So the focus of this mix was just to get all the upcoming Canadian producers on one big mix. Me and my brother Liam scoured our great frozen land far and wide, under rock and tree, from the deepest depths of Lake Huron to the majestic peaks of the rocky mountains for the sickest, raddest, most cold certified producers in the great white north for one epic slapshot of a mix. After a long and arduous journey we finally assembled these 17 crazy Canuck acts who all graciously offered us both released and unreleased music just in time to pump [...]

"I know it's kind of funny, this Midwestern guy doing Brazilian songs in Spanish," says Josh Rouse about his new studio album, El Turista. "I don't know if it fits, but I like the way it feels." [ Yep Roc bio ] Josh Rouse will be putting out his new record, El Turista , on March 9th through Yep Roc. He makes a US trip this February. That includes a pair of shows at NYC's (Le) Poisson Rouge on February 4th and 5th . Christina Courtin [...]
![Straight From The Teet – Subfocus, Bloody Beetroots, Chewy Chocolate Cookies, DJ Pinto (Mashup) and Haydn Hoffman [GRAB BAG #4]](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2288672_lg.jpg)
Here we ( earmilk . com ) come across so many tracks and well – it's hard to come up with meaningful postings for every single track we get. In the interest of full disclosure and in the hopes of supporting those who have taken the time to support us – Here is your grab bag, straight from the teet. Today we had someone drop some thick and well produced tracks drop into our cloud . This name is Haydn Hoffman , and he hails from Irvine, California. I think he's got a well developed ear [...]

I've always found it funny that the children of famous people seemingly always wind up being famous themselves. It's almost as if the ability to be a celebrity is written into our genetic code and predetermined before we ever get a chance to act on our behalf. Take the case of Charlotte Gainsbourg. Born to Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin, Gainsbourg was brought up as practically royalty in France and has been treated as such since, being allowed to release three albums with varying degrees of success and appearing in more then 35 movies. She was famous before she was [...]

WANARB caught Brooklynites MEN live at Madame JoJo's, Soho last week and did a super exclusive interview with JD Samson of the band Consisting of members of the already legendary act Le Tigre , the three piece sure had White Heat's crowd fired up. Sporting a ' SEMENYA ' T-Shirt - JD Samson was "super duper psyched to play again in the UK" encouraging the audience to sing along, and the circus came when day-of-show Candy Bar recruits waved oversized cardboard cut-out hands with the mottos 'Fuck Your Friends' and 'Silence = Death' - the [...]

It's that time of the year again - for all the bloggers to compile their 'Top' lists of the year. Bloggers , critics, and film and music enthusiasts alike all love to compile lists: achingly long, bafflingly pointless and sinfully self-indulgent. We take hours - days even - putting these lists together, painstakingly jiggling them around, stroking our chins, scrapping them and starting all over again, before leaning back to look at our finished and entirely fruitless masterpiece, and sighing, only to re-shuffle it all over again. This list is just my opinion, my personal [...]

2009 is a tough year to judge. I've checked out more albums this year than any year in the past. Well over 1,000. And there have been quite a few great ones as well. When this list began, it had 110 albums. I abandoned my top 33 and 1/3 for 45, and then said "screw it" and upped the number to an even 50. These are the top notch albums of the year, all worthy of praise. Despite trouble all around, 2009 wasn't all that bad. [...]
An infrequent contributor, Kevin Foster Langston has a love-hate relationship with listmaking and damn-near everything else. He longs for the time when vampires weren't such sissies and Black Eyed Peas were merely a side dish. He also thinks Meryl Streep is fugly. 1. Dinosaur Jr., Farm (Jagjaguwar) 2. Titus Andronicus, The Airing Of Grievances (Xl Recordings) 3. Rural Alberta Advantage, Hometowns (Saddle Creek) 4. Flaming Lips, Embryonic (Warner Bros.) 5. Japandroids, Post-Nothing (Polyvinyl) 6. White Denim, [...]

Hi there, "It's been a while" seems to become my new opening line, but this time I really have an excuse. University made me write an essay about Three-phase, full-bridge diode rectifiers and … On to the more interesting stuff: Earlier this year I had the pleasure to meet some guy that happened to be a DJ through a mutual friend. After some track exchanges and telling him I wrote for this blog, he was interested to appear on it. Didn't happen for a long while though, you know me: busy, busy, busy. But now the [...]
December is almost over. Across all forms of media, the next week will be filled with cloying fits of nostalgia, hindsight-enriched wistfulness, and even some good-old-fashioned navel-gazing. Each Friday this month Swan Fungus has concluded the week with a new year-end list. Last week was The Top Negative Reader Comments, and before that was Top Ten Top Ten Lists of 2009. Next week: The Top 100 Albums of 2008. Stay tuned! I thought last year was an insane year for deaths. I mean, seriously, almost my entire top ten list died before the month of March ended. That [...]

Let me tell you a story. In 2007 some notable things happened. I attended the annual music festival SXSW (the image above is of myself and The Lovely Sparrows' Shawn Jones, taken by Abandoned Love Records/Virgin Of The Birds' Jon Rooney), I grew a mustache, and I met a beautiful girl named Andi. She was waiting for her uncle (Eno of Spoon) at the Capitol Hill Block Party. We hit it off and ditched the after-party to get a sprite (her) and coffee (me) at Denny's in Ballard (sadly no longer there) at 1:30am. I [...]
![Neon Indian: Psychic Chasms [Album Review]](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2196096_lg.jpg)
Prior to the release of debut LP Psychic Chasms , Austin's Neon Indian had already begun to garner a substantial quantity of hype from tastemakers across the globe. In first visiting Psychic Chasms , one is struck with the term ambiguous . Sure, the album and the band hint at a wider experimental electro-folk, folktronica, or whatever subgenre you wish to dub the latest slew of pleasant electronic artists that dip their toes into the arena of folk all the while foraying into eccentric bouts of experimentation. [...]
Last Gas Station loves VILLA , three guerillas from Belgium (Fredo, Thang & Seba ) who have been very active as dj & producers over the last 10 years. Lately, VILLA have been causing a commotion! Their "Diva edits" on Mindless Boogie and their great remixes on The Golden Filter's "Thunderbird" and Music Go Music's "Warm in the Shadows" set the dancefloor ablaze. Even Erol Alkan plays VILLA remixes! In view of their first dj set in Athens at the Galaxy Bar on Sunday 13th December gaves us an [...]
