To celebrate its seventh birthday, Paper Bag Records has combined two of our favorite things in music: covers and free stuff. The Seven Year Itch, as Stereogum reports, is a new compilation of cover songs performed by twelve of label's artists, and can be obtained right this very second for free. Just click here . Launched in 2002, Paper Bag Records has emerged as one of he premier indie labels, and for good reason. In its first year, the label released the critically acclaimed You Forgot It In People [...]

It may not be as monumental as celebrating the 20th anniversaries of labels like Matador, Merge, Warped, and Slumberland this year, but Paper Bag Records have made a nice gesture to celebrate their 7th Anniversary with a compilation featuring their bands covering a wide range of artists. Paper Bag have really done a splendid job over the last 7-years, cultivating a roster that really can't be held to one type of aesthetic or another. Bands like Sally Shapiro, Rock Plaza Central, CFCF, Little Girls, and more have all had a hand in shaping the current landscape of independent music and [...]
Toronto's very own Paper Bag Records are celebrating their 7th anniversary, and what better way to celebrate an anniversary (or anything really) than with a covers record. The Seven Year Itch sees great Paper Bag artists like Winter Gloves and Rock Plaza Central cover a scope of songs ranging from Beck to Bob Dyland to Eddy Grant. Download your FREE copy right here. Two of the best shows MOKB Presents has ever hosted have involved Paper Bag Records bands. Woodhands , of course, brings the crowd and the party every time we bring them back to Indianapolis, but the most criminally underattended show we've ever hosted was for The Acorn . Of course all this was before Kanye West proclaimed their greatness on his blog . Paper Bag is now releasing a [...]

If I've said it once, I'll say it again - Rock Plaza Central is a pretty awesome band. Their last two albums, "Are We Not Horses?" and "At the Moment of Our Most Needing" are both nothing short of excellent, and if you've not yet heard them, well I just don't know what you're waiting for. Back in September, RPC's principal songwriter/novelist Chris Eaton was kind enough to do a lengthy interview with me while the band was out on a short fall tour. Well, Rock Plaza Central is on a bit of a break right now, as [...]
Earlier this year, with ...at the Moment of Our Most Needing , Rock Plaza Central proved they can make folk-touched pop that is as affecting and subtle intricate as anybody. Part of that power comes from their ability to surprise us, which they do all over this cover of Dylan's "I Want You." What makes it so surprising? Well, mostly that Chris Eaton's hard-edged, deep-the-throat voice might be the least likely candidate to take on Dylan's nasal bleat. But that ill fit may be what makes this song work so well. Banjo and [...]
I got an email from Chris Eaton from Rock Plaza Central the other day. He's on vacation and writing emails to his favorite bloggers. He mentioned that RPC was in the studio back in September and recorded a cover of Bob Dylan 's classic "I Want You" from Blonde on Blonde . I managed to coax the MP3 out of him. They just released ...at the moment of our most needing earlier this year, so the band isn't quite ready to record a new album yet but its great to hear them [...]
Rock Plaza Central released a stellar album earlier this year. With it, the Canadian natives proved that they are certainly no strangers to warm Americana textures. The album is an extraordinary trip through twang laden folk-rock. This summer, we got a chance to catch them on the live circuit, and were able to ask Eaton a few questions about his music, resulting in an informative interview . While Chris Eaton and co. have recently finished up a tour with The Weakerthans in support of At the Moment of our Most Needing... [...]

![Listenlisten - Hymns from Rhodesia - The Old Murksville Forest [Album Review]](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2040630_lg.jpg)
A subtle but all-powerful force has been preventing me from reviewing this record, with its pretty gold-foil stamping and baskerville-style album art/fonts. At first I felt I needed more time, as Hymns From Rhodesia (listen there ---->) is super-loooong and super-involved. Then, I lost the damn thing in my endless Pile and didn't recover it from the wreckage until just the other day. Hey, it happens; I'll thank you to give me the benefit of the doubt on this one, sir/ma'am. Besides, there's no time like the present to make up for [...]
*MP3 : Rock Plaza Central - "(Don't You Believe The Words Of) Handsome Men" Canadian indie favorites The Weakerthans and Rock Plaza Central graced Minneapolis with their presence this past Saturday, September 26 at Triple Rock Social Club. The Rock often promises good times and good tunes, but this show really seemed to pack an eclectic punch given the extreme diversity of the two bands, both of which brought an amazing vibe to this completely sold out gig. Still riding out the wave from their May album release . ..at the [...]

The Weakerthans at MHOW (09/18/09) Rock Plaza Central at MHOW (09/18/09) Photos : Matt Fricovsky I know, I know, a little late to press on this one, but hey, better than never for my Winnipeg homies. Here's a review from the Thursday night show: Rock Plaza Central had a veritable menagerie of instruments on stage, which they switched between with ease - their violinist did double duty on trombone, one guy was [...]
If you've been reading this here site for long enough (close to 2 years or so), then you may be aware of a segment that I call "20 Minutes". The basic idea behind it is that I sit down for an in-depth, 20 minute interview with an artist or band. It's a thing I'd hoped to do a whole bunch when I started it back in 2007, but thanks to my own personal schedule challenges mixed with open windows in an artists' schedule or sometimes just a general unwillingness to actually sit down and talk for that amount of time, [...]

Ah the fall concert season. I do love it so, and this year for me promises to be as busy as any other in recent memory. I'll be at a number of great shows over the next couple months, and promise you that I'll have reports on all of them, good and bad (hopefully all good). Kicking off my fall concert season this year was the great double bill of Rock Plaza Central and The Weakerthans playing the Bottom Lounge last Friday night. Before that show, I had the opportunity to interview Chris Eaton of Rock Plaza Central, and that [...]

Daytrotter really made my day this week by throwing up a session with Cursive . Not only do they include a song off Domestica , which is my favorite album by the group, but they included several unreleased covers that you likely can't get anywhere else...one of them is "Love Cats!" Why not go check it out. Download: Cursive - Modern Love [MP3] Also, Daytrotter ran a Rock Plaza Central post a few days back , which [...]
