - and no disrespect to either of them, but... really? That's the best the majors can think of? It's not all bad - Robyn's in there [...]
