Nothing. I have nothing to say. At all. Hence the lack of blog-tivity lately. But I did take a really nice, relaxing late Autumn walk last night and had three marvelous songs pop up via the shuffle mode. And since this space was going unused, i figured I'd fill it with those songs. * Mike Doughty - 'Pleasure On Credit' MP3 * My Morning Jacket - 'Phone Went West' MP3 * Cloud [...]

Image Courtesy of Fox On September 22nd, 2008, Jim James, Tom "Two-Tone Tommy" Blankenship, Patrick Hallahan, Carl Broemel, and Bo Koster of My Morning Jacket read and recorded voice-overs for American Dad , the Fox Network animated series. I was invited to sit in by the show's co-creator Mike Barker, who wrote the episode. His inspiration for writing the script came from watching the epic show MMJ played at Bonnaroo 2008, in which the band played a four-hour set in the rain, finishing at 4 AM. [...]
Benefit albums and Tom Waits both seem to really "in" these days. Recently, the legendary Preservation Hall Jazz Band decided to combine the best of both worlds and create the incredibly down-to-business titled Preservation, an Album Benefiting Preservation Hall and Its Music Outreach Program . As a recently issued press release explains (via who else? TFB ), "over the last year, more than 20 of American music's most exciting artists traveled to Preservation Hall in New Orleans to collaborate with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band on classic New Orleans repertoire." Among those 20 artists [...]

MP3: My Morning Jacket - Phone Went West #9 - My Morning Jacket - At Dawn Darla Records 2001 Matt On At Dawn: One would think that the connector album between The Tennessee Fire and It Still moves would be awkward, but in true My Morning Jacket fashion it's an ethereal twilight trip through an Ozark-like countryside—and the one that put them on the map.

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , UK The Monsters of Folk fanbase are clearly missing a trick. Every time this four-strong folk-rock outfit takes to the stage, they should be met a chrous of b-movie screaming and a mass stampede for the exits. That'll learn them for calling themselves "monsters." The supergroup -- Conor Oberst , Jim James ( My Morning Jacket ), M. Ward and Mike Mogis ( Bright Eyes ) -- were at London's Troxy venue, a recently [...]

Cory Chisel (Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons) exudes a forcefield of palpable anguish. It squeezes through his pores and squinted eyes and lassos ears and bleeding hearts through swaying seranades you'd expect to hear on a back porch next to rocking chairs and whiskey bottles, overlooking vast fields and accompanied by choruses of chirping crickets. Chisel's voice, beguilingly accurate and smooth as glove leather, slides in like a slightly frayed slip-knot, applying steady and sufficient pressure as it pulls itself with just enough friction over the highs and lows of soulful full-band arrangements, joined by Adriel Harris' delicate [...]

I could sit here and give excuses for my lack of posting but quite frankly I have been doing this for almost 4 years now and I have gotten to the point where I post when I really have something to share, it is never forced and if it is it is never posted. I appreciate the readers who keep coming back even though they may get frustrated that they do not always see something new. As I finish up the remaining part of this year I have been going through a ton of music. There is a [...]

1. I just discovered this weird blog that has lots of cool, rare music by Hendrix, ukelele Beatles coverers, and even Burt "Robin" Ward! Check it out! And drop a comment telling him I sent you. 2. Cover Me has a "songs about stalkers" post, here , with some interesting covers of The Police and U2, among others. 3. This picture is funny because the tennis balls represent my love and the cops represent all the people who are too afraid to be loved by a man with a gigantic [...]

I've always enjoyed Minus The Bear , and the band has a new recording coming out in 2010. I'm not 100% sure that this track is to be on the new album or not, but it is good nonetheless. Planet of Ice really deserved more recognition than it received in my own personal opinion. Producer Joe Chiccarelli (My Morning Jacket, White Stripes) is at the helm on this upcoming release. The band is currently on the tour with one of my favorite new bands Twin Tigers providing some opening tunes. I [...]

Akron/Family just announced an early 2010 run of the South with a band I'm fully unfamiliar with - Warpaint . Not that I'm totally versed in all things Akron/Family either, but their face-melting set at this year's Outside Lands was the first thing I saw of the weekend. I've been a fan ever since. Akron/Family 2010 Tour Dates 2/17/2010 Greensboro, NC - Artiska Cafe 2/18/2010 Athens, GA - 40 Watt Club 2/19/2010 Orlando, FL - Back Booth 2/20/2010 Tallahassee, FL - [...]
When My Morning Jacket played their legendary performance in the rain at Bonaroo last year, who knew that it would be the inspiration for an episode of American Dad ? Specifically, the 8-minute long rendition of Motley Crue's "Home Sweet Home," featuring comedian Zach Galifianakis dressed as Little Orphan Annie . In the audience for the set was American Dad co-creator Mike Barker, and he's pulled not only My Morning Jacket in for the episode this Sunday (titled, "My Morning Straightjacket"), but also Zach Galifanakis, who provides the voice of an MMJ superfan. [...]

Regular readers may recall that I first fell in love with the powerful, confessional Americana folk of Signature Sounds artist Caroline Herring after last year's Lantana , a tour de force concept album of sorts which evoked a broad set of southern women's voices struggling with their own claims to power and the lack thereof. As we wrote last month on the cusp of its release , Herring's newest album, Golden Apples of the Sun , is a stunner, too, and I'm happy to report that it's garnering the attention it deserves, [...]
