I've figured out part of my current problem and come to the conclusion that one reason I'm not able to listen to much new music these days (and hence am not writing much about it) is because my iPod is way too small. I only have a Nano, which barely holds 400 songs, and so I'm constantly listening to the same stuff over and over. I feel like my musical field of vision is getting progressively narrower and I don't like it. Now, it's not that I don't put new music on it [...]

What's in a name? Well, when a bands unusual name delays their incredibly forceful sound from coming through my speakers then it may be an issue. It's true that the Cleveland duo Mr. Gnome has rather lame name, but once their sound is floating (or pounding) through your speakers everything else fades. Nicole Barilie has one of those voices that can hypnotize, seduce, and blow you away all in the matter of seconds. Together with drummer Sam Meister, Mr. Gnome released their sophomore album today. Heave Yer Skeleton is a blend of aggressive rock, sultry vocals, [...]
We mentioned how attention-grabbing the name of the group was a few weeks back, but we were a little unsure of how Mr. Gnome would sound live. Thankfully, the duo just released a video of them per... Continue reading "Video: Mr. Gnome, "Spain"" >
"Or should I be a lady, oh maybe, cuz I wanna have his babies." ++This Melanie Fiona video puts a new spin on the ol' woman done wrong lament. Drama! I wanna feel bad for this girl but seriously how bad can her personal predicament be when the hair is flawless? At least be sportin' some split ends, stray roots, a mustache, or something. Fiona's album, in which she samples The Zombies and Martha and the Vandellas, is getting much buzz . ++ [...]

click image to view artist in itunes Sounds like: Portishead, Blonde Redhead, Yeah Yeah Yeahs what's so good? The amount of sound produced by just two band members can be mind-blowing. When Mr. Gnome released their debut album Deliver This Creature in early 2008, I found myself oddly enraptured by their dark sound. I didn't realize at the time that there were only two members, guitarist Nicole Barille and drummer Sam Meister . All [...]

One would hardly expect the porno biz to produce something like this. A camera operator and make-up artist are more accustomed to visual appeal, after all, and music's role in porn is little more than background music providing the next worst thing to elevator music. I introduced the duo of Mr. Gnome over a year [...]

A single from their upcoming album Heave yer Skeleton to be released November 2009 Cleveland duo mr. Gnome launched a lengthy U.S. tour 1st October that will keep them on the road until late December. The trek is in support of the November release of the band's sophomore album, Heave Yer Skeleton and the vinyl release of its previous disc, Deliver This Creature . Their psychedelically syncopated sounds draw on a visceral mix of contrasting textures. Masculine and feminine, [...]
Here's your SAT-style analogy for the day: Power Trio is to 70s rock as ________ is to 00s indie rock. If you answered 'Guy/Girl Power Duo', congratulations. You win. At life . Currently leading the G/GPD charge is Cleveland's mr. Gnome . Their press kit describes them as " a soulful, feminine power and inventive, dynamic drumming, the two are suspended in a sea of drug-induced themes pouring from their simplistic set-up." I don't know what that means exactly, [...]
