So apparently the decade is ending. Have you seen this? Have you heard about this? Time Magazine says the 2000's were "the decade from hell." That's very rude of them! Shame on you, Time Magazine. I mean, the last 10 years gave us some pretty horrible things that were just the pits (9/11, Hurricane Katrina, Lady Gaga) but hey, I liked this decade a lot! I've really only been alive for two whole decades and just a smidge of a third, so the Naughty Aughties were definitely the best out of all the decades. I am very qualified [...]

Modified Arts , an all-ages venue in downtown Phoenix that has been a staple of the local music scene and a vital venue for touring indie bands for nearly 11 years, will change direction and transform into a space focused mostly on art. (Read more here and here .) As such, I am collecting thoughts and memories from the musicians who played there and the fans who attended its many shows. This is less an obituary and more a celebration of a less-than-perfect but charming venue that, as we know it now, will [...]
A little over a month ago I was asked to participate in an Albums Of The Decade Blog Tour , where 10 bloggers will choose their favorite albums of the decade. I'm kicking off week number two, but please head on over to our main page to check out the entire schedule. Last Friday featured a list from Clicky Clicky Music and tomorrow's will be provided by Dryve Tyme . So far it seems that everyone has kept it to ten albums, however I feel the need to change things up. [...]

But the "End of Summer West Coast Tour" isn't all the band is gearing up for, they'll also be hitting the road for a fall tour with Hanson. The band, from Long Beach, California, is going back to their roots, touring the entire west coast, including their own stomping grounds. with Fun, Limbeck, and My Favorite Highway. Hellogoodbye is also getting ready for the fall "Use Your Sole Tour" with Hanson, Steel Train, and Sherwood. But why all the touring? The followup to their hugely successful [...]

It figures that the night Source Victoria unveils a new lineup – well, drummer Scott Hessel ( Let Go , Gloritone ) and bassist Justin Entsminger ( Limbeck ) are new – I'm going to be out of town. But I have a good excuse: We're going to Los Angeles to see Elbow at the Wiltern. My brother can't be too mad at me. In any event, Source Victoria is one of two openers for Starlight Mints at Rhythm Room on Wednesday night. ( JP Inc. is the other.) Tickets are $12 [...]

Some bands can boast a good lead vocal that can carry even the most mundane songs into memory. And then there is Good Old War. Keith Goodwin, Tim Arnold (Days Away) and Dan Schwartz carry a three part harmony better than the Pernice Brothers ever did. The vocal harmonies here are stunning. This came out last year, but it's one of those albums that will hook you immediately. It skirts the edges of folk-country and pop, with strong melodies and magical chord changes throughout. Starting out with the Paul Simonesque "Coney Island" all the way to the gospel-tinged "Stay By [...]

I spent the last trying my hardest to come up with a funny introdution/explanation of why my Californian mixtape would be better than TSURURADIO's Canadian mixtape but I really don't need to. Sure, Canada's been the birth place to hundreds of amazingly nice bands but do you know what? Nice is the feeling you get when you catch up with a family member you haven't seen for a year or two. To begin with it's enjoyable but after a while it soon get's boring. I'm fully aware that MR TSURURADIO will claim that California is a dump [...]

Mike Herrera from MxPx has a new Country band going and they are called Mike Herrera's Tumbledown. He's taken some time out to give you some great recommendations for the week. 1. Neutral Boy -Weapons of Mass Seduction-if you like your punk rock dirty and beer soaked, this is the band for you. Find them in Washington State to Kansas City and anywhere in between. 2. Watashi Wa -Eager Seas-this band is now called Lakes but they have a ton of traditional instrumentation and great songs. Find them in Southern CA. 3. [...]

Washington D.C.-based pop-rock quartet My Favorite Highway is just starting out, but the boys aren't afraid to pile their plates high. First it was a tour with Danger Radio and Stereo Skyline . Then, a performance at Bamboozle. We thought their upcoming tours planned with Ace Enders and The Cab through August 9 would be the cherries on the top of a tour-filled summer, but My Favorite Highway isn't stopping just yet. The band has announced that they will be joining Hellogoodbye on their "End of Summer" tour alongside [...]

Ohio's the second state on our list I've lived in, and despite all of the non-love places like Cleveland are getting lately , I've got a lot of fond feelings for the Buckeye State. It became the 17th state admitted into the Union on March 1st, 1803, and has lived a long and rich history since then. It was the first state to use a traffic light (in Cleveland), to use police cars (in Akron), and to have a professional city fire department (in Cincinnati). It was also the birthplace of the hot-dog. Ohio's home to the [...]

Cover Me puts together a list of Police covers, but there are only two that I could stand: John Butler Trio - Message in a Bottle Mika vs. Armand Van Helden - Can't Stand Losing You Uncle Earl - Canary in a Coalmine Limbeck - So Lonely David Lamotte - Walking In Your Footsteps Rabbit Junk - Walking On the Moon Artgeko - The Bed's Too [...]
When The Police reunited in 2007, I was thrilled. I'd loved their two-disc live set ever since "borrowing it" from a friend in high school. To that I'd added their Greatest Hits , and that was basically all I needed. Though ticket prices were outrageous for that reunion tour, I managed to catch 'em at Bonnaroo ( read my review ) and loved every minute of it. Only having the greatest hits and the live set, I knew all the songs but two. They did leave out a couple classics – where [...]
