Drums Play Spaceland Monday Night (and It's Free) Ray Davies put on a fantastic show on Saturday night at the Orpheum. If you get a chance to see him on this tour do not hesitate. More on that later. Another great week this week. If you're into buzz bands you might want to check out Drums tonight, The Big Pink on Wednesday, Tape Deck Mountain on Thursday, Neon Indian on Friday and The XX on Saturday. Some of those will be good, but I'm recommending a variety of [...]
Roger O'Donnell, best known for his 20 year career as keyboard player with The Cure, has entered the world of artist management. The idea of managing a band never crossed his mind until he was blown away by a band called Machetes in Toronto, Canada. Formed in 2007, the four piece is a glam/punk/rock all-girl band with influences ranging from the Stooges to David Bowie and the Stones to the Clash. "Talking to them after we first met, I found them to be passionate about life and in love with music," explains O'Donnell. They don't care about success or fame; [...]
Quite nice. Via Wired . He's also remixed Juana Molina's Vive Solo. Anyone got a copy?
Roger O'Donnell, the former Cure keyboardist who recently released his second solo record, Songs From The Silver Box, was just featured on Wired.com, where he talks about his new music, what he brought to the Cure, his love of the Moog. Here's a clip, but read the whole thing here. Artist: Roger O'Donnell Album: Songs [...]
This is it. First, today Barack Obama was inaugurated as our 44th president. And there's the biggest list of new releases – and a lot of them highly anticipated – thus far this year. There're new ones from Animal Collective , A.C. Newman , and Robert Pollard 's first (of probably many under almost as many monikers) of the year. Here are The Wheel's Still In Spin 's suggested new releases. [...]
As keyboardist who's played with the Psychedelic Furs and the Thompson Twins, and as a member of the Cure, Roger O'Donnell has spent much of his career with other people's songs. With the release of his second solo record, Songs From The Silver Box, tomorrow, Roger can finally perform his music way he wants to. [...]
Roger O'Donnell, former Cure member and keyboardist extraordinaire, is getting ready to release his second full-length, Songs From The Silver Box, almost exactly one month from today. The album features Roger on his beloved Moog Voyager, and while many of the tracks are instrumental, Roger is giving away the song "Tiny Pieces of You," which [...]
Roger O'Donnell, keyboardist extraordinaire (he was in a little band called the Cure...) has released the first song from his upcoming solo full-length, his second. Called "In Your Hands Now," the track is a collaboration between Roger (who wrote everything, note by note, on his Moog Voyager) and Australian singer Lenka. DOWNLOAD "In Your Hands [...]
Sorry for the delay in posting some new material. I'll admit it, I've had a block and so I spent the time compiling a humungoid mailing list from the seven years of emails that I have saved. I've only gotten as far as the 'Js' so there's a lot more to do. However, what's the point in having a mailing list for yer blog when there's nothing new written? So true! To that end let me tell ya about a new rekkid that crossed my path. It's called the Control EP by an artist named Ecce. It's [...]

To call Roger O'Donnell's second solo full-length, Songs From The Silver Box, an electronic album would be to thoroughly disregard the very organic, very human activity that went into each note played on his Moog Voyager, the sole instrument behind the record. But to call it pop instead would be to ignore the experimental, sometimes [...]
