Guess this is the sort of stuff you will find under the tree this Christmas - if you have been bad. I'd rather have a gift card, you know? Anyway - here are some new efforts from Big Superstars who are still trying to get your hard-earned money this holiday season, although you need it way more than they do. Norah Jones has sold a zillion albums but she has really put out only four, and The Fall is certainly her liveliest album to date. She's kinda wanting to [...]
I listen to a lot of music. A lot of music. I can't speak for AIV or Romeosidvicious, but the list of records I'd like to review for Ninebullets is about three miles long, and that's before I've sorted through anything that's been submitted for review (AIV handles the bulk of that, so his workload is exponentially larger). Point is, sometimes a record slips through the cracks. In the interest of trying to cover a few more bases, and inspired by AIV's recent 140-character Twitter reviews, I introduce to you a new [...]
Paste interviews David Rawlings about his debut solo album, A Friend of a Friend . Paste: You cover some songs on this record—including a medley of "Method Acting" by Bright Eyes and "Cortez the Killer" by Neil Young. How did that come to be? Rawlings: A couple years ago, at the end of '07, Conor [Oberst] called me and asked me if I would come play guitar with Bright Eyes because Mike Mogis was producing a record and it was running on, and they [...]

From Pitchfork: TV, a mashed up semi-cover by the "super group" Jim Jarmusch, Bob Mould, Bradford Cox & No Age of Neil Young's "Cortez the Killer".And this vid is rather tough to figure out what's going on. But if you stick with it, this is basically some hotel room rehearsals for ATP (All Tomorrow's Parties). Fast forward to about 4:30 to cut to the chase. Thanks Kyle Ellison!More on why
From the Rock and Roll Guru, some Rock & Roll Wisdom via Neil Young: "Don't let it bring you down, it's only castles burning…"~Neil YoungThis is great advice, unless you happen to live in the castle that is burning. In that case, it's acceptable to let it bring you down for a little while. And if you forgot to get the castleowners insurance, you're screwed.More wisdom from the Rock and Roll Guru.

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , UK The Sunday night headlining gig at this summer's Glastonbury Festival by reformed Britpop godheads Blur has been declared the Best Headline Performance of 2009 at this year's UK Festival Awards. And, adding a cherry to the band's year, singer Damon Albarn (pictured) also bagged the Festival Fitty gong at the awards ceremony which was held at the O2 in London yesterday (Nov. 19). Blur's headline slot topped what many festival-goers considered to [...]
So I'm trying something different right now. I'm going to link to 10 blogposts that I think are particularly good. I'm going to ask you, my readers, to thumb-up or digg or whatever both this post and some of the ones I linked to, if you like them. Then, I'm going to ask the owners of those blogs that I link to to make their own posts, linking to me and to some posts that they like . Then ask their readers/bloggers to do the same. None of those bloggers know I [...]
I only met Mark Mulcahy once. It was on the night that Mark and Ken played the North Star with The Mountain Goats who were on tour with Bowerbirds. This is the first night that I was lucky enough to have met my friend Ken Maiuri (an amazing musician and person, bar none , as they say). This was also the night that I received the most amazing hug in the World from John Darnielle, who come to think of it: should go down in history as a man with a Gift of Hug. It was a magical night. Colorado's Monolith Festival is in trouble. Organizers of the three-year-old event, plagued the past two years by fractious Rocky Mountain weather, told fans in an e-mail "the future of the festival is very grim," and that they have "been unable to secure any options" that dig the fest out of its financial hole. Included was a plea for potential buyers/investors. [Full text of the letter after the jump.] Meanwhile, Bonnaroo announced its ninth annual event will be held June 10-13, 2010, near Manchester, Tenn. Tickets go on sale at noon Nov. 27. Meanwhile, only 148 days [...]
Thao Nguyen of Thao with the Get Down Stay Down has written a long, impassioned article for Bitch magazine on breakup songs. Titled "Break Me Off a Piece of that Breakup Song," it looks at "the perverse pleasure of musical pain" you get from wallowing in sad songs, and lists ten of Nguyen's favorites. The Virgina native-turned-San Francisco musician should know. Her newest CD, Know Better Learn Faster is one of the most memorable post-breakup albums in recent memory, with its emotionally-fraught songs like "When We Swam," "Good Bye Good [...]
No Age at ATP 2009: Part Three (Video) No Age hangs with the legendary Bob Mould in the beginning, followed by a glorious Neil Young cover led by... (Visit my blog for more!)
This being her third album in seven years, you couldn't accuse Kate Walsh of being prolific compared to many of her peers. She has, however, changed her style over time. This release is far more country rock than the jazzier pop of Tim's House , yet it still retains the beautifully constructed vulnerability of both her previous works. The fragile singer songwriter (a la Joni Mitchell) is still present but, if anything, this album builds on it with aspects of alt-country and Gram Parsons, complete with all the inherent self doubt and insecurities. [...]
This is very nice. Alex Bleeker and The Freaks' debut hits shelves next week via Underwater Peoples. In the meantime, check out this very Neil Young rendering on Mountain Man's "Animal Tracks." And don't miss the original; in fact check that out first if you haven't, either here or here. You'll thank me later. MP3: Alex [...]
For those that experienced Neil Young's 1991 Weld tour with Sonic Youth and Social Distortion, it was one of the loudest concerts of all time. While this poll isn't for loudest concert, the folks at Madison Square Garden are running a poll for "100 Best: Vote Down to the Greatest Garden Show of All Time".And Neil Young and Crazy Horse's February 1991 show is in the running.
