We're coming at you BIG for this Monday Mixtape session, no hiding out in the VIP section or in the Basement this is strictly main room madness. Still that's not to say we're munching on cheese sandwiches, there's more than a fair flood of filth in each mix and what really shines through is the marriage, or at least firm f**k buddying, of Dubstep and Hip-hop that is getting more and more incestuous by the minute. It's also good to see Stagga cropping up in each of these. We kick off with two [...]

As the names keep piling up for South by Southwest 2009 ( Decemberists at Stubbs ! Grizzy Bear! Devo!!), a more subtle development has caught our attention that - while less impressive than this year's roster of names - will no doubt prove far more useful to those intrepid souls heading down to Austin next month. Similar to the customizable schedule-maker that CMJ unveiled for last year's Music Marathon, mySXSW.com is a new platform unveiled on the SXSW site earlier this week that allows users to manage their own personal itineraries throughout the four-day event. [...]

SXSW has updated their band list yet again... These seem like the fastest updates they've done in a long time, right? Notables include Grizzly Bear, Au Revoir Simone, The Long Winters, The Raveonettes, Nashville Pussy, Langhorne Slim, THE VASELINES , more. It's always a bit overwhelming to digest the list and SXSW doesn't point out the new additions... Keep reading for the full list. Sure these list are all over but I thought we would do one in our style. Here some music and just random Top 10 lists of things from 2008 from TRM friends and Family. A few album lists: Both Mike and I (Nathan) had a great year releasing our 3 of our favorite records from 2008. We felt like all of our bands worked extremely hard and made fantastic records. So for both of us our list have the same number one. 1. State Bird - Mostly Ghostly & 4 New Songs/ [...]

While most music bloggers finished their best of 2008 list by the Hype Machine mandated deadline of December 15, I still haven't figured mine out. So much good music, so little time! Plus I am still on the road traveling for the holidays and I don't have time to blog. Here is my best of 2007 list that I post on Last.FM and MySpace, before I founded My Aimz is True. And, in retrospect, I still think this list is prety accurrate. Although I may bump Two Cow Garage [...]

The secret is (well, not that secret) to a happy home is to fill it with love and beauty and then enjoy it to the full extent. I feel our new home is like that, so my beautiful partner and I were happy to share it on Saturday night with good friends. Good people made for great company. Plus, there was good music. Well, I think there was because I devised the playlists. So, being the music nerd I am I decided to share my playlists with you. Plus, I was fairly inebriated by night's end, so I [...]

So, we are getting tired of all this new music, and starting to listen to some old stuff again. But that doesn't stop me from guiding you through my 50 best records of this year. The sequel, starting with number 40 40. Turner Cody - First Light ( B.Y Records ) Sounds Like: Born too late, but okay, we can still sing along with your (anti)folk songs; Benji Cossa [...]
OK, here's my list of the top 50 songs of 2008. As I look down this list I'm pretty impressed with the songs, but, let's face it, 2008 was only asi-asi. JT's list will be up shortly. 1. Fleet Foxes – Blue Ridge Mountains 2. Centromatic - Twenty Four 3. Wolf Parade - Kissing the Beehive 4. MGMT - Electric Feel 5. Glasvegas – Daddy's Gone 6. Man Man - Poor Jackie 7. Bon Iver – Lump Sum 8. Windmill - Tokyo Moon 9. Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson – My Good Luck 10. The Walkmen [...]

Here are The Wheel's Still In Spin 's suggested new releases. Anathallo – Canopy Glow | CD or MP3 Download "The River" (mp3) This 7-piece band has made lush, indie pop album. Horns, strings, pianos, synths, and guitars are layered atop of the tender yet stirring drumming. Amongst all these musical layers, the vocal harmonies are captivating. Magically, somehow, this album seems to [...]
This is the first time I've made a mix tape without having a particular theme in mind. This means I had about 5253765742 songs that I wanted to include, but I eventually whittled it down to this. Enjoy! 1. Menomena - Wet and Rusting This band are amazing. Their piano lines and manic drums are face melting. Friend and Foe was one of my favourite albums of last year. 2. Hymie's Basement - 21st Century Pop Song I'm a massive [...]

Between the panels and shows making up the itinerary of the first three-plus days of the 2008 CMJ Music Marathon , our own Matt Friedman hasn't had many chances to catch his breath. Thankfully, he found one big enough to collect his thoughts and offer up part one of his week of experiences, in a piece we call, "A CMJ Memoir"... Conflict of Interest (The Syn) On the eve of CMJ 2008, the Syndicate hosted the mother of parties at Rebel. The venue is the perfect [...]
