Nothing. I have nothing to say. At all. Hence the lack of blog-tivity lately. But I did take a really nice, relaxing late Autumn walk last night and had three marvelous songs pop up via the shuffle mode. And since this space was going unused, i figured I'd fill it with those songs. * Mike Doughty - 'Pleasure On Credit' MP3 * My Morning Jacket - 'Phone Went West' MP3 * Cloud [...]
The latest release from Brooklyn-based former Soul Coughing frontman Mike Doughty , Sad Man Happy Man , finds him relaxed and matured...

"Join hosts Nick and Helen Forster at this 2-plus hour special recording of the nationally syndicated radio variety show "eTown." This "more-than-a-concert" experience will feature live performances PLUS up close and personal conversations with musical guests Tori Amos and Jesse Winchester as well as the presentation of this week's prestigious E-Chievement Award®." That describes what's going on at The Grand Ballroom at Manhattan Center on December 7th. Tickets are on sale. Lady Gaga has added two more shows at Radio [...]
Mike Doughty is one of the greatest summertime singer/songwriters, which makes his latest release seem a tad inappropriate. If only we'd had this album four months ago, we could enjoyed it with a beach bonfire. Even though Sad Man Happy Man comes late for summer bacchanalia, it has a gritty realness to it, which enables an autumn audience to feel comfortable around the warm glow of Doughty's guitar. If you're unfamiliar with Doughty, he is the former pipes behind '90s outfit Soul Coughing. In his solo music, Doughty's acoustic guitar and soulful lyrics are given [...]

Adding to the usual debauchery of Halloween weekend is the FEST in Gainesville, Florida. For three days (October 30 through November 1) avid music fans permeate Gator town. With over 300 bands playing in a dozen venues throughout the city, paired with impromptu and house shows, the FEST is like a punk enthusiast's scavenger hunt to awesomeness. The FEST is filled with ink, beards, and the Pabst Blue Ribbon that pours out of sweaty fans' pores, as they fist pump and crowd surf. Outside of the music related fare, there is Friday's FEST-organized pool party at [...]

Recommended Show: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2009 WIZARDRY @ UNION POOL 484 Union Ave Brooklyn, NY 11211 FREE, 9PM There are a whole bunch of parties tonight where the location is secret (thanks, VICE), but there are some shows that are just plain weird. For instance, Deer Tick will be performing as The Sex Pistols at Brooklyn Bowl. But there's one band for whom dressing up is an everyday occurrence. Halloween is simply another day for the band Wizardry , and that may just be the reason I recommend seeing them on a night like tonight. [...]
The Village Voice interviews singer-songwriter Mike Doughty . About Twitter--you've said that writing in that 140-character format has changed your writing process. How would you compare writing Tweets to lyric writing? I just dig having those constraints--I'm all about parameters. When I work, I try and set up parameters to work within just as a game to play with myself. A friend of mine says that Twitter is the CB radio of our time, and I totally agree. I don't know if it's gonna survive, because most people aren't [...]

Apparently Halloween Weekend means every band in the area is appearing as another band, could be entertaining or just confusing I guess we'll have to check them out to find the answer. On Thursday you can go to TTs and see the Talking Heads, Robert Palmer x 2, The Replacements and The Who. Or you could go to the Plough for the surf band The Trabants and the Middle East has King Khan & the BBQ Show and Downbeat 5. On Friday the Armory in Somerville has a spooky event with the screening of Phantom of the Opera and music [...]
"I get more and more afraid that a Soul Coughing reunion is going to be forced upon me at knifepoint. I don't need money that bad. I swear to God." Mike Doughty's got some staying power. The si... Like New Year's Eve , Halloween is another holiday that a lot of bands choose to celebrate in style. There's just something about mixing the live concert experience with all the fun and choas of Halloween that really brings out the freaks. While most bands typically play into the Halloween vibe in some way, touring bands often approach Halloween as an opportunity to really create a unique live music event. Just as we did with our New Year's Eve concert round-up , we've compiled a list of Halloween concerts that will be going on this weekend (see below [...]
