![People Eating People: All The Hospitals [Track]](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2101407_lg.jpg)
Here's a name we (or, at least, I) haven't heard in a while: Nouela Johnston. The former front-woman of Mon Frere gives us her self-titled solo debut under the moniker People Eating People this week and it includes the joyous pop romp "All The Hospitals". The track finds People Eating People dishing out precocious percussion, hints of bouncy jazz piano, and vocals slightly reminiscent of something between Regina Spektor, and... err... a better version Regina Spektor. And yeah, there's probably hints of Annie Clark (St. Vincent) in there as well; after all Clark is known [...]

People Eating People is the solo project of Nouela Johnston(formerly of the band Mon Frere). It's hard to listen to this self-titled debut record and not immediately think of artists like Regina Spektor and Tori Amos - you know, other talented girls who rock the piano. Not that is a bad thing, I am just thinking out loud here. This is an album that is definitely worthy of standing on it's own two legs though. Excellent, intelligent, and at times darkly humorous songwriting abounds. And her voice has a more soulful tinge to it I think. Enough [...]

Meet Nouela Johnston: a new female voice in contemporary music. People Eating People's eponymous release, the solo project of Nouela Johnston (formerly of Mon Frere), is being touted as a record resembling the early work of Tori Amos and Regina Spektor. Granted, such comparisons are often employed by marketing gurus to package albums, and as such, they tend to be a little uninformed. Certainly Nouela's songs are anchored by righteous piano playing like Amos, and her voice possesses the jittery, stop-start qualities of Spektor. However,...

And lo, the flock of hipsters descended upon their annual roost on Chicago's near west side, drooling over a weekend of music deemed just weird enough to be cool (or just cool enough to be weird?). Getting off the Green Line at Ashland this one weekend of the year is like becoming part of a living blob of flannel and tight denim, chattering and adjusting eyeglasses. Yes, it's that time of the year again. The Pitchfork Music Festival returned to Union Park once again, but this time it had even more hype than it ever has. [...]
This video by Seventeen Magazine subscribers Bad Flirt for the song Hiroshima, Mon Frere came out either last year or a month ago, depending on the source. With its sunflower and sepia tinges, and fish eye camera lens it looks like it was a dream Dave Pirner might have had once, back in the 90s. Bad Flirt 's sound is a little dated but it's a sound my ears have strangely missed. Their album Virgin Talk is [...]
MUSIC NEWS - The Montreal-based, Bad Flirt had been a simple touring solo project for singer/songwriter Jasamine White Gluz . She appeared on the Montreal scene in back in 2002, when it was a small but vibrant community. This was during the same time that yielded the scene's indie pop artists, Arcade Fire , The Unicorns and Stars. By 2005, Bad Flirt had expanded into a full group wuth the enlistment of musicians Jas had met in her travels. As a result, there were two releases: the EP [...]
