Wire formed in London, England in 1976, the group consisted of Watford Art College students. Collin Newman was on vocals/guitar, Bruce Gilbert on guitar, Graham Lewis on bass/vocals and Robert Gotobed on drums. Influenced by the emerging UK Punk scene at the time, Wire began playing live shows and gained the interest of Mike Thorne, who was a producer that had connections with EMI Records. Thorne, who was recording local Punk acts at The Roxy for a live compilation album, recorded Wire and included two of their songs on the compilation (titled Live At The Roxy ). Shortly after [...]
Toronto - Starting on Wednesday, local concert series Wavelength 's will be celebrating their 10th year in existence (and 500th show) with a bang. There will be five shows spanning five nights featuring a ton of good local indie talents. In the past decade, this concert series has played host to a ton of local bands, including BSS, Constantines and probably 90% of the roster on CBC Radio 3. It's a concert series I've only recently gotten into, and kinda think that I should have gone more in the past. This series of shows will also mark the end [...]
![[Recordings] Coast to Coast AM with Art Bell – 1.29.10 and 1.31.10](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2321144_lg.jpg)
Art Bell appeared on Coast to Coast twice last weekend, and I recorded as much as I could to continue with my unofficial project archiving Art's scant appearances. Most of Friday's program (with the total badass theoretical physicist Michio Kaku), save for the first hour because I was out, bro, is below in two parts, as well as most of Sunday's in one part. As a quick caveat, the audio quality on Friday's show is total garbage, and I have no idea why this time. No storms interfering with reception, radio was in working order, [...]
Today is cold. Last night was even colder. We'll be in this weather pattern for a while. Snow is probably on its way later in the week. I never balance my checkbook, and it used to drive my mother crazy. She would spend hours balancing hers to the penny. "I found the dime," she'd call and announce. "It took me all day, but I found it." I couldn't imagine a worse way to spend a minute let alone a whole day. In my checkbook, I never carry coins but always round up to the next dollar. I've been [...]

Since leaving the Drive-By Truckers to pursue a solo career, Alabaman Jason Isbell has gone from strength to strength. His debut album, Sirens of the Ditch is a fantastic alt.country record, and one of the best albums of the 00s. Follow-up Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit is just as good, and 2010 should see the release of his third album (his second with the 400 Unit). He took the time out of his heavy touring schedule to answer a few questions for yours truly. Here's what he had to say... Your [...]

It was a very organic, sad experience, but I think that's where the truth comes out. While many people have heard Britney Spears ' heartfelt ballad, "Everytime," hardly anyone has ever heard the story behind its creation from the song's co-writer herself. After learning of her involvement in an interview about Britney for the upcoming NBC series called Killer Comebacks , I got in touch with Annet Artani to discuss her time spent working with Spears on the Dream Within A Dream tour, as well as [...]

We have a clear few days to get some work done this week, before the weekend's flurry of giggery. There are some devious Austrians sneaking about Scotland this week, partly having a holiday, and partly shooting sessions for They Shoot Music. Apart from Mrs. Toad and I recording our annual anti-Valentine's day festival of hate, we will record a podcast with them while they're here, and then leave them to go off and do some stuff with Jesus H. Foxx, Meursault, Withered Hand, a trip up to Fife to see the Fence Records chaps, and then some time in Glasgow [...]
![[Interview] Kardi](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2318902_lg.jpg)
My high school basketball coach has been putting me on to new music since he was my camp counselor almost thirteen years ago. Sometimes the music is good, sometimes not so much, but generally I trust his opinions. Last week, he sent me a Mediafire link to a mixtape by someone named Kardi with one line: "This kid is my manager (for his team). You have to listen to I Hate Prep School." I was a bit dubious at first, but after listening to Kardiology back to front a few times, I was [...]

TGIS!** I love Saturdays! (**please note that this post was supposed to go up yesterday, but you know how it goes...Sunday Morning Fever??) It very well could be the best day of the week (most definitely) and that is that, there is no back talk from any of you. Ya here me...the best day. I find Saturday great as you get to sleep in and stay up late in the same day with little repercussions due to standard work schedules. I do apologize to those of [...]

It's been a little while since we've talked about Passion Pit, so it's probably time to check in with those Boston boys. They've been busy little worker bees since their debut LP Manners dropped last summer, turning their attention toward some name-building remixes for the likes of Max Tundra, OK Go, and Phoenix. Most recently, they touched up Lady Gaga and Beyonce's "Telephone" as an official remix. Wouldn't have predicted that one a year ago! BUT, I don't really like that remix, so I'm not going to post it here. We have standards, sometimes, sort of. Besides, Crookers [...]

I fell and I fell hard for the psychedelic, stoner, grunge, pop hybrid that came from Austin rockers, Oak is Keeping, and their debut album, Animal Style . So it was without a moment's hesitation that we invited singer, Shay Isdale, to pop on down to the Ripple office, take a seat on the trusty red leather interview couch talk about what makes this Oak grow. When I was a kid, growing up in a house with Cat Stevens, Neil Diamond, and Simon and Garfunkle, the first time I ever heard Kiss's [...]

THAT'S NOT MY NAME So where to start ? I lay back and pondered exactly what it was that JC expected of me in this first Sunday column. I shut my eyes and wondered…… Was there any point digging out some old Scottish records, when JC does that so much better every other day. Perhaps I could reminisce about the Goth Wars – the abuse, physical and verbal, that we took in the 80s and all because we dared to back comb our long dark spiky hair, add some eye [...]

All You Need is Love this month. That and your mortgage payment of course. Happy Saturday everyone. Today's post is about an English band called The House of Love. Their heyday was between 1986 and 1993, but apparently they reformed the last couple of years and are making another go of it. Good for them. I don't know how many bands in history named their first two records the same thing (I'm going to overlook the eccentric brilliance of Peter Gabriel for purposes of this discussion), but The House of Love had two records, on different labels with different songs, called The House of Love right out of the [...]

Prince Klassen is one of Austin's best kept secrets (despite being from San Antonio) and its time to celebrate his ability to keep things fresh for 27 years. Fantastic Romantic will be taking place Saturday, February 6th at The Parish. Join Knuckle Rumbler, Scion, and Sneak Attack Austin in lighting up the dance floor while listening to jams taken from the lifespan of the DJ that spins your favorite DJs' parties. You may know Klassen from being at Nasty's every Monday with DJ Mel and Beauty Bar every Friday with drunk hipsters but very few of you probably [...]

What are you doing peeking over here on this silly site?! Get over to WOXY.com and hear The Waiting Room because there's a ton of great music including TWO lovely songs from Chicago folk who you should know or get to know. It's not every day that a radio show, blasted out from Austin, TX, to the entire world wide web, coming from the teensy corners of far away Cardiff, Wales, contains so much Chicago talent, ya know! (Did you follow that? Cardiff, Wales >>> Austin, TX >>> the WHOLE WORLD!) .... yeah I've no idea what that [...]
Jemina Pearl It's Superbowl weekend, but there are still a bunch of awesome shows happening this weekend! But before we get to the shows, a reminder that Loud Loop Radio will be back on the air tomorrow, Saturday, February 6, at 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Radio DePaul . Lets get to it, shall we? HIDEOUT'S INTERVIEW SHOW The Hideout's Interview Show, hosted by Mark Bazar, turns two this Saturday. They [...]

Alright y'all, I'm back writing for Radio Exile and I'm back inventing new columns that I will likely never follow up on. I want to introduce you all to a band that I'm obsessed with. It's name is Oberhofer and it's the brainchild/bedroom recordings of one Brad Oberhofer, a teenager from Tacoma, WA who is currently living in New York. I met Brad through work, where he gave me a CD-R with his demo tape. Since I started to work in the music industry, I've had a lot of people give me, or try to [...]
